Custom cars from Canada
Custom cars from Canada
Who's got it and who hasn't... Have you got any examples? I'm interested to post this following an article in the Guardian about the Average White Band claiming them to be the real funk deal.

I had a ride in a Chevrolet El Camino (5.7 litre) around some very small French country lanes recently but I think that's Yank!
Re: Custom cars from Canada
I thought it was common knowledge that AWB were the real deal.

Re: Custom cars from Canada
Every North American manufacturer has multiple factories in Canada. Some just produce parts, and others are full-blown assembly operations. The city where I was born, Oshawa, Ontario, has been the home of General Motors of Canada since the 1920's. Oakville is a Ford town, and Windsor is mostly Chrysler, although all 3 have some sort of factory there. Alliston is home to Toyota, while Ingersoll has a Subaru (I think it is) factory. Auto production has been a large source of our wealth for a long time.
Re: Custom cars from Canada
I'm not sure AWB are the real deal. That's my second thought. EVERY custom car magazine I bought in the 70's had California as the mecca of it. They used to have the ad sections and and any car that was cr*p was inevitably from Canada, hence my comic prejudice. Hey they build cars in Russia, Ontario... Yeah and look what cars.

Re: Custom cars from Canada
American cars are completely crap anyway.
Ever been in a Dodge? The seats at the Turf are made of better plastic than the interior.
A Chevrolet? ditto.
A Canadian car couldn't possibly be worse.

Are they a band?
Re: Custom cars from Canada
There's crap cars made all over the world, it really depends how much money you spend. Don't expect a cheap Dodge to be anything but cheap.UpTheBeehole wrote:American cars are completely crap anyway.

American car's in particular though. Heaven forbid you needing to take a tight corner with their suspension. That said, when I drove to DC from New York in February, i rented a GMC Yukon XL and loved it.Ambrose wrote:There's crap cars made all over the world, it really depends how much money you spend. That was true in the sixties and seventies but today cars in the US are petty much the same as we have here.Foshiznik wrote:American car's in particular though. Re: Custom cars from Canada
The only true Canadian car was the Bricklin, which is what Marty McFly drove/flew in "Back to the Future". A Canadian actor (Michael J. Fox) driving a Canadian car. Seems about right

I think that you are talking about Ladas, Pstotto. They still have an office in Toronto, although they haven't been sold here for decades. Maybe it's a front for the KGB.

Actually, it was a DeLorean, made in Northern Ireland, that was in "Back to the Future".
