Sorry. Bit naughty that...
FWIW, I'd like to see gray have another season at this level. I saw an improvement last season, and I think maybe there's more to come.

This control thing is a bit of a misnomer too.
He's not got an outstanding first touch - granted - but some of his lay-offs and flicks can be quite brilliant at times. Because of our style of play we don't often get runners going past him so he can't do those flicks as often as perhaps he'd like.
He's a pace merchant. His whole career he'll have played in teams setup to thread him through and that's what he'll have practised in training again and again.
Now we're asking him to play with his back to goal - a completely different skill set. And we're asking him to do it at the highest level.
United have just paid between £75-£90 million for a striker and you should read what Everton fans say about his hold up and link play.

If Gray could get 10-12 goals in a full PL season, [9/32 in the season just finished] then we should keep him rather than sell for the £10m [?] that we might get...those goals could help us stay up again.
Could he and Assombalonga play together..what do the experts on here think? [yes I know, there are quite a few of you...form an orderly queue]
Assombalonga, Gray, Barnes, Walters and Vokes would be something else...the best bunch of forwards I have EVER seen at Turf Moor if it happened...replace Keane properly and there is no way we are going down.

I know he only has 12 months left but with his Championship goals tally, for us and Bees, he has to be worth more than Kodjia and Hogan. They both went for £15m.

Socrates wrote:I think there is a complete misconception amongst Burnley fans over how many goals a striker should score for Burnley at this level.
This isn't the football league with 8 games more, poorer defenders and we're a stronger team. If Gray got 15 goals a season two years on the spin he would be a £50 million footballer in the England squad. To expect him to get that is simply unreasonable.
I'm going to put up a list of the top league scorers from last year :-
Kane
Lukaku
Sanchez
Costa
Aguero
Dele Alli
Zlatan
Hazard
Josh King
Benteke
Defoe
Llorente
Son Heung-Min
Coutinho
Mane
Vardy
Giroud
Firmino
Deeney
Vokes
Walcott
Gylfi Sigurdsson
Pedro
Negredo
Gray
Look at that list of players. Internationals, players on hundreds of thousands a week. Other than perhaps Josh King and Troy Deeney who can we reasonably expect our strikers to regularly outperform?
Our strikers did bloody well last year when you factor in Gray's suspension and the service they get. Anybody who doesn't get that ...... I would respectfully suggest doesn't have an understanding of the level we're at.
Brilliant post. Another AG fan, here. He might be a bit untidy at times, but he’s potent- and a striker most teams in the lower half would love to have. Seems to be totally unappreciated by too many on here (in my opinion).

Nobody is disputing that gray isnt a good player because he his . If we could had britt into the mix and keep gray we would have loads of different options and if gray wanted to leave i think january would be a good time

AG has some very useful attributes, strength and sprint speed being the obvious ones. He also has that top strikers knack of being always looking to snap a shot off. His failings unfortunately are equally glaring - his distribution, close control and link up leave a lot to be desired.
He reminds me of a modern and higher level Johnny Francis. A player I liked.
I like AG and would like him to stay, I feel he is a top notch Championship striker... and a good third striker for the Premier. There again most people will disagree with me when I say that the search for a new front man for me would be a player who could compliment Vokes, as to me on form and playing will Vokes would be for me be the pick of our current crop.

Why would half way through a season be a good time to leave?

Bit naughty with my above post, I really like Andre I think he causes defenders real problems.
I think what he does is try to be too clever with his first touch he tries to beat the man and get away all in one movement. As people have said he has got better each year and next year could be a real breakthrough year for him.

Only problem I have with Andre is him and his agent believing that after 1 season (including a suspension) in the PL he deserves the quoted wages (if they are to be believed).

Think the wage thing was just paper talk, he certainly won't get 100k a week at Burnley, doubt he will even earn half this amount,at the moment i would retain Andre, but if he is adamant he wants a move, we should have a back-up in place (Assombalonga) in case West Ham or another come in at the 11th hour as we will be short up top.

But we wouldn't sell at the 11th hour to leave us short up top.
We aren't scratching around for brass like we have had to previously.

Financially we don't need to sell that is true, but if a players head is turned, it is difficult to reject a request from the said player to at least talk to other clubs,Burnley are not the only club in this position Arsenal and Tottenham are struggling to keep their star names despite in Tottenham's case champions league football to offer.

BleedingClaret wrote:Gray is the best forward we have if you were a dominant team creating pressure and clear cut chances....
However as for OUR requirements at EPL level he is IMO lacking ball control, link play, awareness, agility, guile and strangely strength.
Understanding (and agreeing) perfectly with what you say is one thing.
If we follow the logic it is another thing.
What we are saying is that because we are not a great side (balls into the strikers aren't great and therefore need a higher quality of control etc) we therefore need a higher quality of striker.
The only problem with this logic is that better teams need better strikers and worser teams can live with lesser strikers. Obviously the reverse is true.
I see your point though and it's an interesting perspective ahead of whatever happens with Gray and another possible striker this season.

I have noticed that on the watford forum they seem to have little interest on this transfer and yet based where his child lives i would say they are the slight favorites.

Forest must be a nightmare to deal with. After the Lansbury saga, that seemed to roll on for season after season, you have to wonder why are we bothering with Forest.

IMO, Assombalonga would be more suited to our style of play (next season in particular with Taylor, Brady and JBG providing the aerial crossing), Gray is pretty useless in the air if truth be told.

He's a player not everyone wants here, certainly one that I don't. I was really hoping Burnley would "save" us what will be IMHO a £15m disaster.
