England v Australia

Post by ClaretTony » Sat Jun 10, 2017 2:07 pm

Kept them down to 277/9 - would love to get the runs and put the Aussies out of the competition

Just got in for the chase.

Could be a great day, if we manage 2 victories against the old enemies in the respective sports.

I thought they were going to get a lot more than that but Rashid & Wood bowled superbly. Incredibly Rashid didn't concede a single boundary in his ten overs.

I was hoping we would get a total to chase that would test us with us already being through. 340 or so, not taking anything for granted though.

Been out all day and just catching up on the highlights.

Quick thinking (& feet) from Roy to catch Maxwell

Great comeback and now we're in the box seat. 115-3 Stokes 46 and Morgan 48.

Shame about the rain - would have liked to have seen us get the runs with overs in hand

Stokes is great to watch, a destructive batter and hits the ball so hard.

Always nice to send the Aussies packing, captain Steve Smith seemed a picture of joy!

I think that we would have gone on to beat the Aussies today so they would have been going home anyway but to have all 3 of your games ruined by rain is a tad unlucky.

Saying that Smith said that if he had won the toss today he would have batted which would have been a strange decision given the weather forecast and England's ability to chase runs.

Thought there were four outstanding performances yesterday - Adil Rashid & Mark Wood with the ball and Eoin Morgan & Ben Stokes with the bat. Also thought Jos Buttler did really well when he came in when Morgan was out.

Head and shoulders better than the Aussies, despite the difficult start to the second innings and we have a far better one day captain than they do.

Think it's time for Bairstow to replace Roy now.We can't afford to be playing with 10 men in the semi finals.I would also replace Ball.He has been expensive in all the games.

He simply doesn't know how to use his spinners does Smith. We were way past 100 when he tried The leggie Zampa, he should have been on at around 50/60 for 3 before Stokes and Morgan had properly settled.

I notice Rashid gets a fair bit of stick from the cricket followers on here. IMO he's getting better and better and the fact he now disguises his googly far better makes him an extremely difficult opponent.

Have to say I watched the whole thing yesterday and I thought Rashid bowled superbly.

Thought Rashid bowled pretty well v SA too, when they were looking to get some runs.

He did. England, since the disastrous World Cup, have become a really good team to watch.
