It has, you came back early. Now can you clear off and allow Burnley fans to discuss a new signing.ablueclaret wrote:It's been a dismal summer.

Happy with that. Keeper cover sorted. Just hoping for a centre half and one more before the window closes.
Re: ARTICLE: Goalkeeping cover arrives with signing of Adam Legzdins
Goalkeeping cover sorted. Some young ones out on loan for experience. Now to bring in some more outfield quality.

Re: ARTICLE: Goalkeeping cover arrives with signing of Adam Legzdins
Good deal, cover sorted with a decent standard keeper, who unless a crisis, can't expect to play too many games.
Now ideally get a centre back and a speedy winger and a good summer of business in my opinion.

Wow, just seen that we could have signed him for free a few weeks ago, and now we've paid a fee for him. Nothing like planning eh?

Some great quotes from May 2017:
“I am absolutely delighted (to stay at Birmingham) because everybody who knows me knows how much the club means to me.
“Coming back here again [in 2015] was a fantastic achievement for me and I want that relationship to continue for as long as possible.
“I have had other people contacting me. I think I represented myself very well last year.
“People have wanted me to consider their opportunities and offers but I am happy where I am. I still want to keep challenging myself at the highest level - and keep improving.
“I’ve had two seasons representing Birmingham City and I don’t want that to end. I want to carry on giving my all for a fantastic football club and city.

Who were people expecting us to bring in as 3rd choice keeper?
Must be difficult to convince someone to come and be number two to an England international never mind a number 3.

You've got that 100% wrong but don't worry, it gives you something else to beat the club up with.UpTheBeehole wrote:Wow, just seen that we could have signed him for free a few weeks ago, and now we've paid a fee for him. Nothing like planning eh?
Birmingham had a year's option and triggered it in May to ensure he could not leave for nothing.

He had offers from other clubs. If he'd have had an offer from us he wouldn't have signed that extension with Birmingham, only to leave 3 months later would he?

It's 100% something to beat the club up with. Legzdins was free to speak to other clubs, who could sign him for nothing had he agreed terms. We obviously didn't approach him.ClaretTony wrote:You've got that 100% wrong but don't worry, it gives you something else to beat the club up with.

Re: ARTICLE: Goalkeeping cover arrives with signing of Adam Legzdins
Irrelevant - option triggered on 27th May to prevent him going out of contract on 1st July. At no point in time was he available as a free agent.UpTheBeehole wrote:I think by May 27th we knew that Paul Robinson was no longer good enough to be a Premier League goalkeeper

Re: ARTICLE: Goalkeeping cover arrives with signing of Adam Legzdins
I think you've misunderstood the phrase "Blues decided to take up the option in his contract". It means that Birmingham decided to take up the option, not that Legzdins decided to take up the option. Legzdins didn't have a choice - it was in his contract which he signed in 2015, before Burnley were interested.UpTheBeehole wrote:He had offers from other clubs. Re: ARTICLE: Goalkeeping cover arrives with signing of Adam Legzdins
Yes, he was free to talk to other clubs but not free to sign for another club until 1st July. Once Birmingham triggered that clause, he was not available for free to any club from 1st July. That's how it works.UpTheBeehole wrote:It's 100% something to beat the club up with. Legzdins was free to speak to other clubs, who could sign him for nothing had he agreed terms. How were those other offers he speaks about presented to him then?

Re: ARTICLE: Goalkeeping cover arrives with signing of Adam Legzdins
He was free to discuss with other clubs and would have been able to leave for nothing on 1st July had Birmingham allowed his contract to run down. They didn't - they triggered the one year and that meant he remained under contract until 1st July 2018.UpTheBeehole wrote:How were those other offers he speaks about presented to him then?

We have similar one year clauses we can trigger for Brady, Defour, Gudmundsson, Westwood, Chris Long and Pope of the current first team squad.
Legzdins was obviously happy with it at the time but they've since signed a new first choice goalkeeper.

Re: ARTICLE: Goalkeeping cover arrives with signing of Adam Legzdins
Hi UTB, May 27th I'm pretty sure that we believed that Paul Robinson would recover from his back problem and would continue in his role as 2nd/3rd choice behind Tom Heaton. As we all know now, Paul Robinson's recovery didn't progress and, so he made the decision to retire.UpTheBeehole wrote:I think by May 27th we knew that Paul Robinson was no longer good enough to be a Premier League goalkeeper
Nick Pope is a good keeper - and will progress. I expect we will see him hold the number 2 position this season, though maybe Adam Legzdins will be able to push him hard for a position on the bench.
It's what all Premier squads need, 1st choice keeper - there is none better than Tom Heaton - a good 2nd choice keeper and a good 3rd choice keeper.
No one wants an injury to their 1st choice keeper to be the end of the team's season. I know nothing about Adam Legzdins; it appears that Sean Dyche has fixed our "3 keepers" challenge.

To me it implies that none of our existing goalkeepers, with the obvious exception of Heaton, will be good enough even for third choice.ablueclaret wrote:Get him part way to retirement.

They are young and in need of more playing experience. One of them is already an under-21 international. It implies to me that our existing goalkeepers are being given exactly what's required.boatshed bill wrote:To me it implies that none of our existing goalkeepers, with the obvious exception of Heaton, will be good enough even for third choice.

Re: ARTICLE: Goalkeeping cover arrives with signing of Adam Legzdins
Or maybe it means that in a couple of years, we might be back in the Championship with Heaton having moved on, Pope as number 1 and Legzdins as a decent back up option.boatshed bill wrote:To me it implies that none of our existing goalkeepers, with the obvious exception of Heaton, will be good enough even for third choice.
Or if we're still in the Premier League and Legzdins decides he wants to move on we get a fee for him rather than him moving on a free.
Seems good business all round to me.
