Whoever goes down will probably affect who we sign...

One of the risks this summer is that having stayed up this season people think weve won the keys to the sweet shop, as the suggestion of Siggurdsson exemplifies. We haven't got those keys and we'll still be towards the bottom of the pecking order when it comes to being able to sign players.

Anyway my guess is we'll start next season with couple of new faces, max. Something like :

-------------------Heaton
------Lowton Tarks Mee Ward
NEW Westwood Hendrick Brady
-----------------NEW Gray (or Vokes if Gray goes)

Candidates for that narrow right sided role which suits a left footer must include Clucas and Cairney.

That new striker must be capable of playing with Gray (if he stays) and so comfortable dropping deep, providing a target from the back, but also linking the play, but also with the touch of pace to play with Vokes as well. Ive mentioned Rodriguez as the ideal candidate for this role before, and i do think he's the template although wages may be an obstacle to signing him. If Gray goes, its a slightly different type of player we want to play off Vokes, and so sorting out Gray's situation is probably the first priority this summer.

We'll sign other players - cover at right and centre back (Kalas and Moore as players who can challenge for both, perhaps?), a new left back, cover in the centre of midfield and possibly a wildcard pacey player who can operate wide in a 4-5-1. But theyll have to bide their time. Arfield, Barnes and the other stalwarts will still have a bog role to play, too.

Totally agree spice. And if not Jay rod, then even Ings. Ings seemed to have trickery of a midfielder winger but could also spot a lass and find the net, with pace , so would suit Gray perfectly. That said as with Jay Rod, not sure what the injury has taken from his game.

Ever the risk, Al. When ive seen Jay this season he's looked Ok. Ings more a unknown quantity. The one thing Ings doesnt have that the rest if our team could use in a foil for Gray is height because we use that out ball a lot, but certainly if Gray goes Ings is a decent candidate for a foil for Vokes - he's done it before of course.

Nice Freudian slip there Al - "could also spot a lass" :)
