How Much Was Actually Raised By The "David Reeves Bucket"?
Given our healthy financial position now, the DRB gets mentioned as comparison
from those dark days to nowadays, but how much did the bucket-rattling bring in?
Was it all for the Reeves proposed transfer, or general fund raising?
Incidentally, didn't Howard Wilkinson scupper the deal? I believe Reeves
was bitterly disappointed not to come.

We raised more than was needed, that's for sure. Sheffield Wednesday said he wasn't available.

From memory, £3,700 at the first game and £2,300 at the second. I might have details in my scrapbook - anyone got the dates?

Re: How Much Was Actually Raised By The "David Reeves Bucket"?
Similar to what dsr said, I believe it was about £7,000.
Reeves then went to newly promoted Bolton a few months later and a division three club at that for £80,000.

From memory I think it was in the LET that Sheff Wed wanted £35,000. There was other fundraising bsides the bucket - as previously mentioned "Pay Double" was another initiative I remember taking part in with a lot of others.... sure there were other things to though. But to no avail.
We soon got over Reeves with the arrival of Paul Smith from Arsenal though - when it all startd again to raise the £50k Arsenal were thought to want for him... all to no avail again.
... I wonder how much the club should owe me with interest for that time, we seemed to be dipping in for a bit extra every week for one thing or another.

Paul Smith? Are you getting confused with Paul Shaw or have I had a complete memory blank?elwaclaret wrote:From memory I think it was in the LET that Sheff Wed wanted £35,000. Scored a few as well, six or seven, as I recall.Quicknick wrote:David Reeves was such a good player for us.
Can't remember how many appearances, though.
Re: How Much Was Actually Raised By The "David Reeves Bucket"?
Saturday 27th February, Burnley 0 Scarborough 1, Gate 7,841, Golden Gate £3,759.
Saturday 5th March, Burnley 3 Exeter 0, Gate 6,052, Golden Gate £2,278. Scorers Davis (the first), Reeves, Taylor (Steve).
About the same time, a Colne man called Steve Bell was changing his name to Steve Burnley (which also raised £100+ for the new player fund). His fiancee Audrey claimed to be happy with the idea. Anyone know what happened to them? Did he ever change back?

Steve Bell was from Nelson not Colne. His fiance was Audra. He is still called Steve Burnley and i believe was one of those imprisoned after the alleged incident with Sheff Wed fans in the miners a couple of years back.dsr wrote:Saturday 27th February, Burnley 0 Scarborough 1, Gate 7,841, Golden Gate £3,759.

I remember seeing Steve before the Telford game in the Cup scrapping with some Telford fans at a bus stop. He had dungarees on and looked a bit like a member of Dexys Midnight Runners!!dsr wrote:Saturday 27th February, Burnley 0 Scarborough 1, Gate 7,841, Golden Gate £3,759.

Been better off signing Vic Reeves, went on to bigger things
Re: How Much Was Actually Raised By The "David Reeves Bucket"?
Or Jim Reeves, before he crashed.

Another Clarets Legend - Tony Philliskirk - the two of them seemed to score for fun for Bolton iirc.RingoMcCartney wrote:Who was the other striker that Reeves teamed up with at Bolton with blond hair as well.?

Especially against us , as I remember.
"Oh no, not Frilly Skirt again!?" My mate woould say. As Philiskirk peeled away after netting another.
We were far less complimentary about "cheating john McGinley" After he didn't do the sporting throw back to one of our players, after we'd kicked the ball out of play cos one of theirs was injured!!!
I can smile about it now. But me and several thou on the longside were most dischuffed , at the resulting Bolton goal.
Actually it still winds me up, thinking about it!!

What year was this? 88? Just wondering as I think my 1st game was a 0-1 defeat to Scarborough.dsr wrote:Saturday 27th February, Burnley 0 Scarborough 1, Gate 7,841, Golden Gate £3,759.

Yes, 1987-88, the year after the Orient game.Transpennine wrote:What year was this? 88? Just wondering as I think my 1st game was a 0-1 defeat to Scarborough.

Bolton games were always a bit tasty back then!
