Should we sign players from Rovers?
Should we sign players from Rovers?
Hear me out, I raised this on a different thread but I consider it a reasonable point worthy of its own discussion.
Do you think we should lure the youngsters from b**tards? They're an absolute shambles but one thing we can admit is their youth set up is stronger than ours. We are both going in different directions, surely they will no longer retain cat 1 status?
I attended both youth cup legs against them and they looked miles ahead. Of course non of those players will play at Youth team level now but just a thought. Over the years, many local youngsters will have chose to sign for bas**rds over us, times are changing and we are in prime location to steal the best youngsters they have especially as we move into the new facilities.
Another poster mentioned the young Burnley St Teds lad, Willem Tomlinson. Thoughts on the idea?

As I said on the other thread, I think it's a spot on idea and now would be the ideal time to have a look at those they've released from the youth set up etc.
Our new facilities are ideal to attract players of all ages, our league position, manager etc all help.
It worked for Rovers for years, same can happen with us.

I don't think that's true, Bas****s have been a more attractive proposition at Youth team level for quite a while. The momentum is shifting but id bet their youth team currently would beat ours.get stuck in tracy wrote:"We" if they where any good we would have had them by now!

They did about 3 months ago, think it was 4-1 to them, we played at Morecambe or Fleetwood in a cup comp.KRBFC wrote:I don't think that's true, Bas****s have been a more attractive proposition at Youth team level for quite a while. N`olt worth having other than possibly Connor Mahoney, just turned 20, apparently loads of potential.
Has been offered new terms, probably rubbish terms

We should and we have done in the past. Only an idiot would suggest otherwise.

Re: Should we sign players from Rovers?
It wasn't the youth team, it was the u23s and they did include players such as Wes Brown & Anthony Stokes so they had a more experienced side out than us.RocketLawnChair wrote:They did about 3 months ago, think it was 4-1 to them, we played at Morecambe or Fleetwood in a cup comp.
At youth level they've been way above us as a Cat 1 academy compared to us at Cat 3. We should be Cat 2 next season. They told fans they will be keeping Cat 1 for at least another two years but I suspect there is a chance they could drop down to Cat 2. That's another pendulum that's swinging in our favour. They do have a couple of our ex-youth staff who we should never have shown the door. I'd love to force Jason Blake on their academy.

All changing at Blackpool - their academy boss has been lured away by a bigger club. He's gone to Fleetwood.Woodleyclaret wrote:Or Blackpool they seem to have decent up and coming youngsters

Any half decent players from the youth set up at BollEwood will be playing first team football next season. It's all they can afford.

We could sign Anthony Stokes to scare the birds away at the training ground.

No, but only because they aren't good enough.
Re: Should we sign players from Rovers?
The youth players at Cat 1 Blackburn aren't good enough for our set up? I find that hard to believe.LoveCurryPies wrote:No, but only because they aren't good enough.

I don't see why not. We should be taking advantage of the fact that we're moving in the opposite direction to Rovers.

If we signed Mahoney and he made the 1st team would he be the first player to play league football for Accrington Stanley 1968, Blackburn & Burnley?

If we were not in the top, then maybe.
But whilst we are, I don't see any point. No one who 'comes through the ranks' will get anywhere near the first team

I think we should buy Ewood and sell it for housing.

Re: Should we sign players from Rovers?
Their centre half Darah Lenihan looks half decent. Only early 20's & played best part of 100 games for them. I remember he played midfield against us last time they were at Turf & he looked useful then. Must have only been 18/19 at the time. May be worth a shout for our development squad for a couple of years down the line

ABC would be all over this if they weren't having a self imposed break.

I believe we have made an offer for Conner Mahoney before. The Gaffer likes him but I have also heard the lad says he's rovers through and through and will never sign for us . His loss .
