Birmingham City, Watford & Burnley have all made offers for Majeed Waris
Premier League duo Burnley and Watford, alongside Harry Redknapp’s Birmingham City, have all submitted offers worth more than €10m to FC Lorient for Ghanaian attacker Majeed Waris, according to Ouest France.
The situation is due to be resolved next week and the club with the highest bid will win Waris, provided that the former Valenciennes man agrees personal terms with said club.

If he's done his homework on Burnley, he'll know we are the club where he will develop. I think if Dyche really wants him, he'll get him.

With a work permit decision pending, you would think that playing in the national side was also a priority.
Still not impressed by the rumours associating us with this bloke. 9 goals and 4 assist in 35 matches for FC Lorient in their League 1 games last season is hardly prolific. Although he did better the season before with 11 goals and 3 assists in 21 matches. During his two years with Lorient his 11 performances as a left winger only generated 2 assist, but 4 goals.
I would like to see a pacey player that can create as well as score. His assist record doesnt give that impression and his performance record as a left winger isn't great. If we aren't bringing in a specialist winger will he be up to the job?
Rumours are rumours, but if his price is on the up and he is holding out until the end of the window we could find ourselves in a pickle. The more I hear the less I like him and the more worried I am that we are actually interested in him.
We need a pacey, creative forward (ideally someone who can play effectively on the wing as well). Bringing someone in on loan and looking again in the next window might be a better option if this guy is our hottest iron in the fire.
Reading some of the posts on this forum might lead a person to believe that we are rolling in cash, but I don't think we are. Granted, we have a healthy supply of dry powder. However, when you take into account staged payments and the contract clauses that may or may not pay out I don't think we have as much to spend as some people think. Should we spend in the region of 8-10m on this guy, plus his wages, that could very well be it for strikers in the forseeable future.
If we do sign him up I hope he turns out to be good enough to warrant our interest and he doesn't end up being a more costly version of Sordell, Jutkiewicz or Hennings. I'll leave out Vossen because I'm still scratching my head about what happened with his bizarre belgium boomerang transfer.
All told, if we don't have a super special secret iron in the fire, I think we should have addressed and sartisfied our need for a pacey creative forward much earlier in the window. Although, a lot can happen in seven days.

I think the number of pacey, creative players who are capable of scoring ten or so goals and providing a few assists in the Premier League, and who are not wanted by their clubs, is quite short.Long Time Lurker wrote:We need a pacey, creative forward (ideally someone who can play effectively on the wing as well). Indeed, dsr.
We've reached the stage in England where each PL goal scored is worth a huge amount of money (from the viewpoint of the vast majority of the population).

I would expect that rules them out and if Brum have more to offer than us, in finances and opportunity, I'll be gobsmacked.

I think it is more a case of putting your faith in the work permit appeal process.LoveCurryPies wrote:His stats don't impress but I have faith in Sean.
As other posters have noted he needs to have played 75% of the matches for Ghana in the last 2 years.
Since 24/08/15 he has played in 4 friendlies and 4 world cup qualifiers.
Source http://uk.soccerway.com/players/abdul-m ... is/122047/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; - may not be correct
By my reckoning, in the same time frame the Ghanaian team has played 11 Friendlies, 6 African Cup Qualifiers, 6 African Cup Games and 4 World Cup Qualifiers.
Taking out the friendlies (because they don't apply) he appears to have played in about 25% of the Ghanaian teams matches over the last 2 years, which is a little short of meeting the requirements.
https://stv.tv/sport/football/1392526-e ... to-the-uk/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
The work permit people can be a little fussy about these things as Raphael Dwamena and Brighton just found out.
http://ghanasoccernet.com/exclusive-bri ... uk-arrival" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Its also interesting to note that Raphael has been selected for the upcoming Ghanaian matches and he didn't feel the need to excuse himself from the honour of international duty to facilitate his transfer. Although this recently dropped article seems to suggest that my suspicion about Waris being excluded from the team because of his month long absence from training and no game time was closer to the truth.
http://ghanasoccernet.com/west-ham-burn ... -qualifier" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Hmm, how would Sean react to a player that turned up to training a month late with a smile on his face?
Even if he can play the media glimpses of his attitude are hitting all the wrong notes for me.

Re: Abdul majeed waris
Was there speculation that Andone could possibly be sold if Deporvito were able to prise Perez away from Arsenal? Rumour today suggests that Perez could be on his way back to Deportivo in a 14m deal. He seems very unhappy at Arsenal. That may make things more interesting. Watch this space.

Naw. Its the wonderful world of transfer rumours. Everything you read is to be taken with a pinch of salt. However, the rumours do serve a purpose as jump off points to promote discussion.BabylonClaret wrote:I thought they already had secured a season loan for him with a perm deal next summer?
A player is never signed until you see the picture of him holding up the shirt. No shirt holding, he is still in play.
So Perez and Andone are still potentially in play.

Re: Abdul majeed waris
The prices being mentioned in the rumours surrounding Waris are high for a speculative punt and his attitude looks very questionable. I suspect that the vast majority of the rumours surrounding him are being generated by his club or his agent. He wants a move, the club want him gone and both parties are trying to inflate the price and contract for a player that nobody is really interested in, apart from us (possibly).
Looks like a bad egg and from the footage I've seen, along with his playing stats, he doesn't look like a player worth anywhere near 10m (and like all highlight reels the constituent clips have been cherry picked to present him in the best possible light). Overpriced, questionable attitude and work permit hassles, with nothing to suggest that he has the potential to be anything more than a squad player at best.
Diego Rolan could offer us a similar skill set and the same positional flexibility. Rolan has a lot more experience playing as a winger than Waris, which is where I would look to slot him into the team at first. He is predominantly referred to as a centre forward or support striker, but he doesn't seem to be physically imposing enough to lead the line on his own.
However, at 5m (which is the accepted bid that Fulham are rumoured to have placed) he is more in line with what I would consider to be a reasonable price for a speculative punt, but I'm not sure that he can speak English which could be a bit of a problem. If he doesn't work out I could see us making that back on him from a Championship club. From what I've read he also seems to have a very good team attitude. The type of player that is happy to place the requirements of the team ahead of his own personal glory or positional preferences, to the point of playing out wide and back tracking to do the defensive work that other striker/wingers might not.
http://outsideoftheboot.com/2015/06/17/ ... rica-2015/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I suspect he will sign a new contract with Bordeaux if he hasn't received any interest from a better team than Fulham before he leaves for Uruguay this weekend. A six month loan with a 5m option to buy could be a low risk option for us and the player that could work out well. At the very least it would gives us a viable player to take us up to the next window, the time to evaluate him at little cost and the freedom to avoid any last minute cash splurges on dubious players wanting long term contracts.
https://translate.google.co.uk/translat ... rev=search" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I was surprised that Tom Lawrence went to Derby for 5m without attracting any interest from us. He could turn out to be a good buy for them at that price. And I still hold that Sam Larsson for 3.5m was a player we should have shown some interest in as another speculative purchase at a low price.

I'm all for folk doing their research on players we're linked with, but this seems to me like a lot of extrapolation from very limited sources.
And it ignores the fact that in the Dyche era, we've never done panic buying and we've certainly never gambled on plsyers where Dyche isnt convinced of their attitude.
Waris is the right sort of player for us to be interested - abs the record of quick, direct players transferring from the Franchise league to the Premier League is pretty decent.
If we sign him, worth keeping an open mind, i'd say.

Re: Abdul majeed waris
Absolutely, if we do sign Waris he will have my full support the moment he puts on the shirt. The club sign the players Sean wants and we give them our full support, thats our job (even though we might forget to do it sometimes).claretspice wrote:
If we sign him, worth keeping an open mind, i'd say.
But until we sign him I will softly whistle in the wind about my reservations, although I won't post anything more about them because I think I've said all I have to say

If he was Pele, I would not be concerned. He is definitely not!Bin Ont Turf wrote:We've got one of the best man managers in the business.
Defour didn't have a Dyche temperament, now he does.
If Waris signs then Dyche will make him feel like Pele.

"Quoting" from the FCLorient forum here are a few comments:
25th Jul: "Majeed Waris should have been back from holidays on Monday. He hasn't been see at Lorient"
"The bloke has the IQ of an oyster, the sooner he goes the better"
"Maybe the club agreed to him not coming back, but either way he's a good player but a complete muppet"
"Mercenary"
"I can't see why you're all insulting him, he was one of the few who put in a shift last season.
One of our best players, even if he didn't help the cause that much.
I imagine that his position has been clear to the club for a while, that he wouldn't go down a league"
"One of the few who belonged in D1, if we'd had more like him we wouldn't be where we are now"
"I don't know how you can say he had a good season, he sulked until November, had a three month purple patch and then was inconsistent for the last 15 games. I'm disappointed with the end product considering how talented he is. Too individualist."
Apparently he played better as a number 10 or a winger than up front on his own which is not surprising as he's only 5'8".
They talk of him having a winning mentality which some saw as arrogance and they also talk about him sulking instead of getting his head down and working hard when things weren't going well, immaturity and difficulty integrating with the team.
Not exactly the sort of views I'd expect of a player who's going to fit in with the group at Burnley.

Sounds like he needs a good slap and a month of Dyche discipline.

Re: Abdul majeed waris
Just heard on one of the main French radio stations that Waris looks bound for Burnley (the journo who said is a transfer market specialist from France Football).

What are you doing randomly listening to french radio stations? If you live in France - ignore the question.ecc wrote:Just heard on one of the main French radio stations that Waris looks bound for Burnley (the journo who said is a transfer market specialist from France Football).
