I was speaking to an'ull fan last week, he said the only player they wouldn't want to lose would be Clucas.

He sounds like an upgrade on Arfield. No harm in looking to upgrade on existing players.

Re: Sam Clucas
Surprised to read that he is regarded as a 'winger' by some circles. Be quite useful if he can play anywhere across the midfield, including wing. I always thought of him solely as a midfielder. Not sure he'll offer much pace though.
Re: Sam Clucas
Nice feature of him on Hull's YouTube page from last season. Certainly seems like a Dyche player. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ASCpJzaEOA

Clucas. Meh. Especially at that fee.
There goes any hopes of a fast winger coming in!

The Grosicki ship sailed last year. When the club go public in saying he would not have been good for the dressing room then we are definitely not going to go back in for him.Safron wrote:Surely it would make more sense to go in for groseki

Re: Sam Clucas
If other clubs show an interest this could potentially scupper the deal, or certainly bump up the price tag,Hull may play the waiting game, put the news out that he is available, and see if anyone else bids,if the player digs his heels in and insists he wants to come to Burnley we should be able to get this one over the line, good signing even better if we get him for 8 million or less.jurek wrote:If we are serious about getting Clucas in then suspect Dyche
may wish to have sufficent players available to mix up the formation/starting eleven.
Wheter it be 4-5-1 or possibly 4-3-3 or even the tried and tested 4-4-2.
Clucas could play in any of those formations and probably is an upgrade on Arfield within a 4-4-2.
Not sure we are serious but given it's Burnley I suppose the iniital bid
of 5m was to be expected as was Hull's response.
Can't see then letting him go for less than 8m with fairly substantial add-ons.
Presumably we (the club/chairman) must also realise that Hull aren't going to let him go
unless it's an offer they can't refuse. Hopefully wages wouldn't be an issue.
Be interesting to see whether we come back with a better offer?
Probably 6m + add-ons which, no doubt, will also be turned down.
Or whether Clucas is interested.
There may well be one or two other clubs who may wish to have him
and wouldn't wish to lose out on him as I do beleive he could improve the team.

Never happening in a million years. Sky are becoming more and more unreliable. Clucas doesn't average over 13km per game which is required to fit in the Gaffer's system.

Re: Sam Clucas
Considering Hull have been having a fire sale since relegation, I'm sure if we are the only suitors he's ours.
I don't know enough about him to say what he's worth, but it sounds like he is a good steady player, adaptable, and fits into SDs style.
If he's good enough for Sean, I'd be more than happy with him.

Get this one done before we get gazumped by Newcastle
Re: Sam Clucas
Good, left sided midfield player. To compete with Brady???
Re: Sam Clucas
This would be an excellent signing, definitely need another body as Arfield isnt good enough anymore sadly, and JBG tends to pick up injuries. I think 10m will be enough to get him - whether we stump up the cash remains to be seen!
Re: Sam Clucas
Find these arfield comments baffling yes he's not the best but if I'm right didn't he help us secure our premier league status which again will be the aim this season. What are people thinking were going to fly in the top half all of a sudden with these dynamic wingers.BFC88 wrote:This would be an excellent signing, definitely need another body as Arfield isnt good enough anymore sadly, and JBG tends to pick up injuries. Sky Sports News reporting that Hull have tabled a bid for Oxford United winger Marvin Johnson.
Could this be a replacement for Clucas.

We definitely need to keep Arfield in squad and in case we go down. Why can't we sign anyone with pace ? Most teams in the PL have it in abundance.

Im not slagging him off, he's been excellent at Burnley and wholeheartedly agree he's been instrumental in our success the past few years, however we need better quality now and with money in the bank we should be striving for exactly that all over the pitch.KRBFC wrote:So you are wondering why others are slagging Arfield off but you just slagged him, interesting.
JBG and Brady are on another level as is Clucas.

Theres probably 10 players id go for ahead of him from the championship alone. Genuinely keep the money over spunking it on clucas.Vegas Claret wrote:Yeah, but like who ? You are saying there are plenty out there (and I agree) but who would YOU go for ?
If we want a midfielder whos limited on pace but can play anywhwre accross the middield but prefers the left id go for snodgrass over him. Id even sooner downing.
But id prefer someone quicker. Trickier. More direct. With an eye for goal.

Re: Sam Clucas
Yeah I understand what you are saying but I'm asking for names, a generic "10 better players in the championship" is a bit of a cop out tbh CC. I think Clucas is decent, I'm sure we could do better but I certainly can't really name names.cricketfieldclarets wrote:Theres probably 10 players id go for ahead of him from the championship alone. I hope we do sign Clucas. Very handy player who can play a number of different positions. Better still, he's got a fantastic attitude having worked all the way up through the leagues.

I have just been talking to a Lincoln fan who's down here in Shrewsbury for a wedding. It turned out he's good mates with sam , so I asked if there was any truth in the rumours. He's talked with dyche and definitely wants to come , it's just up to the clubs to agree on a fee .

Re: Sam Clucas
If we are going to be playing this 4-5-1 system, then another central midfield does make a little bit of sense. We've got the 3 who played yesterday, plus Westwood who is probably an alternative to Cork, plus Arfield who might be able to deputise for Hendrick as the furthest forwards of the 3. Clucas would give us 6 for the 3 roles (which is consistent Dyche's desire for 2 players for every position), and in particular someone who has the ability to do something similar to Defour in terms of moving the ball forwards quickly and imaginatively.
Re: Sam Clucas
Perhaps we are just going to play everyone in midfield!

I don't know if this is true or not but if it is then surely we would then be guilty of 'tapping up'.

Re: Sam Clucas
Can add mate who is a Lincoln fan and knows Sam Clucas to the list.
( I am not saying we wont sign him )
Only missing a Newport, Gillingham and Forest Green fan off the Burnley fan mates list, who happen to be in the know.
Missing Bradley Dack, Davis Forde and Antony Sarcevic off the players who are friends with fans list, so if anyone knows them, come forward now. ( although we are hoping not to sign them )
