Gayle is a great championship player, I don't think he's premiership. I certainly wouldn't swap him for Ash, even though he would offer something different.
I also doubt Ash would suit Rafas style of football.

File under rubbish.

I can see why we could be interested. However, I think SD would prefer to bring in Shane Long as he is proven in the PL.

Can see the logic in this rumour, given our well publicised attempts to sign Gayle in the past. I don't think the Newcastle fans would be overjoyed even given their supposed interest in Barnes - don't see this being anything but 2+2= 5 rumour

I love Ashley Barnes but I'd take such a swap in a heartbeat.

Gayle has an impressive goals scored record in the PL based on minutes played.

2013/14 season he played 892 mins but got 7 goals.
2014/15 season he played 1096 mins and got 5 goals and 2 assists.
2015/16 season he played 771 mins and got 3 goals and 1 assist.

Keep in mind that if a player plays every game in a PL season then they play about 3000+ minutes.

That's not a bad return on limited playing time. He'd offer us something different and that's before we mention what was a fantastic season in the Championship for him last season.

Agree 100 percent. I like Barnes but would take this swap on the basis we already have plenty of big physical strikers.
