'I played the Fool' - Southside Johnny and the Asbury Dukes.. [1978] from 'Hearts of Stone'.
This is a belter, though Southside Johnny not normally associated with Northern Soul...the sound is there though.
I saw Southside Johnny three times at the [much missed] Town and Country Club, Kentish Town, in the eighties - just a fantastic live act.
The band are big big mates with Bruce S. and the E. St Band and have collaborated on many projects...both from the same bit of New Jersey.

Re: Your favourite Northern Soul record?
Funnily enough, I was thinking about a northern soul thread the other day. Well, in line with some other posts, this isn't northern soul and wasn't even released but in my unbiased view, is quite simply the best record ever made. Stevie Wonder and his version of I Hear a symphony. Err...can someone please post it for me as we are on holiday and I can't do a link on the phone. Ta!

The Diana Ross/Supremes version is the well known version, as you no doubt know.
The Christine Cooper record has been in my top ten since 1974, but a similar type of record is in my top 3. This is the fantastic How can I ever find the way, on MGM records. The b side is almost as good. Carole and Jerry being the artists.
Still can't post a link. Any kind Claret willing to assist?
