I for one think all swearing or mocking in general should be outlawed in football games. In fact, singing in general should, too much potential for upsetting people. People should be able to sit there for 90 minutes without having to make loud noise and try to put down our friends on the other team.

I think some, yourself included, mistake people disliking something with them being upset or offended by it. There's quite a difference.

Are you all upset and offended by the people who find the Jack Walker chants distasteful?

Singing creates atmosphere. Wednesday night was brilliant because of the singing and the buzz around the stadium.

Clearly it's crass, tasteless and intended to be so regardless of the desperate spin that some people try to put on it. Of course, it won't stop because all football crowds contain a large enough contingent of crass, tasteless people combined with a load more who will just go along with it because they're too dumb to realise how crass & tasteless they are being.

The argument that some Rovers supporters sing equally moronic songs so our supporters are justified in following suit is pretty much at the 'he hit me first' level I expect of my pre-school kids and any adult seriously rolling that one out might want to give their head a bang.

Before anyone starts with the whole snowflake angle, I'm not offended about it, it doesn't make me cry myself to sleep. I just find it very disappointing that people still feel justified in acting like morons purely because they are at a football match.

If fans aren't being criticised for the type of songs they're singing, they're being criticised for getting the words wrong. If not that, then they are sniped at for singing to fast.
It would appear that some fans are unhappy about other fans for getting being a fan just quite wrong.

The atmosphere generated by the Burnley Fans on Wednesday night was just electric. Flares aside, some of the chanting was a touch off-colour, but it all added to a very noisy Darwen End and a pretty shell shocked rest of the Stadium. We've got precious little to complain about at the moment if this is all we can find to gripe about.

The Rovers fans don't insult Bob Lord, and he put a Bob or two into our club.
Wish Jack Walker had been a Claret. All those Millions he gave away to his club.
I for one respect the man.

Absolutely. I think it's disgusting. I've never joined in with this chant and I never will. Anyone who joins in with any chants about the dead (whether that be United fans re Hillsborough, Liverpool fans re Munich or our fans re Jack Walker) should take a long hard look at themselves.

WHAT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Bob Lord put into the club ??????? How when was it a free pie or something. To compare the two is ludicrous. Lord had this club on its knees and was getting insulted by us trying to get him out.
Walker put cash into the club he supported fair enough but this oh I respect him FFS did you not endure the gloating of the bstards fans for all those years ? A lot of other clubs also detest them for their we have loads of money songs etc etc.

Lots of chant are cringeworthy but if it lets fans let off steam and creates atmosphere does it really matter. Far too many easily offended flowers these days. Better off attending a sewing club or dancing classes or something similiar. If you are easily offended you should be nowhere near a football ground.

"Football is like panto for adults" said one columnist some years ago about distasteful songs. You'll always get songs which try to get a rise out of the opposition.

When Rovers sang about Ben Lee, or when they sing about incest (which is illegal), they are doing it for the same reason our fans sing about Walker. It's all to get a rise out of the opponent, and the more Rovers fans complain (they haven't this time to be honest, as they're more bothered about their situation), the more Clarets sing it. Crappy hatchback lad is only on here to see if we can argue between ourselves.

When Venky's disappear, and Rovers fans continue not to make a deal about it, our fans will stop as it's not getting the response they crave. I'm sure something else will replace it though.

It doesn't bother me though, as I see it as The King is Dead, Long Live the King. They had a generous owner, and now they are stuck with Venky's.

I don't think it is particularly offensive.

In poor taste yes, and I don't sing along with it, but no Rovers fan is really going to be that arsed by it, just like we aren't bothered about the inbred dingle jibes.

Some chanting is wholly unacceptable such as racism.
Other chanting is in poor taste such as ' Burnley is wonderful ....'. The latter will never be prevented so you either choose to ignore it, be offended every time you go on or stay away IMO.

Rovers fans are all over fb mocking other dead people, so don't worry about hurting their feelings.
Yes it needs to stop, but it's part of the culture of football presently and unfortunately.

2-4-6-8 Who do we appreciate? Burnley!

Now that's the kind of song we need! A real terrace classic from back in the day.

Seriously I think that people really do look to be offended. Football fans come from all walks of life. We don't live in a World where everyone is perfectly educated and is middle class.

If the chant upsets you then don't put yourself in an environment where you are likely to hear it.

The fact you don't understand why songs like this are sung means you are not quite as bright as you may think you are.

The world is PC crazy, yes its not in the best taste but we are at a football match singing and winding the opposition fans up its what has happened for years and will happen for years to come.
Why someone is braindead just because they sing this song is quite laughable.

There is always the opportunity to write to the Chairman asking for a supporters section where people can sing good wholesome songs or take earmuffs in if they would like to watch in silence or the muffle the offensive or rude chants.

I cannot believe some of the idiocy on this thread. Trying to kid yourself that just because you are at a football match means you are somehow allowed to be racist, homophobic, or make light of someone being dead is inexcusable. Yes, some people do get easily offended these days, or think they should be offended even though they aren't sure why. But would you say these things person to person, face to face? Or is it just because you are in a large group? It's mob mentality. By all means, enjoy the banter and wind up other fans with thoughtful songs and little jibes. We have plenty of songs for that to create atmosphere. The best atmospheres are created by fans going head to head. But do not for one minute think that being at a football match is any excuse to act like mindless idiots. As Burnley fans, you are representing the club. And quite frankly I think it's disgusting that people don't care about the sort of effect this has on the younger fans in the ground. Some comments on this thread are shameful...

You are over thinking it Dazzler.

Sociology is a fascinating subject. You are too busy being offended rather than looking at, and accepting, that people behave differently to you depending on their background and social standing.

Chanting a few naughty songs at football is so far down on the scale it's nearly dropped off the bottom.

Burnley is a rough northern town with its fair share of rough northern folk. That's not the fault of the people that is the fault of society.

Don't deprive people of opportunities and then slag them for not behaving as you think they should do.

How would we feel if one of our directors or chairman suddenly died and Blackburn supporters suddenly started making fun of the situation I bet many on here would be up in arms.

It's a sad state of affairs that many on here find it highly amusing that Jack Walker died of cancer, but there you go.

I'm guessing that songs about the wives of Emlyn Hughes, Elton Welsby, and Simon Garner would be off-limits too??

Chanting a few naughty songs at football is so far down on the scale it's nearly dropped off the bottom.

Burnley is a rough northern town with its fair share of rough northern folk. That's not the fault of the people that is the fault of society.

Don't deprive people of opportunities and then slag them for not behaving as you think they should do.
I reckon it's you that's overthinking it. We're talking about a basic level of decency here (or the lack thereof.) Since when did that require a university education and and a middle class lifestyle?

I am a former 'foul-mouthed' squaddie but wherever I was posted I not only represented my country but also my town and football club of which I consciously proudly represented with some decorum.

Anyone who is singing those songs about him.

How can you have sympathy otherwise?

It's a sad state of affairs that many on here find it highly amusing that Jack Walker died of cancer, but there you go.

But sadly, that's how it is these day!
It may sound harsh but I pretty much wouldn't bat an eye. If that person was a family member or friend then I would be upset by it but would be expecting it and would deal with it accordingly.

I think you want to be offended on other people's behalf.

Don't be.

Going back to the old Longside the songs that used to be sung will make what I can only imagine the newbies being offended by a chant
Yes I know it's a different era now but football will always have a high volume of passion I love hearing what ever it maybe it's only a game then you go home some time ago it could have been with a brick in the head
Even at kids level these people just have a walk up a park and listen to the parents from the sidelines
It's not a place for a clergyman I can tell you I have even seen fights on the sidelines it's passionate it's the beautiful game it's football banter if you take heart out of a chant go to church and sing in a choir or sumert
