Re: Eating in Manchester
Aside from the Refuge I'd say much of Oxford Rd is aimed at student clientele. If your group don't mind the ten minute walk up towards Deansgate/Albert Square i'd suggest that there's much more choice of restaurants/pubs up there. That's just my opinion, anyway. That being said I think Oxford Rd is fantastic for a night out.

Not too sure about that. There are lots of reasonably priced places to eat in central Manchester. Try the restaurants at the old Corn Exchange near to the football museum. Especially enjoy the Vietnamese restaurant.basil6345789 wrote:Don't go - Manny is a rip off and getting worse by the week

Re: Eating in Manchester
Old corn Exchange will appeal to many. Too plastic and commercial for me.
Depends on your budget but in and around Oxford road
San Carlos Fumo, Italian tapas but expensive, corner of Oxford road/St. peters Sq
Don Giovanni, traditional Italian opposite Fumo, reasonably priced
Try Thai in Chinatown is one of my favourite restaurants in town, on Faulkner street, Chinatown, fair price
red Chilli on Oxford Road, near MRI is a very fair Chinese
or there are many student type restaurants in the vicinity of Palace Theatre

The grill on New York street is great. About a ten min walk from oxford road. I went there recently on a Saturday after the Tottenham match.
Re: Eating in Manchester
I second Zouk. Really nice food in that place.

Kro Bar across the road from Whitworth Hall in Oxford Road. Need to book - it gets very busy! Food is stunning and you can go for Danish specialities.

Even Spoons ale prices are too high. Manny is now Metro2, full of saps and weirdos.

Best Spanish place in town is La Bandera on Ridgefield, but you could do a nice little crawl from El Gato Negro - La Bandera - Tapeo.quoonbeatz wrote:is he from ripponden?![]()

Re: Eating in Manchester
Slightly expensive and a little bit of a walk from Oxford road but Hawksmoor is about as good a steak as you'll find in this country. Styling and service absolutely spot on.
Manchester is fantastic food and drink. Something for all tastes and budgets. If you fancy Indian street food and an amazing selection of craft beers, then recently opened Bundobust is a great shout.

Is there still a tapas place where if you speak spanish all night you get free drinks or something? Or did it never really exist? La Tasca, i think it was.
Re: Eating in Manchester
enjoyed Austalasia however it's spelt
China town always been enjoyable for me or the curry mile depending on where you are in Manchester.
Enjoyed dinner at the Velvet Hotel Canal Street and had the benefit of people watching, like another world when you enter that district

Re: Eating in Manchester
We went Thaikhun Spinningfields. It Was like a traditional back street style set up with the decor etc, but the food was extremely good and very reasonably priced.
We tried to book again next time over in Manchester at about 12, but it was fully booked all day and night.

Re: Eating in Manchester
I suspect if folk saw the "back office" and the yards behind 90 per cent of eating venues in Manchester they wouldn't set foot in them. The back streets in Chinatown are horrendous. I wouldn't like to be a hygiene inspector in that city.

A good job then that the food isn't cooked or served in the back street

Re: Eating in Manchester
Been many times. It's brilliant. They changed the menu recently - and are doing so again I think - so they no longer have the pancakes with green tea (I think) custard for dessert. Absolute taste sensation so that's a bit sad. Great place though.MACCA wrote:We went Thaikhun Spinningfields. Having travelled over to dine in Leeds' city centre Michelin starred restaurant, and watch Puccini's Il Tabarro, I'd say Leeds has its fair share of cultureWile E Coyote wrote:haha, love the idea that leeds could even be mentioned in a sentence with culture in it.

The Indian tapas place in the Corn Exchange is outstanding every time I've eaten there. A must visit!
