I don't think there's much difference between the 2 nowadays.

The majority of rides will be very very similar, with the headline grabbing ones possibly being the only difference.
They're also owned/operated by the same company.

Enjoyed both of them. Thorpe Park is far more compact, so rides seem a lot closer to each other imho.

Never been Thorpe park but I hated Alton towers. Lines were far, far too long, only went on 3 rides all day when I went. Also at Alton towers they aren't allowed to build above the height of the trees which is stupid for a theme park. I'm never going to go Alton towers again.

Now aged 64 I am a fan of both. More water rides at Thorpe but Alton has imo the better rides. In school holidays, queues are horrendous so get there early. Once at Alton we were staying locally and after about 5pm all the school trips went home. Son (Liverpooll supporter, I'm ashamed to say) and I rode Nemesis 4 times in 30 minutes!

Go to theme parks all over the world and the UK is way behind these days, however, Alton Towers will always be somewhere somewhat magical to me due to childhood trips.

Thorpe has definitely caught it up and coasters like The Swarm, Stealth and Saw are very good, however I still feel Nemesis is the best ride in this country (and despite some....bad press, I love The Smiler too).

Alton is by far the nicer park too, stunning scenery.
