Re: Clarets to bid £20M for Wood
not sure this would be good for us...I mean, we dont know that he would settle in at a bigger club do we?
Re: Clarets to bid £20M for Wood
I think he's crap. I wouldn't pay 20 quid for him. He's no better than the strikers we have and couldn't hit a barn door

Certainly not crap, but not worth 20million either.
I'd like to see him sign, but there are other players out there, who are worth 20million, who would be a lot better acquisitions.

we sold a proven young international centre half for similar money....I like Wood for around 14 million in current climate but for 20 plus I just dont see us paying that and hope we dont.

Leading scorer in championship and still people moan and say he is no good. Don't forget Leeds were not in the top 6 which makes his record better.

leeds fans on twitter suggesting he has downed tools. Apparently he was walking around the pitch and sulking all match. Plus if anyone was watching Gillette soccer special tonight you would have seen him miss two absolute sitters.

I was actually talking about two of the worst misses you will probably see this season from a player we are linked to spending £20m on.
We can do a lot better for the money.

I understand he is a similar player to Vokes, but he scored 27 goals in a an average Championship team last season. Sam scored 20 goals in his great season with a brilliant partner in Ings.
So how can he manage to be so poor and score 27 goals?
When Sam joined us he was already becoming an ordinary journeyman and look how he's developed.

How many good seasons has Wood had in his career to date? I count 1 compared with Vokes' 3.
Leeds weren't an average side last year, they choked playoffs with 1 game to spare.
Wood played upfront on his own in a team built around him. As you say, Vokes had to scrap for goals with Ings/Gray next to him, stealing them.
HOW MANY PL GOALS? At the moment he is a Championship player. If he'd scored 27 goals in the Prem we would need to add another £80 million to our bid.
If you take away Wood's prolific goal scoring, Leeds were an extremely average team last season.
Vokes didn't have to scrap in his tremendous season alongside Ings, he benefited from having a great striking partner scoring 20 goals along the way.

I can kind of see your logic, but I hope not. He has a unique ability to wind up about every opposition player in the Premier League. He plays on the edge but boy does he rattle defences unlike any of our other players and we need that edge sometimes.Jambounchained wrote:I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see Barnes go in this window

Excellent signing if we can get him for £15 million. That's what Hogan and and Kodjia went for and they're not as good.

Its like swapping Andre Gray for Chris Wood plus cash. A horrendous deal in the cold light of day.

I can see him struggling to fit in a bit this season, but that being said even if we only bring in one striker this window it will only leave us with Vokes, Barnes, New and the pretty much untried Agyei.
If we go for say Wood and Andone then yeah, I think he might go.

Re: Bid rejected for chris wood
Yeah. I understand your point. One striker comes in I'd keep Barnes. If Wood and Andone come in, Barnes may be pushed out even off the bench. So it'd only be fair to let him look elsewhere, even if only on loan. Just depends who comes in. I'd send Agyei out on loan regardless, he needs proper game time and he won't get it with us yet.Jambounchained wrote:Don’t get me wrong I like him.

How many times does it need spelling out that you can`t compare the prices of players in long term contracts and those with a year left in their contact who can start to negotiate their free transfer in 4 months time on 1st January ?
Gray and Keane were both in this position and we still made £30m plus profit on them....aswell as both playing an integral part of our success in the last 2 to 3 years and helping secure our financial stability for many many years to come.
What exactly would you have done different with Gray or Keane ?.....they both turned down the best contracts we have offered any players in the history of the club.
It`s an easy job criticising everything the club does in the transfer market....lot harder coming up with an alternative.
It`s fine to have a different opinion on players etc but the constant sniping at the club is so tedious when you can`t put forward any rationale alternatives or options they had - especially with the Keane and Gray sales

Most Premier League clubs have 4/5 strikers so if we bought Chris Wood and Shane Long that's what we would have when you add in Sam Vokes and Ashley Barnes and Jon Walters is our /5 striker.
So why would we let Barnes go?

Where's the bit criticising the club? I mearly expressed an opinion. Regardless if Gray had a year left on his contract if we were to have done a swap deal with Wood plus cash it would have been a terrible deal.TVC15 wrote:How many times does it need spelling out that you can`t compare the prices of players in long term contracts and those with a year left in their contact who can start to negotiate their free transfer in 4 months time on 1st January ?

I can't profess to have seen an extensive amount of Chris play but what i have seen hasn't been great. Yes he can score goals in the championship at a club slinging balls into the box for him being a lone striker great, the premier league is different gravy.
Plus we are sorely lacking in pace we do not need another target man especially one who isn't as good as the one we've already got.
Re: Bid rejected for chris wood
Mmmm....when I`m seeing phrases like horrendous deal for the club then I normal equate that to criticism. Fair enough if you are not criticising them.Right_winger wrote:Where's the bit criticising the club? I mearly expressed an opinion. If that`s the case what are you saying ?
Saying "regardless if Gray had a year left on his contract" does not make any sense. The fact that he a year left on his contract is the key point...that`s why we "only" got £18.5m and the longer contract of Wood is why Leeds want so much for him. You cannot compare the prices of both players.
Sigurdson just went for £45m ; Arnoutavic for nearly £30m both because they were in long term contracts. Yet Alexis Sanches who was in same position as Keane and Gray they are talking £40m when he is clearly a much better player than both and would be nearer to £90m or £100m if he was in a long term contract.
Personally not seen enough of Wood to know whether he is worth this amount of money - it seems a lot from what I have seen of him and i would also prefer us to buy pace. But a centre forward who scored 30 goals in Championship and also has pace - not sure their is anyone about. Assombolonga maybe but we got outbid.

If Dyche wants Wood then that will do for me.
Re: Bid rejected for chris wood
From one football app....
There was another twist, however, as the Daily Star claim that Wood will reject the new contract in favour of sealing a move to Burnley.
It’s all very confusing but one way or another, it looks like Wood’s future will be resolved in the next few days.
