If their valuation is 25 and they aren't prepared to accept less then I'll be absolutely amazed if anyone signs him.ksrclaret wrote:Seen quite a bit of Wood over the last couple of years living in Leeds. He's a good striker and last season an outstanding goal scorer. Much more of a Vokes than an Ings though which makes it hard to think he's what we need.
If Leeds' valuation is £25m then we're probably not going to get him.
Bid rejected for chris wood

Re: Bid rejected for chris wood
How SLOW does dyche want to make our team?
Re: Bid rejected for chris wood
Yet again another stupid pathetic low bid that enevitably gets turned down .thought we would stop penny pinching by now its embarrasing
Re: Bid rejected for chris wood
Not sure Wood is better than Vokes to be honest. At one stage he looked it, I think it was when Leicester beat us to end our hopes of winning the league. Since then Vokes has proven (especially last year) that he's a target man capable of getting goals at this level. My main concern is that even if he is better than Vokes (which is up for debate) his goal return is very unlikely to be much greater and I'm sort of scratching my head and trying to think why you'd want three forwards, Barnes, Vokes and Wood, who are all at a similar level and play a similar game. Not only does it make us very one dimensional, but it doesn't represent a "significant upgrade" which is what we need to push forwards and beat the drop again.
Few question marks over this and I'd definitely still be wanting a fast tricky attacking player, probably more so.

If we pay £25m for Wood I will beat Dyche around the eye area for a considerable length of time.

It'd absolutely not be a stupid pathetic low bid. If it's true it would be an entirely reasonable negotiating position. It's not embarrassing. As a broader point, I really do despair at some of the criticism aimed at the club. It's pathetic.

From 5th favourites earlier in the day behind Brighton and Huddersfield to EVENS to land Wood.
The markets don't always get in right by any means but just a guide to watch out for.

Difference between a low bid and a low bid with add ins.Safron wrote:Yet again another stupid pathetic low bid that enevitably gets turned down .thought we would stop penny pinching by now its embarrasing
If indeed there has been a bid.
If we are still shopping in this market and at these prices, for a sensible spending club, it's all very contradictory when there is better value abroad.

Leeds fans are furious and talking no chance of promotion if he goes. I suspect we will pay £15-20million. Think he scored 27 last year.

Not what we need. I can't understand how our European scout, can't find someone better, and cheaper. Has he suggested anybody at all, because I could sit on my arse and suggest nobody just as well as he can.....
Unless we get the likes of Danny Ings on loan, we aren't going to find what we need on this island, at the price and the wages suggested.

Re: Bid rejected for chris wood
Good player and has been better than I thought he was going to be for the last two seasons. I'd say valued more around £20million and there's a chance he could be allowed to leave if we get the lad from Hamburg to add to the others we've signed.
Would be an odd pairing for you with Vokes but it could work as they're just about different enough.
Don't want him to leave though and there seems to be a good atmosphere around the players at the minute with a good few signing longer deals.
Can't grumble too much if the money gets anywhere near the asking price though I suppose

It will be £20m initial rising to £25m. As I keep saying this is not unreasonable in TODAYS market!

A far lesser player than is required IMO, but shows the market you are shopping in.
Re: Bid rejected for chris wood
Pretty much sums it up for me. It would only make sense if we brought in Wood and another striker then sold Barnes/Vokes.DCWat wrote:Wood is better than Vokes, but isn't what we need.
Sign him and we still need another forward and then what of Vokes and / or Barnes. Strange.
Barnes, Wood, Walters, Vokes - feckinhell

It's crap. It's even more nonsense at £25m

Think Wood is ideal for a 4-5-1 lone striker, has a bit more about him than Sam.

Re: Bid rejected for chris wood
IF the 27 goals last season stat is correct then he's definitely worth a punt, but that was championship level, so £25 million sounds like someone pulling our pants down as they know we've got a pocket full of cash. £12/13 million tops or walk away, bearing in mind he seems very much like Sam.

Re: Bid rejected for chris wood
£25m ha hah ha. Barnes must be worth £20m and Sam £30m then. The world has gone completely bananas. Seriously, this is a joke. Makes £12m for JRod look like the deal of the millenium.
To be honest I'd rather we just stuck with what we have then buy someone who is exactly like 2 we have, when only 1 of the 3 is likely to be starting. Ings on loan is by far a better option, even if he is not ready until October.

Not for me. No better than what we have and the worrying thing for me here is that we have actually put a bid in for a player like Wood who has very similar strengths to what we already have.

Does anyone else think it's weird that Dyche couldn't get 4-5-1 to work even with one helluva striker playing as the 1 (Austin), yet that's what it looks like he's gearing up to a season in the Premier League with and with about 50 million quid more available to spend?

Re: Bid rejected for chris wood
Andre Grey got 23 goals in the championship 2015/16. Bought for 9m. Just sold for 18m
Wood scored 27 in the championship 2016/17. So an initial bid of around 12m is about right.
We bought Gray while we were a championship side. We're now in a 2nd season in the prem and other clubs know we've got cash and places to fill(especially after just selling Gray)
I rate and like Big Sam. And an Improvement on him. Is an Improvement. Especially if we bring in A N other with pace.
Grey's weeknesses have been well covered on here.
And who knows. In Wood, we could be getting a front man that actually has a good SECOND touch as well as first!

In our current squad the only "natural" finisher we have is Dan Ageyi. Don't get me wrong Barnes and Vokes are great players but can't offer the same as Wood. Wood can provide us with goals and can be used to fit any system whether we look to play long in behind or short to his feet.

Not a fan, putting aside the fact he is not the type of striker we need at all. Really odd, and really disappointing. We need pace badly in this team.

Would signing Wood mean goodbye Barnes? Can't imagine he'd get many opportunities with Wood and Vokes in the same squad.
