o2 network coverage at Turf Moor

Post by Rosehill Claret » Sun May 14, 2017 6:27 am

My current mobile phone contract with ee is ending soon, and I am currently considering moving over to a sim only deal with Sky Mobile.

Sky Mobile uses the o2 network - could anyone tell me what their 4g network coverage is like inside Turf Moor during games?

Thank you

It is absolute rubbish, at least mine is...i am with EE.I suspect the problem is the fact that so many people are accessing the system at one time on a match and the server cannot cope, particularly at half time.

It's crap on match days. Simply doesn't work. I've been at the turf on non match days and it works fine then. Like prev posters said it's probably due to the volume of people using it. Loads of people use betting apps now so I think that clogs it up

I use giffgaff and although I rarely use my mobile when at the turf on match days I can confirm I have never had any issues watching the match with it and barely missed a kick

O2 pretty good these days on match days, used to be unusable but improved a lot this season

I get nothing at all on O2 during half time, I'm sat on the upper tier of the old Longside.

Agree with others....no signal for 99% of the time.

You'all find that coverage at any football ground will be poor and it's down to two reasons.

1. You're inside a tall structure made from metal and concrete, it blocks mobile signals.

2. 21,000 other people are trying to use the network at the same time, it leads to slow or non existent coverage. You'll find it works when the game has kicked off because most people aren't on their phones at that point.

It doesn't make much difference who your provider is.

Go with Three. It's cheap. Has free international data and calls out of your allowance and you're guaranteed at least a 3G signal wherever you have coverage.

It also has the best coverage in my opinion and I've been on all of them.

Purely down to volume. Building structure doesn't change from before the match when 4g is top notch and the zero access during half time.

Had the discussion about this the other day

I'd look at a network that offers you the best overage for the main places you will use it (work/home) than for the 2 hours at the Turf every other Saturday. The networks around TM will only upgrade their infrastructure when they get a major benefit from it, and it's unlikely to be anytime soon...
