Tarks at fault for goals v Bournemouth and WBA. The one at Bournemouth was particularly poor.

We will struggle to replace Keanes pace which constantly got us out of trouble. Neither Tarks or Dawson are suitable in that respect.
I think if SD does replace Keane directly with a Dawson or Tarks type we can expect to see the change of formation so many craved.

Well, if I were looking to replace one of the brightest defensive players in the country, I'd be looking at a injury-plagued 33 year old, whose last two PL seasons ended in relegation.
He's Hull's 3rd best centre-half. The second best (Curtis Davies) only managed a move to another Championship club.

Re: Michael Dawson
33, still a good few years left in him. Would be a decent signing.
Re: Michael Dawson
Tarks has hardly played for 18 months. We couldn't expect him to come in and be great. Replacing a England international and also playing alongside Long who has hardly kicked a ball at this level.

That's a hell of a call for a lad who has hardly played for us. Given game time he will surely settle in more and as others have posted it isn't as if he was partnering MK or BM but most of the few starts was alongside Kevin Longcolne-claret wrote:No doubt we need better than Tarkowski.

I like Tarkowski but losing Keane will make us significantly weaker and we need better. An experienced centre half would be great. Not particlarly Dawson though.

Would see Dawson as the replacement for Long, not Keane.
We have shown we are willing to spend dough these days, we won't be replacing someone we sell for £25-30m with Michael Dawson.

Re: Michael Dawson
What baffles me is if we wanted experienced back up, why didn't we just take Davis when he was available for 500k. Never miss an opportunity, to miss an opportunity

Re: Michael Dawson
Totally agree with this. I thought he was up to it but his run of games at the end confirmed to me he's adequate back but we need much better.ClaretTony wrote:We need better than Tarkowski
Dawson would be a good option with his experience even if it's only for 12 months whilst we source a longer term fix.

Re: Michael Dawson
Have to come down on the Tarks was disappointing side. I had great hopes for him but his performances at the end of the season were suspect to say the least - you could hold him responsible for 3 goals and we can't afford to get off to that sort of a start next season. That said we are unlikely to get someone like Keane unless our foreign scouting network uncovers a gem.
Pre season will be a testing time for Tarks he will have to go some to prove he can hold that place down.

I think Tarkowski needs to given a bit of time by fans. Some who are now criticising him were building him up to be the next big thing earlier in the season. He'll come good for us.

Re: Michael Dawson
There's a hell of a difference. It wasn't judging a player but a realisation of where we are and what we need. We will need a central defender to come in and replace arguably our best player. if we don't want to weaken the side then we need to get someone in who is as close to Keane as possible.taio wrote:And I totally agree with this. Ally Robertson is the player we need from Hull.
Apart from getting skinned for England's first goal he had a decent game.
Dawson would be a backward step and we need to looking at players like Rob Holding at Arsenal

Bags of experience and a good player.
I think the expectation levels of some are often out of synch with where we are on the football ladder.

Re: Michael Dawson
So far, many of the links have been for players pushing or above 30. There's nothing wrong with a bit of experience and they will be cheaper, but I hope we are looking at some quality younger additions as well.
We have to try to keep the conveyor belt running and yes, they may be expensive, but play it right and there is money to be made.

If Keane did eventually join Everton, I wouldn't mind Jagielka as part of the deal. As for Dawson, good player and has been a terrific pro but I'm not sure if he's what we need.

Re: Michael Dawson
Jagielka and Dawson are both too old for Burnley. Bigger clubs can afford to have their experience sat on the bench but we can't, and if we are buying them to start, we're in deep ****.
Maguire would cost a lot more money, but would suit us far better. The only catch is how many others might want him as well. At least we could offer first team football.
Liverpool were supposed to be after Robertson, but that could have been just paper talk. I would chase that signing until we hear the lad say no. According to Hull they had had no offers for any of their players a week ago.

Don't disagree although it does need context - all sides would struggle replacing their two centre halves who were a permanent fixture until that point. If he's not good enough then he should be sold although I have faith he will come good. Comparing him to Keane who is brilliant would so unfair given he's our best player, an England international and will smash our transfer feejdrobbo wrote:He was so unbelievably poor at the back end of last season.

Re: Michael Dawson
Ben Mee was at fault for over 10 goals in the season and has no real pace, are we getting shut of him as well? That's at the side of Keane as well, not a rookie defender playing in a side that had been wound down for the summer.
We either search the big clubs acadamies or buy abroad. We are only ever linked with championship players or players relegated every time they have played in the premier league.

I remember when we had Dyer 'ere.

Re: Michael Dawson
Dawson would be a good squad member, and would be a typical Dyche signing in terms of being an experienced professional. He's also got quite a good goal scoring record I think.
Very surprising to see some writing Tarkowski off already though, which is absolutely ridiculous. Yes he had a few poor games, but alongside Kevin Long in a partnership that hadn't played a minute of PL football at CB.

Re: Michael Dawson
I thought Tarks was excellent when he came in the side. Playing alongside Mee definitely helped although Long also looked capable.
Can't believe so many are saying we need better. He may have cost us a few goals in the last couple of games but the team played poorly as a whole in those games anyway.
Give him a starting berth alongside Mee. On the right wages Dawson would be a good squad player with lots of experience. Curtis Davies would've been my shout but he's left Hull for a championship team I believe?

Re: Michael Dawson
Far too soon to write Tarkowski off, there is a good player in there. To suggest he's ready to fill Keane's boots in the team is probably a little fanciful at this stage.
The problem we have is that the Premier League doesn't really give opportunity to bed him in and get him used to the demands of the league.
We need a quality replacement for Keane.

I wasn't doing - and I explained it further that I think we need to get someone in as good as Keane or as close to. DCWat has jost posted the same. I wasn't writing anyone off at all. We saw the problems of Keane/Mee being out at the end of the season, and we need to be at the same level defensively next season as we were for the bulk of 2016/17.bobinho wrote:Might have been what you were saying, but it isn't what you said.

Tarks is a good footballer. Give him time to settle
Re: Michael Dawson
I wasn't intending on twisting your words if that's what I've done. When you said we need better than him it certainly gave the appearance you dont think he is good enough. Yet you have been critical of people who have suggested exactly the same of other players after a handful of games. I wasn't the only person to see your post in that way. I don't think anyone won't think we don't need another centre half but I've no idea whether the one who comes in will turn out to be better that Tarkowski.ClaretTony wrote:Well there's a big difference.
