The Tories are odds on to win Burnley by a 66% majority following the Brexit vote last year.

Voting in the Tories stooge a liberal dem at a previous election was a disaster .I don't think for one minute the electorate in Burnley would vote for a Tory especially in the light of Teresa's recent performance

Well voting for a Labour has served us well hasn't it! Barr Birtwistle we've had 80+ years of Labour. Open your front door and look outside, it's a f-ing wasteland! Definition of insanity: Repeating the same process and expecting a different outcome.

Not quite as daft an O.P. as Moffit's 'I think Labour are going to win the G.E..' It's any headline going at the minute.

Why is that so many people are determined to run the town down, despite so much evidence to the contrary?. (Not that I'm apportioning credit for this to any political party in particular).
Not got time to list everything, but here's just a few before I get back to work.
New schools, college and University.
Brand new railway station with link re-opened to Manchester.
Relatively new - award-winning bus station
Town centre being upgraded
Motorway upgraded
Much slum clearance completed and modern houses springing up all over town
Cheap housing prices relative to wages
Relatively low unemployment by historical levels
New businesses opening
Winner of most Enterprising Area Award in 2013
Excellent parks and leisure facilities
oh ... and a Premier League football team

Of course there's still plenty that can be improved, but why talk the town down? (It's not very helpful in attracting people and businesses to come here, and therefore damaging to the local economy).

Now I've seen some bonkers stuff on your Youtube channel, but this tops the lot. Which bookies are you getting your odds from?

It's threads like this that should be padlocked, because the title is beyond belief stupid, and based on nothing whatsoever.

I am dismayed at the censorship being shown on this forum without explanation, we have threads discussing freedom of speech too.

To be fair the messageboard is being flooded with political threads many of which could have been contained within fewer threads.

Is there any relationship between how attractive a place is and which party the people vote for?

If the same people in Burnley who voted Brexit voted Conservative would Burnley be "on the up" - just like our fantastic football team?

Good luck, everyone on Thursday. May your politics go with you. (No pun intended)!

If you don't like the way the forum is run, then either start doing some of the work to run it, or else go and find a different forum, or start your own forum. There's a load of off-topic stuff going on at the moment, there are far too many offensive posts that need removing, and if the moderators don't have time to assess something in detail, or pull it for what seems like no good reason, then that's just hard lines. Them as do the work, set the rules.

There's really no need to take that stance. For the record I have on several occasions offered to assist with moderating the board.

I live outside the Burnley area but I do know the lay of the town quite well and I'm struggling to think of these 'wastelands' of which you speak. :?:

Lets be honest. The town centres of Burnley and the rest of the East Lancashire towns, are complete s'it tips. You should visit Bury it is a thriving and go ahead town and puts the likes of Burnley to shame

I would imagine that with Bury coming under Greater Manchester they will have a few more pennies to spend than the likes of Burnley.

nil, they still haven't brought back the "Missing Link" to Skipton on the railway. For that reason, I'm withholding my vote.

Burnley town centre now looking pretty good to be honest compared to many similar towns. Agreed Bury is better, but as has been mentioned, you're taking about an entirely different type of place, in a good location.

're missing link to Skipton
When nobody rated trains in the sixties houses were built in Earby on the old railway tracks this is now a major obstacle to joining up Skipton to Colne line

You should visit Nelson.

The problem facing many town centres is that a lot of people now prefer to visit out of town retail parks or centres.

Throw in internet shopping, people in town centres drop and suddenly you have empty shops. Not helped in Burnley i don't think with all the chuggers and not having been able to get to some shops easily for a while due to the improvement works.

I have a simple solution to those houses built on the right-of-way in Earby. It's spelt e-x-p-r-o-p-r-i-a-t-i-o-n.

Here in Canterbury, the Tories lost a 10,000 majority and have a Labour MP for the first time ever. The town has over 35,000 students and 8000 of them recently registered to vote. As one commentator said: "Corbyn has offered sweeties to children.'

Isn't Democracy ace though?

When people who were happy to use a bus with lies on the side are complaining because a fully costed manifesto then you know the system is working like its supposed to.

Long live British democracy

A bit ironic don't you think.
