Best ignored Jimscho. We've made a good signing in bringing back a popular player who will undoubtedly strengthen our squad and options. Yet we still have some coming on trying to ruin the thread.Jimscho wrote:At least we don't need a striker now we've got Tarka playing up field. What planet are you on?

Welcome back, Jack.
I'm more thrilled with this signing than I am with the other two - and they are both great additions to the team/squad.
I'm looking forward to Jack repeating his trick of scoring the third goal in a number of 3-0 (or better) wins.
I feel he may have underachieved at Soton and Swansea, and his vintage years are staring now. Like all great wines he will have improved with age and putting the Cork in our Claret bottle means we will soon be enjoying Champagne moments.

A great signing, the return of the Jack.
Just reading the article made me wonder why Howe wasn't interested. Regardless, good news.

3 really good signings.
And we haven't even spent the money for Michael Keane yet. A lot of dry powder, I'm sure some will be put by for January.
Welcome back Jack, it's great to be havin yer

Excellent signing. Not particularly sure what Ablueclaret is going on about - Cork gives us a midfielder who is more mobile than most holding midfielders, reasonably good in the air, reliable in possession and with a decent if not flashy range of distribution. He's probably as complete a midfielder as we've ever signed in his prime. He can play with Westwood - intelligent and technically sound central midfielders generally can - or with Hendrick, in which case we'll have a midfield 2 with the combination of atheticism and ability we've rarely had at our disposal before. If he's on the bench because we prefer the combination of Westwood's range of passing and Hendrick, then that in itself will speak huge volumes for our depth.levraiclaret wrote:There are still 7 weeks to go in this transfer window and we have signed three first team starters (arguably) not development squad players for the future.
This is a strong positive start to this window, imho.
I'm happy I hope you're happy too, as David Jones once sang.
His mobility as a holding player should give the wide midfielders and full backs more scope to get forward - even if he doesn't himself offer goals, he may very well help release those players to be more of a direct goalscoring threat. And he'll also help us defensively at set pieces.
I've been critical of the way we do business at times, but so far in this window we've signed 3 potential front line first teamers before July is 2 weeks old. That's a great start - and if we can add a centre back in the next couple of weeks so they have a fortnight or more of pre-season to get to know the team, then we'll have had a really excellent pre-season of recruitment - although of course we'll want more players before the window closes.

Are you still not employed by the club?

As I said on the other Cork thread
Well done to all concerned for getting this deal done.
Big signing.

Ablue would rather we were relegated than stay up if we were going to play like a Pulis Stoke team, that's all.

Past memories, feel good factor, SD type of player, a lot in his favour, but as to whether he can make this side evolve more than Westwood for instance I'm not so sure.
My first thoughts were this confirms 4-4-2 but he has got the ability to play as a holding midfielder the position I think we most need filling, and Tarka can be left up field were be really could be a threat?
My last memory of Cork was part of a three man midfield that ran rings round our boys back in March remember that? 71% possession for Swansea. So for me,great signing.
Also in the same game Tarka came on for the last ten minutes plus stoppage time to close down the game playing just in front of the back four. I can't honestly remember him even touching the ball in those fifteen minutes. So where you get the idea from he is some kind of Kante or Makele I don't know.
I really am beginning to wonder what you are growing down on that allotment.

Continuing the 'Irish' theme, could we become only the second club team ever to win the World Cup.

As great as that game was the real entertainment was listening to the PKE fans going apoplectic on the radio during the drive home.
They seemed most upset that we apparently were declaring ourselves "superior"

Re: ARTICLE: Burnley put a Cork in the Claret
Difficult job this headline writing business..... i get paid the big bucks to do it, not sure I'm worth it though
Personally i wouldn't have got hung up on Cork as a proper noun, and would have used it as an adjective to address the comment above of not really wanting to "cork a claret." So simply reverse it - "Clarets uncork latest signing" and then the qualifier is in the subheading
BTW does he take penalties? Hope not! If he did and missed, Tony's match day report headline could possibly be "Cork bottles It!"
