Pretty underwhelming signing tbh.
Is he better than what we have? No he is isnt.
Wasting most of our budget on a relegation candidates squad player.
I guess as a few people have suggested he will help retain the ball. But unless he is playing with Defour where is the creativity going to come from.

4 goals in 162 premier league appearances.
Last season:
0 goals
0 assists
Pass completion 74%
In 25 appearances.
Not fantastic stats at all for a team that struggled at the bottom.
I will give him a chance though

I've only been watching Burnley for 30 years or so but I think Cork has for me been the best central midfielder we have had in that time.
It was a close run thing with Barton but I think Joey struggled this season after his 2nd or 3rd game back.
Something else in his favour is this (hopefully link works, never tried before):

That's quite a statement.
Have you forgotten about John Deary?

Re: Jack Cork
This would be a cracking signing and a real statement of intent. People talk a lot about us lacking pace but the more glaring difference between us and the top half of the Premier League has always been with ball retention. Cork was clearly class act as an inexperienced kid with us previously, and now with several years as a regular starter at this level he seems a perfect fit for us, much like the Walters signing.

Because being seen talking to a Burnley official in a Burnley shirt may somehow alert other clubs to us doing a deal and allow any other interested clubs the opportunity to swoop in last minute, of which does happen. Kinda "keeping your cards close to your chest", ya know, tactics? Nothing about being criminal.Shore claret wrote:Why should they be discreet, it's not criminal and I would of thought anyone else that had Intentions of signing him would of been informed by his agent.

Or the deal is already done and therefore they don't need to be discreet. Pretty sure he doesn't have to fly to Ireland to sign the contract with Dyche's own Parker Pen.

When is a player liaison officer involved in talks?
The clamour to make out that we're tinpot and don't know what we are doing, still frazzles the mind.

Re: Jack Cork
BoT, I didn't say my favourite in all that time....
Think of that midfield in 93/94 with Deary, Joyce, McMinn and Eyres then we had Inchy and Super Johnny Francis ahead of them. Wasted in league 1 (as it's now called).

Seen the fact that Cork retains possession used as a negative. As well as pace - that's the thing we're crying out for. It was infuriating watching us struggle to string three passes together last season.

Re: Jack Cork
I still stand by what I said yesterday to Spice - our central midfield is not good enough. Jack Cork would improve it. People also say he's defensive, but he can spray a ball out wide and control a ball. Pace is less important in his position.

Re: Jack Cork
I would have thought Cork would be being brought in to help us keep hold of the ball more this year, so other teams have less chance to create opportunities, if we can stifle a few of the teams who we especially struggled against last season Away from Home me may have a chance of picking up a few more points Away as well as at the Turf.
How can we go wrong by bringing in extra experience, I would prefer to retain the ball and pass sideways than lose it and concede.

Re: Jack Cork
This midfield quartet should be especially effective away from home, if we can retain possession better, it will help our defence, which was over worked particularly in the away games, which may be one of the reasons we conceded so many late goals.10 million including add-ons is decent value in the current market,Rileybobs wrote:Happy with this, in fact I suggested him as a potential signing before the close of the season. Not sure I'll get a cut.
It's clear we need to add some creativity into the side but so far we've strengthened with some really useful additions. Cork is a very tidy player, retains possession well and moves the ball quickly.
If you now look at our central midfield options (providing we close this deal) we have 4 players who are extremely comfortable on the ball. This should help us have a larger share of the ball and move the ball through the ranks quicker. It also would suggest that Dyche may not be as keen to bypass the midfield this season which should appease some of the critics of our style of play.

Deal done at the airport ????? or just paying the food bill

Re: Jack Cork
I find it astonishing that people are writing him off already.
Dyche has developed some pretty average players into decent players. Arfield, Lowton, Mee to name 3. Dyche tends to struggle to develop the more skillful players like Defour but he gets the best out of players that work hard.
Cork is the type of player that I think Dyche can develop.
