Re: Is it now time to re-name the Bob Lord stand.
It's an awful looking stand that needs re-modelling with a landmark attached.
Something that you can see for miles around, like the Wembley arch or the old twin towers.
Put a bit of character into the place, whilst we still have all this money swilling around.

I don't believe the club can't rename the stand. The club owns the stand 100%, who exactly would we get in trouble with if we changed the name of the stand? a dead man?
Just doesn't make any sense

Should the Bob Lord stand ever be renamed, a curse would strike the club for a thousand years.
Only the renouncing of PL TV money and the consumption of 20 million sausages would lift the curse.

Re: Is it now time to re-name the Bob Lord stand.
It was what I was told at the time. If it is the case it could take a share vote to alter that and maybe the board wouldn't want to do it. Remember, he chose to give it that name himself in the first place and the directors at the time could do nothing about it.PutTheWheelieBinsOut wrote:I don't believe the club can't rename the stand. I know it was years ago and not necessarily in the current boards thoughts but if they ever think about adding extra rows to the front of the Bob Lord Stand they need to give their heads a massive wobble.
Adding rows at pitch level with substandard views is frankly stupid, we have thousands of restricted/below par views in the ground and sorting that out has to be the priority when any work is done, hopefully another successful season can allow some money to be put into the ground infrastructure over the coming years.

Re: Is it now time to re-name the Bob Lord stand.
It's 15 years ago and they were looking at what could be done quickly should we go up to offer any increase in capacity. As it has turned out, we did nothing when we did eventually go up and more often than not the ground has been big enough. The one thing about the Lord is that the front row is some height above the pitch, unlike most stands around the league.Goody1975 wrote:I know it was years ago and not necessarily in the current boards thoughts but if they ever think about adding extra rows to the front of the Bob Lord Stand they need to give their heads a massive wobble.

I thought Bournemouth had an interesting idea with a small stand.
They have put a collage of fans on either side of the stand uprights.

Not so sure why his departure was any more horrible than any other manager. We were sliding down and we'd just lost four on the bounce. Admittedly the board took the decision to deflect criticism away from themselves but by then I believe Jimmy's drinking had got so bad he wasn't able to carry out his duties.Vegas Claret wrote:Whilst I don't think he warrants a stand I'd love to see him recognized for sure, his departure was horrible.

Definitely time for a change. Should be....
THE BANASZKIEWICZ & GARLICK STAND

Re: Is it now time to re-name the Bob Lord stand.
The BLS is a little old, dated and tired now. Trouble is, any redevelopment will cause massive problems on brunshaw road. I don't just mean for traffic, as that's manageable. I mean any stand improvements/replacement would likely require encroachment onto the road.
Anyway, the CFS requires redevelopment first imo. Having one entrance and exit for each set of supporters is totally unfit from a safety perspective. The safety requirements may well have been met during construction, but they most certainly wouldn't be met now.
The BLS has four exit points I believe from memory.
As an aside, the bee hole end as I knew it is now the Jimmy Mac stand. The James Hargreaves stand is the longside. The CFS and the BLS are that, as I ignore the sponsorship names.
As for renaming, nah the BLS has its place in history. The CFS could do with honouring a Burnley legend, such as Brian miller as already mentioned, or maybe even Barry kilby?. I'd leave SD out of it until we win the ECL.

If we ever do build a new cricket field stand it would be a problem in that we would have to have turnstiles at the back. That means we would either have a smaller stand or need land from the cricket club.bobinho wrote:The BLS is a little old, dated and tired now. As for a new stand on Harry Potts Way - there is plenty of room. The current Bob Lord Stand is some distance away from the pavement let alone encroaching on the road.
Re: Is it now time to re-name the Bob Lord stand.
The width of the cfs, doesn't look to far off being the same as jimmy mac, I'm sure a modern day stadium designer could over come the problem of the turnstiles, I just think in the short term the exterior needs a facelift to represent our premier league standing

All these ideas for building a new stand. It would ruin our view from the Longside if it was a higher stand.

The only problem with the bob lord in the bad old days of div four was that the seats faced the pitch.

Re: Is it now time to re-name the Bob Lord stand.
The Cricketfield remains because it's the stand next to the Cricket field, so that's easy enough.
The Longside is the Longside and not the plumbers merchants stand.
Jimmy Mc stand goes without saying, because it's named after our greatest player.
If the Bob Lord has to change then it should be called Harry's Potting Shed.

Re: Is it now time to re-name the Bob Lord stand.
Is the side of the bob lord stand going to get new offices above the concourse like on the other side? I think when/if that's done the exterior will look a lot better. That's the first bit of the ground you see coming from town and it's the worst bit. As said before take them sky banners down as well! It's embarrassing. The 70s style 'Burnley Football Club' above the bob lord entrance needs to be done up too.

No plans to do the other side. We were told the Sky banners were coming down in spring 2016 but over a year later they remain. It's unbelievably shabby and, as you say, it's the first part of the ground seen as you come from town.thelaughingclaret wrote:Is the side of the bob lord stand going to get new offices above the concourse like on the other side? Re: Is it now time to re-name the Bob Lord stand.
When I started this thread I didn't really do it to discuss making changes to the ground.
That has been discussed many times in many different threads.
I was interested in the possibility or willingness of the club/fans to change the name of the stand.
Reading some of the replies it is clear to me that a lot of people view the stand and therefore it's name as part of our heritage.
I think that we are all very comfortable with things that we grow up with. So what superficial changes are made it will always be known as the Bob Lord stand.
If at some point the stand is replaced then and only then will the name be up for discussion.
Cheers for your thoughts.

I would like at some time in the future Barry Kilby to have some point of strong reference on the ground.
If he hadn't intervened in the 90's where we would be today?

Tony, says there's no plans to do the other side of bls, how many different designs and plans have we had in recent years and they never proceed with them or finish them, you always want a sense of pride in your stadium, struggling to have that at moment.

Add a swimming pool, and you could call it the Bobbing Lord Stand. At Hallowe'en you could have the world's largest bobbing-for-apples competition. Replace the water with cooking oil, and you could have a bobbong-for-french fries contest, with only Woevers fans invited. (This means you, Saxo.)
