Have we risen so high, or have they sunk so low?

Post by RalphCoatesComb » Thu Aug 24, 2017 6:05 pm

The gulf between the Classy Clarets and Venkys Victims has grown into a chasm. But, is it a marker of how far we have come under Sean Dyche, or how low the Barstewards have fallen under the paymasters from Pune?

Outclassed by a poor prem sides reserves. I'd say we've sunk pretty low.

The beautiful thing is the answer is both.

That it has happened in parallel is quite remarkable.

Definitely both. Let's hope the venky's stay in charge for a bit longer. utc

You surely know how far we have come? Blackburn for me have sunk back to where they were in the seventies and equally we have risen back to where we were in the seventies.happy days never thought I would see it. And what a legendary manager we have in Sean dyche.

Absolutely both. The quality of our side last night measured against the state of the Rovers side emphasised just how far apart we are.

Two clubs going in exactly the opposite directions right now.

I remember when we drew them in the cup when we lost in extra time.

I said the gap was slowly closing. We were almost there. Then to get them in the premier league it had closed almost completely. I couldnt have hoped for better than that.

But we have progressed beyond belief since. And all through our hard work.

From 1987 onwards we have grafted. Spent relative peanuts and returned to where we belong through spirit, hard work, skill and of course a bit of luck.

They on the other hand bought their way to the top table and spent even more on a mismanaged fall back down.

We should continue to pull away now if we carry on being managed how we have. Lets not be blinded by the cash and make sure we still buy players predominantly cut from the Dyche and kilby cloth.

For the record, I believe its very tough now to break into even the top 8 now without very high investment. Rovers did what they did under jack and later his trust just at the right time. I don't think it would be possible anymore.

And still Saxo comes on?? Our reserves just paddled past your lot. You didn't even manage a shot on target. I heard that Dyche demanded the team coach stop at Gawthorpe on the way home so the players could go and have a workout!!
Your second club is in far worse shape than I realised it was. You still come on here trying to wind people up. You have more front than pound shops in East Lancs.
I know that tables can and sadly eventually will turn, if you still have a club that is. Another 5 years of Venkys and I think your gates will shut permanently. Blackburn Rovers FC are on a very dangerous downward trajectory.

I'm a bit wary about Venky's staying on at Blackburn - I think we'd be better off if they left. They're still sugar daddies, Blackburn still have one of the more expensive and highest paid squads in their division. I think it's time for Venky's to go, and Blackburn to try (for the first time for thirty years) to get by without a rich individual pouring millions into the club every year.

What worries me is that Venky's might suddenly discover a bit of competence, or at least that they might realise that they're clueless and appoint someone to run the club who knows what he's doing. They're still a generous, rich moneybags owner.

I think as referenced above the difference between the two clubs is our slow-build back to the top without the aid of a rich investor. Those years of experience are very influential in terms of the way the club is run and we are now in the business of future-proofing. The short term aim is probably to follow the Stoke/West Brom model and transition from a yo-yo club to an established presence in the PL and take it from there.

Rovers - right place, tight time. Meteoric rise funded by Walkers' millions before that kind of investment was commonplace. Victims of their own success in a sense as the bigger clubs followed the same lead and were able to sustain it. Rovers had not gone through what we went through to get back so were ill-equipped to halt the slide when things started to go wrong. Falsely inflated income in the Championship stops clubs dealing with the reality of their situation. One (or more) bad appointments/decisions and the inevitable slide continues. No easy way back from there.

It would be interesting to see a graph of the Clarets and rovers league placing v time since we gained promotion to the championship in 2000. Burnley have steadily risen up the order while rovers declined. At some point we crossed over, continued to progress while they went in the opposite direction.

I think the Burnley board have been a huge factor is keeping within budget. We've had good managers over those 17 years and some cracking players who got us to where we are today. It's been a unified effort at team and club level.

Rovers have squandered the legacy jack walker put in place. Poor decisions on buying players, hiring managers and a board that is so remote it's no wonder why they are in the mess they find themselves. All that combined with relegation from the top flight, the loss of Sky money etc led to their downfall.

At some point? The moment venkys bought the club. We finished the previous season 10th under Sam allardyce.

It almost felt like bullying last night.
I've never been one to kick a man when he's down.
There may have only been 11,000 Rover's fans there last night, but I give them credit for turning up for what I suspect they knew was going to happen.
Their support is getting down to bare bones, but I respect the ones that still turn up.....I followed Burnley through the 4th division days.

If you want to walk with the big dogs, you can't p1ss like a puppy.

You can't say we will never win the premier league, yet claim you have.

If you're talking top divisions, then fair enough, you edge it by 1, but don't make statements that are not true, you can't have it both ways.
