What did you expect?
There was a press release a month back saying we'll have to be patient for signings.
The chairman literally said it himself.

Calm down its only June, it's not like we are the only team not to have brought anyone in yet.
We don't even return for pre season for over a week.
We are not market leaders and cannot throw millions at it to force things through.
We will pick up the scraps and polish them up, making sure any fees paid are at the lowest possible.
Only the super powers are able to cherry pick players and get them in early to gel, the other 12 teams are all jockeying for position, wheeling and dealing.

It doesn't matter how long it takes, what matters is bringing In the right players.

I would say that looking at what BFC have done in the last 5 years, 10 years, 20 years, 30 years - "The Burnley Way" should be taken as the prime model of how to run a football club. There won't be many football club chairmen or fans who look at "The Burnley Way" and sneer.

Re: All linked, none signed.
I don't understand why people get so immersed with signings and transfers. You have no control over it. Why get worked up over things you can't control? Do you people get angry at weather? Do you wake up in the morning and instantly get angry because it raining. Do you look out the window and mutter '******* moon' before doing to sleep?

“But pre-season is a long period, so I think it’s good to get the lads away, and in that more confined environment where everyone is together for five or six days to allow us to get that bonding done, as well as the physical, tactical and technical work." - SD
Every year Sean espouses the importance of pre-season for his team and getting players in early. Every year the recruitment team don't deliver it.
We are now in our second concurrent PL season and we need to step up. If all the best players get snapped up by other clubs we are left dealing with the scraps. Small town mentality.

Dsr might be completely the opposite of me in everything else, but in how our football club is run and does its business, we completely agree.

"Will get fitter/better with a full pre season"

The perception from other Managers is that Burnley are a very well run club. I've been told this by one of them.

Hard to recruit when we not 100% sure who we will be replacing. We might spend £10million on a replacement for Keane and then the Everton deal falls through.
Re: All linked, none signed.
We should be strengthening, not just replacing like for like if a player decides to leave us.

Karanka made a point of telling everybody that he did all of his transfer business early at Middlesbrough last season so that all of the players had time to bond as a group so that his team could hit the ground running.

Re: All linked, none signed.
The atmosphere at the first home game last season against Swansea was very flat. I thought it would have been bouncing. I can only attribute it in part to the lack of signings that 'give that feel good factor'. That game cost us 3 points against relegation rivals and heaven forbid if we'd gone down that would, IMO have been a major contributory factor. I appreciate it's not easy but it's always better to do transfer activity early.
Re: All linked, none signed.
We backed the manager last season and the intention is to back him again with even more funds. Seems pretty reasonable to me let them get on with it and moan come September if it's not what you like.

But we didn't go down and we were never in any danger after that so your point about early signings last season is completely irrelevant.ashtonlongsider wrote:That game cost us 3 points against relegation rivals and heaven forbid if we'd gone down that would, IMO have been a major contributory factor.

Re: All linked, none signed.
How about we start a new thread with different pictures of sticks to beat the club with.
Or maybe Mike Garlick should send a personal e-mail to those less patient ones amongst us and make up a few porkies.
Or we could wait until the transfer window officially opens.
Tick tick.

The transfer window opens on the 9th of June. It's contracts that generally run from the 1st July.
Just saying.

The point still remains that despite not getting signings in early, the season couldn't have gone any better. It was perfect from our point of view.ashtonlongsider wrote:Think you need to read the whole post instead of just paraphrasing for your own agenda.

Re: All linked, none signed.
It would be nice to get players in early and get the ground running also get there fitness levels up to peak standards . Also we have some decent fixtures in august what are winnable . Its looking like most of our deals will be done in august when prices start going down . We managed to get away with it last season with a good start to the season . Lets hope we can do the same again this year ans then when the signings arrive we can push on up the table

Re: All linked, none signed.
Last season we had momentum from the promotion season before.
This season we're going into after winning just 2 out of the last 16.

Re: All linked, none signed.
Considering we were never in any danger of going down last season it's no wonder we were able to wind it down at the end of the season. And the 2 wins out of 16 isn't that relevant if you are still getting draws, which we were. We comfortably made sure we didn't lose the games we couldn't afford to lose and won the games that mattered - Stoke & Palace.UpTheBeehole wrote:Last season we had momentum from the promotion season before.

No doubt you'll correct me again, but I'm sure that negotiations can take place from June 9th but players can't sign on the dotted line until July 1st.

What are the odds on Burnley "doing a Leicester" and winning the premier League? Do you think someone is trying to get longer odds before we start adding to our squad?

I'm not sure ragging a draw away at Sunderland could be classed as comfortable. We were outclassed all too often by our nearest competitors.Spijed wrote: We comfortably made sure we didn't lose the games we couldn't afford to lose

Of course it does. A winning feeling is infectious.Tall Paul wrote:Momentum (as you mean it) in football doesn't exist.
Leicester stayed up and then went on to win the league, all from that winning feeling.
Teams come straight from League One all the way through to the PL. Winning feeling.
Our 08/09 promotion - winning feeling.
Re: All linked, none signed.
And we went up on the back of a 23 match unbeaten run....and then lost at home to Swansea. You forget that momentum was irrelevant last season....lose away, win at home etc. Even after some bad defeats against the likes of Leicester & West Brom it mattered not on iota as we had the ability to bounce back at home.UpTheBeehole wrote:Of course it does. How does your momentum theory apply to Chelsea winning the league last season after winning just two of their last ten games the season before?UpTheBeehole wrote:Of course it does. A winning feeling is infectious.

Re: All linked, none signed.
Momentum maybe the wrong word. Momentum is a consequence of mentality and belief, not a cause unto itself.
Mentality and believe grow from winning games and they are damaged by losing games.
