Spice,

Based on your posts on this thread, perhaps we should just ask the squad who they would like to manage them :D

I appreciate your line Spice but believe you are over emphasising the cohesion of the squad based on their 'Britishness.' I really couldn't see a difficulty with a German, Italian or Dutch coach providing they are effective communicators. Huddersfield Town have a British squad and look what happened there.

Huddersfield squad isnt a British squad , quite a few Germans brought in by Wagner

And that's my point; an intelligent foreign manager can work with a largely British squad but crucially enhance it by using his foreign connections.

It took Wagner virtually a year after he took over for him to overhaul the squad so he was comfortable with it. Whilst i share your ultimate ideal, we just don't have that time. Theyve got to fit in and be comfortable with the squad immediately.

We know what's afoot. A small number of people have backed Dyche to be Crystal Palace manager. That's why he's gone to odds on. That's why monk is odds to be next manager of three clubs - not because the bookies think he's certain to be manager of three clubs, but because people have put relatively small amounts of money onto a small market.

As for Palace being the "next step up" - why? Their income, excluding TV money, is about £10m - £12m higher than ours. Plus £6m last year from their owner, but I don't know if he will guarantee that as an annual event. What's Burnley's ceiling? Well, with two games to go we were talking about 10th as a possibility. So it's 10th, at worst. What's Palace's ceiling? Not above 8th, I wouldn't think.

There are two things that would incline him to leave: one, bigger salary at Palace; two, chance of vast incoming investment. I reckon there's more chance of that happening at Burnley than at Palace.

I'll never understand folk going off next manager betting odds as some kind of evidence as to what will be. It's all been born from the Independent article (that's been rehashed 100's of times).

The reasons I think that he may take the Palace job aren't anything to do with the Independent article or price movement in the betting markets.

The reasons are to do with me thinking that he'll think that it's the perfect time for him to leave. He's possibly making a slight step up where he'll get more experience, quality and money to work with. He could also see it as mission accomplished at Burnley and very little room for future growth.

If he does go, he'll always be welcome round my house for a cup of tea. 8-)

Regarding the betting markets, just to put it into perspective...I put £20 on Shane Long to join Burnley at odds of 8/1, I then refreshed then screen 2 seconds later and the odds had gone down to 6/1. So if that's anything to go by then I wouldn't worry.

it'll be a hard act to follow if he does leave us, mainly due to how healthy the whole club set up appears to be.
Safe in the top flight and admired by many for how well the club is run. During the championship seasons and gaining the promotions, its difficult now to imagine a better time for the fans.
Hope this is all a big mistake and that he's nailed his colours firmly to the clarets mast.
If not, then so be it. I too can understand the bloke wanting to take on another challenge.
Inevitable that supporters are hard pressed to think of a suitable replacement though. Fear factor of it all going wrong double quick time.

Dyche would have to lie through his teeth for the next two months and tell everyone what sort of man he would be if he sells the club to new players if he jumped ship at the first opportunity...........

Then at the beginning of August get Ian Woan to come out and tell us how Dyche has gone back home to see his mother, then a few days later end up at Palace..............

For it to be anything like as similar.
If you want to add all of the other behavioural stuff (which I'm not disputing is different) then fine, but I've made it quite clear where the similarities lie.

Be careful what you wish for! Long life Birmingham fan from 1967 as they were my local team growing up. Bruce got us to Prem and kept us there based on very similar playing style to SDs. Initially a hero at St Andrews, fans very quickly tired of the dogged defensive and non expansive tactics. When he tried to change to more attractive football we eventually got relegated. I'm actually now a Clarets season ticket holder as my wife's from Burnley and rarely see Brum live!

He's been the best manager in my years of watching Burnley and given me (us) some fantastic times if he goes he goes! In the world of football nowadays Sean's be here for an eternity and our club is in a far better place then it's ever been before. As for who could replace him then pass! I don't really pay attention to other clubs or managers. Part of me would like Ranieri just for the unknown factor! But Bruce could do a job for us as we are in a stable position. BUT I like the fact that we don't go around spending silly amounts of money on players we've never heard of that could leave us up **** creek! I'd be a soft arse, play it safe and probably get Monk.

If he goes he'll leave tangible reminders of his success all around the club; both on the pitch and off. He'll go down as one of our greatest ever Managers which makes him a difficult act to follow. I'll be very disappointed if he goes but he's ambitious and we can't seriously expect him to stay with us if clubs with bigget budgets and a different challenge come calling.

One thing I'd say is if he is going I'd like it to happen quickly so we can get someone else in ASAP so pre season is only impacted minimally.

It's a shame Huddersfield came up because Wagner would have been someone to look at but I can't see him leaving them now - he's got a free crack at the PL to find his feet. Relegation with them won't damage his reputation.

A case of watch this space I guess!

I know nowt about bookies odds, so based on this thread I am of the opinion that this is just a a non story.
Hope Sean Dyche is just sat somewhere shrugging his shoulders and smiling at the overeaction of the supporters, clear to see how rumours spread anyway.
My guess is he'll be staying put for the forseeable future.

Just a thought. If Palace is such an attractive option for young up-coming managers, how come Marcos Silva preferred to take his turn in the revolving door at Watford rather than go there?

Croydon is a toilet and I have to say [I don't believe this story anyway] that getting back to his family in the Northampton area won't be that easy having been to Crystal Palace many times [usually on the train it has to be said] - driving up through London to junction 1 of the M1 is a very poor option and the alternative I guess is coming clockwise round the M25..even if you don't use it, you will know what a barrel of laughs that is. It is a shorter journey in miles than Turf Moor to Northampton but in time I don't think there's much in it.

When did CP put the groundwork in on this?
They wouldn't have come near until the season ended.
Then there was drinks/party after the West Ham Match for many at the club.
Then he took his family to Florida I think...is he back yet?

The worry for me is that it's not just Sean Dyche is it?

There's his back stage team of unsung heroes for whom he has mutual respect and loyalty. They would inevitably be part of any deal and would follow him out of the door.

Then there's his players. If he goes early he will have time before pre-season to target his favourite players - those who he knows well and have never let him down.

Starting with his captain Tom Heaton, he could also tempt the likes of Ben Mee, Sam Vokes and Stephen Ward to pastures new. He knows their characters and their ambitions. More importantly he knows the terms that would tempt them and BFC to part company.

The new man would have one hell of a re-building job to do - let's hope it doesn't happen.

As has been said elsewhere on this thread - this is about de-stabilising a rival you genuinely believe to be in a position at least as strong as yourself so as to improve your chances in the coming season - Newcastle, Stoke and West Brom also at it in terms of activity with teams around them. It is not something we go in for (possibly because we don't yet spend that kind of money/perceived image of club and town) but it is standard practice in the ruthless world of football.

Doesn't seem very long ago (circa June 2015) that we were fretting about SD taking the vacant post at Sunderland; didn't it emerge later that he was quite close, or was that a bit of a myth? If it was true then he might well be similarly interested in the Palace job; let's hope it comes to nothing.

Crystal Palace spent almost £40m in January.

Unless we are planning to give Ben Mee, Sam Vokes, Tom Heaton and Stephen Ward away as freebies Palace would be stretched financially to buy all of our better players.

Would also tarnish Sean Dyche's reputation with the claret fan base if he decided not only to leave but to plunge our club into chaos by asset stripping our star players.

Genuinely hope he doesn't go. However, no man is bigger than the club. For me Sean is the best manager we've had for 50 years I'll say that. But IF he does go, there'll be no shortage of quality managers keen on the chance of taking on a premier league club, that is a well run, financially stable. With brand new training facilities and great fans who consistently don't call for the gaffers head after 3 games are lost.

I want him to stay. He's put us in our best position for 50 years. Probably ever, financially. But IF he moves on. Burnley football club, it's board, it's players and it's fans do

The big problem if we lose SD, it obviously becomes us rather than Palace that are then struggling to appoint a decent manager, at time when there just doesn't seem to be any body who could come in with the right experience to build on what SD has achieved.

I'd expect that we have an ever evaluated list of potential managers that would be of interest. This sort of scenario is hardly uncommon in football and we'd be foolish not to have an idea of who we might want should the manager leave.

I feel like a lot of people are assuming that we can only go for managers who are currently out of work. There are a lot of managers in employment who would jump at the job. However, they're likely to be those from Championship level or abroad rather than directly from the Premier League.

What about Chris Wilder, if he can be talked into leaving Sheff Utd?

Not experienced in the Prem but has worked wonders and got promoted with almost every team he has managed. Plays good football as well.
