Huddersfield have done everything they can to replace him, and he was a bit-part player for them anyway. Mid table Championship at best.lrac wrote:Wells from town ?

Re: Gray to Watford story
No way is Gray worth £75k per week....... if Watford have agreed to pay this, then you'll have to excuse me whilst I nip upstairs to change my undercrackers, think I've pi$$ed myself laughing

Re: Gray to Watford story
Hey you've got a guaranteed 5+ goals per season for the next 5 years. Along with questionable moral character and a celebrity wag. Can't put a price on that!RookeryEnd84 wrote:Hi all, Watford fan coming in peace...
From what I've read so far, the general consensus seems to be you aren't too disappointed to see him go? From a WFC point of view, £11.5m for a player that has seemingly proved himself able to score in the PL is a great deal, and if it rises to £18.5m then he will have done enough to justify those clauses being activated. In a summer of crazy prices, it seems par for the course...
Does seem confusing that you've allowed him to come to us when we will be a team you are likely to be competing with but seems the offer couldn't be turned down...
Lastly, just to say don't lose heart - a week ago we were despairing as some of you are about our lack of signings - we only had Will Hughes and Chalobah and our defence and attack looked woefully short. In 2 days we have added a Brazilian wonderkid and Andre Gray and suddenly it all seems better. Hopefully Dyche does the business for you in the market between now and September to give you a chance. But it seems you will have to pay over the odds to get a striker just as you may think we have done...
Good luck for the season ahead!

He's got himself at least a £13,000,000 contract.
Well done.

The only concern I have with this is now the football world know we need another striker, that's their price gone up. Hope the board are brave enough to sink substantial funds into it

We'll have done well if we can sign a striker to score the required amount of goals for less than £30m.Vegas Claret wrote:The only concern I have with this is now the football world know we need another striker, that's their price gone up. Re: Gray to Watford story
Somebody recently posted the pre season article from the Guardian on this board and highlighted a few extracts.
One of the extracts pointed to our weakened defence following the sale of Keane and no adequate replacement signed.
Another extract pointed out that our attacking options needed beefing up but feared that any decent offer incoming for Andre Gray would see us that much weaker with a partnership of Vokes and Barnes failing to excite or score the goals needed for us to stay up.
If Gray had been sold a few weeks ago I am sure they would have had us rock bottom.

Well we managed to sign Danny (Ten PL goals in 2014) Ings for £1 million, Sam (10 PL goals last season) Vokes for £500k and Andre Horrible ex Burnley scumbag Gray who scored 9 x PL goals for £6 million rising to £9 million.HelloHiGoodbye wrote:We'll have done well if we can sign a striker to score the required amount of goals for less than £30m.
It's definitely do-able, you seem to be confusing price with goals - it is never that simple.

Re: Gray to Watford story
"Sky Sports News understands Brentford are owed 27.5 per cent of any fee in excess £9.75m that Burnley receive if Andre Gray is sold.
We also understand Luton Town are entitled to 15 per cent of that in turn.
It means if Watford sign Gray for £18m, Brentford stand to make £2.27m minus £340,500 Luton are eligible for."

Re: Gray to Watford story
Gray's short stint at Burnley has been mutually beneficial on and off the park.
We're banking a huge profit and it's not like the transfer window has minutes til it closes as could've been the case.
If the situation was reversed and we'd just paid the reported £18m for a striker going into the last year of his contract and one who got mixed reviews from the club's fans then I think I'd be more concerned tbh.
I'm feeling positive and I trust the board to produce.

Oh sure, it's not all doom and gloom whatsoever.Braindead wrote:Well we managed to sign Danny (Ten PL goals in 2014) Ings for £1 million, Sam (10 PL goals last season) Vokes for £500k and Andre Horrible ex Burnley scumbag Gray who scored 9 x PL goals for £6 million rising to £9 million.

Although Ings hadn't scored any Premier League goals when we bought him for a million. Neither had Vokes. Or Gray. I'm just saying, really we should be looking at a proven Premier League striker who can score double figures. Now, maybe we'll be savvy like Watford with Gray (contract.) If not, in this day and age, that signing can cost towards £30m. (Not that I think we'll actually spend that much.)

Re: Gray to Watford story
I said it on a few other threads but I had it on good authority in June we weren't averse to letting gray go. So I would be astounded if we didn't have a replacement sorted.

Re: Gray to Watford story
If it was announced that we had paid £18m transfer fee plus £75k per week for 5 years for a new striker, and that new striker turned out to be Andre Gray, would we think we'd got a bargain?
