Although he is buying shares, the plan appears to be to buy existing shares from private shareholders, not a share issue, so it won't see any money going to the club. Given the relatively small number of shares that aren't owned by the directors it will more likely be a token shareholding.

If there's one thing David Fishwick is good at, it's getting in the papers

Is it just me? What is the appeal of Fishwick? He reinforces the negative stereotype of our area with his faux down-to-earth act. He's a white sock sales guy, who got lucky. Fair play to him for that, but other than selling more small-fry sponsorship to locals, what is he going to do? We already have white sock sales guys at the club who'd pimp their grandmothers given a chance.

I'm glad his name won't be on a stand and I think it's regrettable that the pervasive small town mentality means that he is somehow perceived as somebody who can make a contribution. Every time he's on TV I cringe - he sets us back.

As for the plumbers - some are suggesting they may have got a good deal due to nepotism. However, the fact is that in the Premier League if your pitch side advertising/sponsorship is anywhere but the three sides that form the TV arc, you've either wasted your money, or the ad is just a vanity package.

IanMcL wrote:Win-Win. Mr Fishwick - Dave to his friends - obviously had a reasonable deal stretching back some years, for his sponsorship of the Cricketfield stand. He was probably approached by the club to relinquish that sponsorship agreement, so they could make more money froma Prem league sponsor. To retain his exposure to the club and support for all to see, Mr F is asked to help increase or develop new revenue streams.

He retains his expected connection and also is able to help further.

Thanks Mr F. I have a lot of time for the man, having read his 'bank' book.
No way would club have approached him to relinquish his agreement. He might have found the cost of sponsoring a stand of a Premier League club a bit rich for his blood but that's his choice. He's put money into the club which I thank him for but he wouldn't of done it without the marketing that brought to his business, totally understandable.

All this wanting to help by buying shares and blah blah sounds like a load of nonsense to me though.

I'm sure that the Longside was once sponsored by Skippers Ford of Burnley. Or at least it used to have an advertising board on the roof of it? Early 90s I'm thinking

I don't know the why's behind it but he's a business man that likes to make money, the only problem is that shareholders don't receive any dividends at Burnley.

So what will be the benefit for him?

I could be wrong but it just seems like a load of hot air. Fair play to what he's achieved in terms of his business but meh to this in general

Although he's going to have to get a move on if he wants to be the youngest person in the world to own a bank. The guy who owns Monzo is in his early thirties.

No one was trashing his money put into the club when we really needed every penny and that day could come again. So I say thanks to him and let's see what he can bring. I don't think he has ever promised (and not delivered) compared with some of the Directors we have had.One never knows what ideas can come from folk-sometimes so obvious no one considered them before.

Exactly Mdd2. He put a rate of the time into the club. There is an opportunity for a much larger rate from our Prem status and matches going global. David Fishwick is big in Burnley not the world. He is doing his bit for the town in which he has made his name. Not sure football is his thing. He was just helping out.

I often wonder if visiting supporters think we had players called "James Hargreaves" & "David Fishwick"

Why wouldn't he ask the club for a new share issue and invest in the club properly if his reason for getting involved was to move us forwards?

He's probably paid for that stand a few times over, so I'm not sure what your problem is with him.

It's not "his stand" any more than the Bob Lord belongs to CWR Scaffolding.
