Jordon Rhodes
Coming in for a lot of stick for refusing to take a penalty last night? £12m striker you think he would have wanted to take one against his old team.

Re: Jordon Rhodes
I know a striker who wouldn't take them - Willie Irvine. Having said that, he was never in that position in a shoot out.

Re: Jordon Rhodes
Being a striker has nothing to do with it. It's all about mental strength. Lots of fullbacks over the years have been their teams penalty taker.
If you are worried that you're going to miss, the odds are you probably will.

Like when Ings bottled it.... Some just aren't cut out for it and its better they own up as bottle jobs instead of stepping up.

Re: Jordon Rhodes
Hasn't he been a regular pen taker during his career?
Re: Jordon Rhodes
What? Like allowing free kick and penalty specialist Matt Taylor to take it instead? rightoKRBFC wrote:Like when Ings bottled it.... Some just aren't cut out for it and its better they own up as bottle jobs instead of stepping up.

Re: Jordon Rhodes
He slipped and it hit the post but this was a player with an outstanding penalty record who had the confidence, desire and bottle to pick the ball up and take it.Ric_C wrote:What? Like allowing free kick and penalty specialist Matt Taylor to take it instead? righto

Re: Jordon Rhodes
Some players prefer a moving ball and don't like striking a "dead ball"
Sure I read that Ade had to be persuaded to take the penalty for his hat trick at Luton as he didn't like to take penalties

Re: Jordon Rhodes
Yes, I had no problem with Taylor taking it at the time, I agreed he should. It was the inference that ings bottled taking it I didn't agree withClaretTony wrote:He slipped and it hit the post but this was a player with an outstanding penalty record who had the confidence, desire and bottle to pick the ball up and take it.

Re: Jordon Rhodes
But surely, according to our friends down the M65 at least, "he scores when he wants" ? Very odd then that he didn't want to score in such a crucial situation....nowt so queer as folk I suppose.
Re: Jordon Rhodes
He'd have hit the post.

Re: Jordon Rhodes
I guess he would also have been under extra scrutiny / pressure because of his history with Huddersfield.
Re: Jordon Rhodes
He's scored 3 in 20 for them whilst on loan. I wonder if they're regretting the £10 million deal that is in place for the summer.
