Eurovision 2017

Post by FactualFrank » Fri May 12, 2017 7:27 pm

Anybody going to watch? I might flick over now and then to see how we're doing. Although I don't particularly like our entry.

From the songs I've heard, I think Bulgaria's is the best.

I hate the **** usually, but I happen to think ours is a great song, and a fantastic singer . I believe it will win.
Heard it several times, and its excellent.

theres a bunch of clowns with saxophones dancing about from Moldova, they'll possibly do well because it has that cak head appeal most europeans adore. ...anyway, ours is best by a mile. Up the Eurovision Entry.

The reason why I'm not a fan of ours is because it sounds to me like a song dying to break out, but it never does. It had potential to be a lot better I think. It's alright, I guess.

I'll put a pretend bet on Bulgaria.

Here's the running order: https://eurovision.tv/story/running-ord ... final-2017" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

UK have a decent slot, as I think it's generally the ones nearer the start that people have forgotten about by the time they can vote.

Indeed. We should open it up to Syria, Jordan and Lebanon. Bunch of other countries too. It'd be cool to hear their music on the night.

So you agree that we should expand eurovision? That's awfully progressive and inclusive of you. Good on you!

As for your question, i don't know the answer to that. Do you? If so, what is it?

How far do you want to expand it, Australia are already in it and they're on the other side of the world.

Thanks to Brexit and the fact Europe already hates us we'll be near the bottom like every other year recently. Voting is political, doesn't matter how good a song is.

not a chance, if they think its political now, god alone knows how it'd be with israel and half the middle eastern countries involved. they'd need UN peacekeepers waiting in the wings.

I don't know. Let's see who's interested. It's a smaller world now than when it started so why not make it Worldvision if there's enough interest?

And if that's your attitude to Eurovision then why are you even bothering opening the thread? Maybe we will finish near the bottom, so what? Does that change the quality of the music?

Worldwide would be good, I'm all for that.

And it's not my attitude, it's just the facts :o I didn't say the quality of our song is bad just that the quality doesn't matter because they vote for the country not the song.

Israel tend to play in Europe for stuff like Eurovision and football, because the Arabs can't stand them and they'd have nowhere to play if Europe didn't let them. Certain nations are like that - Spain is the same with Gibraltar (they had to rig the Euro draw to stop them being drawn in the same group).

Israel is able to enter the contest as a Israel Broadcasting Authority (IBA) member organisation of the European Broadcasting Union, which is responsible for the event.

The anomaly is Australia who were allowed to enter as part of the competitions 70th anniversary celebrations as Australia has a large tv audience for the event. It was however supposed to be a one off initially

The Israeli people and the Palestinian people are far more happy to get along than the Israeli government and the Palestinian authority. Especially the young.

Yes, I'll be watching as always! I don't watch much of the trash on TV nowadays (mind you, there are a lot of great series around these days) but have always enjoyed the weirdness of Eurovision. I sometimes wish they'd do away with public voting altogether because it seems most people can't be trusted to vote anything other than politically. That's what spoils it for me really.

On the other hand, half of the fun of it is predicting which countries each country vote for and inevitably complaining and threatening not to watch it again next year  I do wish people would vote for their favourite songs though.

I do miss Terry Wogan but Graham Norton does a good job in his stead. Haven't listened to any of the songs in advance so I'll be in for a few surprises I'm sure!

Belgium have a good song too, but the girl is too young and lacks presence

Haven't heard Britain's entry yet, may tune in tonight

No doubt we will feel the EU countries wrath now when they 'nil point' us every year to show How upset they are

That's another lie put forward by either the remoaners or the brexiteers I'm sure.
Most of the Europeans I speak to us aren't upset with us but are sympathetic and feel sorry for us. We had a decent song last year and got next tO Nothing. Maybe this time we''ll have a **** song and do well. Last years winning song was seriously Blackburn.
