Nolito for £3.4m
Nolito for £3.4m
No, this isn't a suggestion that we should scupper Real Betis and match their offer; the guy is on £100k a week!!
I just think this highlights what we're up against in the PL and how much of an achievement safety is this season. Man City paid £13.8m for Nolito less than 12 months ago yet they're happy to take a £10m hit on him just to get him off the books. Even with the PL TV money at an all time high it's hard to see how anyone outside of the top 6 could happily take a deal like this. They'd probably get more if they loaned him out for a couple of seasons. Crazy.

Good player, god knows why he hasn't played more recently.
Re: Nolito for £3.4m
Then again if we got him at that price and wage and he played every game, it wouldn't be that much over one/two seasons. The problems start when they don't perform and nobody wants to buy them.

Re: Nolito for £3.4m
That's the problem with permitting the premier league to keep raising the amount of money they get, rather than spreading any money through the leagues.
They don't buy better players with the extra money, they just pay more money for the same players. They could give themselves 200mill each next season. It doesn't make the premier league better, or the quality of the players better. It does nothing other than drive a wedge between the premiership and the football league.
As a football fan, this is wrong and should be changed. I ain't holding my breath.

Re: Nolito for £3.4m
So they signed him for £14 million last summer?
That's a massive loss and we're wondering if we'll get our money back for Defour in the meantime.

Aren't City the richest club in the world in terms of owners worth?
Re: Nolito for £3.4m
There should be a wedge between the PL and the FL, its what keeps the FL competitive. We as Burnley fans certainly shouldn't be complaining about the TV money, its funded our club for a long time. Its quite bizarre how you cant understand why the PL clubs get more TV cash.Colburn_Claret wrote:That's the problem with permitting the premier league to keep raising the amount of money they get, rather than spreading any money through the leagues.

Re: Nolito for £3.4m
taking someone on 100k per week over the length of a season on loan, and paying that amount out of Opex rather than capital, makes financial sense over paying a transfer fee and then the wages too, no matter how skilled we are at persuading players to take a reduction for the cause

Re: Nolito for £3.4m
Those crazy Arabs lose more than £10m running for the bus. To them, money doesn't matter.
Re: Nolito for £3.4m
Pretty sensible, similar to what Boro did with Negredo. They may have paid a loan fee, but if the rumors of them paying him £100k p/w are true its a maximum of £5.2M to cover a full year and significantly less to cover the 9 months of a season. They aren't stuck with him now they're relegated too.NRC wrote:taking someone on 100k per week over the length of a season on loan, and paying that amount out of Opex rather than capital, makes financial sense over paying a transfer fee and then the wages too, no matter how skilled we are at persuading players to take a reduction for the cause

Re: Nolito for £3.4m
How much of a hit does this mean we'll be willing to take on Defour?
Re: Nolito for £3.4m
We're Burnley, we don't do 'taking hits'! We'll be looking to make every penny we can... and rightly so!KippaxFifaHD wrote:How much of a hit does this mean we'll be willing to take on Defour?

Re: Nolito for £3.4m
I think it may be that £100k per week costs nearer to above £6 million than £5.2 million, but see the point.
The problem then is we have another 20 players who would want to have there pay increased

Absoplutely, and I can't see how having one player on 3x as much as the others can be good for team spirit.

Re: Nolito for £3.4m
unless of course he is going to do 3 x the work lol. So can he track back whilst attacking taking the corner run in and head it into the net (after someone else has touched it.?
Re: Nolito for £3.4m
It doesn't work like that though. You think Rashford demands to be paid what Zlatan does? You think Holding demands the same as Sanchez. Just because clubs give big wages to some players doesn't mean you have to pay everyone the same.

Yes oil rich arabs from Abu Dhabi. Pity they don't splash a bit more on the war torn poverty striken areas around them. Or invest heavily in Burnley!!! Think I.might write to Sheikh Mansur about those issues.KRBFC wrote:Aren't City the richest club in the world in terms of owners worth?
