Peter Yeung: "One witness tells me he saw police shooting into Brindisa Tapas bar at Borough Market #LondonBridge"
https://twitter.com/ptr_yeung/status/871130713587929089" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

That would explain the earlier linked twitter video showing police directing customers at a bar to get on the floor.

'I was at blackfriars tube station yesterday, the only one with armed police I saw in the ones I visited yesterday. Went to it this morning and it was closed, nearest open was embankment, they knew something was coming just not where. Our 9 year old was worried before we went after manchester but we saw the lion king and went to camden and london zoo. **** em. They will not win'

Hi cfc, some of the central London tubes are closed at w/ends - not required when most of the people who use them work in the city. I don't know whether this is the case for Blackfriars tube, but that would be my first assumption on a Saturday morning.

That bar in the video is probably less than 100 yards from the tapas bar.

It's as if they're trying to stretch the police thin across multiple scenes. That's assuming all three are connected. Vauxhall might not be but only because it's not confirmed as related.

If meddling in other countries' affairs was a predictor of where terrorism comes from, we'd be seeing lots of Australian, Indian, South African, Jamaican, Canadian, American and Zimbabwean terror on the streets. We aren't. There are better predictors.

Locking people up because you suspect they might be dangerous is very, very, very shaky ground.

Specific threat, yeah, no problem, lock them up

He doesn't like the west? Hmmm, not a reason to lock up
How a specific threat is determined would be interesting to debate. However, it is a regular refrain that these murderous individuals have been of interest to the security services, yet they still get the opportunity to murder. I'm not suggesting rounding up everyone who walks on the cracks in the pavement. What I am suggesting is those who are clearly unhappy living in a relatively democratic, free, secular society, perhaps should be encouraged to leave or be locked up. The shaky ground you speak of, I would suggest, is a belief system which murders innocent people going about their every day business, whether such crimes are carried out by governments or individuals.

Anyway, in a purely historical context, it didn't work, just drove it underground and after a couple of centuries we all got a bit more enlightened about this kind of thing.

Well, some of us did....

Locking people up because they worship Islam or don't like the West isn't on, locking people up who are on facebook or TV going "I'm going to kill you all" is perfectly fine (and probably legal as well)

Not sure why your friend only saw armed police at Blackfriars tube - on Friday, if I've got that right. Armed police have been patrolling all the major London rail stations since 2005, if not earlier. I was heading down to Bank tube earlier this year, mid-morning, I was met by two armed police with their automatic weapons coming up the steps towards me. There is high visibility policy. Regrettably, it is needed.

It's time the country woke up and realised we are at war, changing Facebook profile pictures isn't making this go away.

It's clearly not a time for politics but the last think we need is weak leadership.
