A few Scottish lads to keep an eye on

Post by ablueclaret » Sun Jul 09, 2017 4:55 pm

I've always been keen that we recruit from the Scottishmarket and take no notice of the derogatory remarks made about the standards of their Leagues.
Many class players have come from north of the border and many more will do so.
Not only that but they are relatively cheap and a move down to Burnley is not as off putting as it might be to some Southern softies

So here are a few names to consider.

Connor McLennan Aberdeen
Jack Aitchinson Celtic
Roman Hughes. H Accies
Callum Morrison. Hearts
Lewis Morrison. Kilmarnock
Liam Burt Rangers
James Penrice. Patrick T
Greg Morrison Ross County
Mathew Knox. Livingstone
Roy Currie. Hearts
Tony Gallacher Falkirk.

Now I'm not pretending to know much about any of these except that some big clubs have been after them, but amongst them are surely one or two diamonds we could take a gamble on, and it is now when we have Premier League status that we have the best chance to recruit them at minimal cost.

Could you also mention which clubs are after which player.

Real Madrid had Stevie Fletcher on their list of players to watch it was mentioned, just for comparisons sake.

Roy Currie at Hearts is supposed to be a bit spicy.

Not my job BOT unless the club want to pay me, but we are missing a trick in that market.

The only ones that seemed to have gone seamlessly into the premier league are overseas players using it as a stepping stone like Wanyama and Van Dijk. For example the lad that was a standout star for Ross 2 years ago went to Burton. And last year's top scorer also just went to Burton.

These aren't to go seamlessly into our Premier League side, these are players for Duff to take under his wing and make fly, some may be a tad further on than that, but these players are for our future success, they are the succession.

I bet one or two of these will make the grade, but do we have the scouting network to know which ones,

Well if we're writing off all the young Scottish talent we certainly should be looking at Ireland given our present recruitment policy, could save ourselves a small fortune.

Do we have the scouting network?
Ask around on here, someone will know.

Will it be moving quick enough for your liking?
Probably not.

Are they scouting in ABC approved leagues?
Maybe.

List of names we should be looking at yet in the same OP you don't know much, I would say you don't know anything, about them. Yes great transfer strategy, let's sign every young Scottish player ever linked with another club as one of them might be decent, well done.

There will be people on this forum who have seen some of these youngsters who might give a reasonably informed opinion.
I guess you're happy enough with our Irish obsession Sidney.

Scotland Ireland and the lower leagues have to be where we are looking, if we're not we aren't doing our scouting job properly.

I've heard that wee Jamie McTarks could maybe turn oot to be a fine young player, assuming the laddie is played in the correct position the noo.

This isn't being controversial, any controversial threads I put up are quickly deleted, this is what people ask for a list of players who might be of interest.
The moment they get those names they don't want them.

All it is is a list of young Scottish players deemed to be talented, make of it what you will.

Irish obsession?

We've signed players proven in the championship and /or the PL.

I couldn't give a toss where they're from if they're good enough.

You just want an influx of young players for your own agenda.

I don't think anyone's asking for a list of players someone has guessed at.

Poor show from you so far this season. 1/10

I don't think that they play much football north of the border nowadays. They sign so many young players from England that haven't quite cut the mustard in our lower leagues. Hard to fathom out given the amount of world class players that they used to produce from the eighties and beyond.

The only Scottish player to make the transition in recent years is Andrew Robertson, doesn't suggest a conveyor belt of talent.
If we were looking north of the border Falkirk,Hibs and Hearts have some prospects, Jamie Walker is one to keep in eye on, Rangers have offered 500k, but Hearts want a million, certainly within our budget and wage demands, only 24 so if he made an impact potential re-sale value as well.

Oh dear ablue, seems your extensive research failed to uncover one player who is attracting some genuine interest.

How could that happen? Surely you didn't put your list together by sticking the Panini album to the dartboard, did you?

Yes I apologise for that but as we are not going to sign any youngsters it's all a bit futile, and whilst none of the above mentioned might make it, there certainly will be talented players coming through from Scotland, the gene pool hasn't been destroyed just handicapped by bad diets.

Not futile at all. You stated that big clubs were after some of these lads and were asked which clubs.

Just make some up if you have to, nobody will bother checking.

I'm surprised I'm typing this as I've criticised ablueclaret stick in the past but I really can't see anything wrong in this. Just because a League is "weak" doesn't automatically mean all the players are crap. The Czech league, taken at random, is weak but had he not failed the medical, Patrick Schick would now be a Juventus player (fee of €30m).

Robertson was playing for Dundee United until 2014 and has just signed for Liverpool.

I would hope our recruitment network is well aware of the Scottish market.

Agreed, there are and will be some talents up in Scottish leagues. To dismiss is only the same as saying a player playing in the National Conference can't be good enough to play in the premier league, but players develop. they've all got to start somewhere.

Personally like Stuart Armstrong at Celtic and think he'd be a good signing for most teams placed 10-20 in the prem. I would have liked to have signed him 3 years ago when we put a bid in, but he went to Celtic instead.
