I don't meant to be rude but the chances of me and you having a conversation over a couple of beers seems highly unlikely to me.

Genuine question for the sandal wearers.......

Would it be different for you if the words 'is dead' were changed to 'has gone'?

Question to Macca, Marlon, BOT and Macca. Would you chant about Ben Lee if you were a Rovers fan? Genuine question. Don't hide behind the "I'd never support that **** blah blah". Yes or no

Firstly I haven't chanted about anything.

Secondly, did Ben Lee build us up as a club with money, which helped us to be the Champions of England and spend years and years above our rivals?

Thirdly, did the successor to Ben Lee sack manager after manager and take us down two divisions which has resulted in us not winning a derby match for years?

Sensational amounts of ******** being talked on here. Let's try and bring it a bit closer to home for the hard of thinking. It's probably safe to say that we all have friend and relatives who have died. It's probably also safe to say that there would be people around who disagreed with / disapproved of those friends or relatives.

Would we all be happy with people wandering past our houses singing entirely factually accurate songs revelling in their passing and how they are much happier with circumstances since they passed? Of course we wouldn't. So why pretend that being in a football stadium changes the boundaries of decency to such an extent?

A lot of people here seem to be revelling in being called out for behaving like dicks. It really is beyond juvenile, and it's nothing to do with education / social standing / any other lame excuse you might want to throw in there.

Ironic that a post beginning "Sensational amount of ******** being talked on here" should contain such a sensational amount of ********.

My father died 11 years ago. If somebody walked past my house singing about it, I would think it was very strange behaviour, but it wouldn't cause me to lose any sleep. However if my father had been the vastly wealthy owner of a football club who had bankrolled years of otherwise unattainable success, and the supporters of a rival club chose to celebrate - inside a football ground - the fact he wasn't there anymore, I would neither lose any sleep nor think it was particularly strange.

Your assertion that, in the circumstances we're talking about, being in a football stadium doesn't change anything is, I'm afraid, "sensational ********".

Oh ffs. I can see the future....... no it's not the singing section ..... it's the bloody snowflake section!!, for those sensitive souls, picture this they are in their own cordoned off section, with headphones on to drown out the singing by the fans, so they don't get offended. Prior to the match they are sensitively and carefully informed that some scenes they may find to be distressing. The section has automatic shutters at the ready in case a supporter goes on to the pitch, the shutters will come down in a split second to protect them from the distressing scene. They will be a soft caring, sensitive and supportive voice in their headphones just prior to half time explaining about the price of Twix's to try and avoid them being triggered. And if the result doesn't go their way they will be offered counseling and support before they go on their way home.

F me - nearly 250 posts on this thread.

The song is just a factual little ditty about the sadly deceased previous owner of our local rivals. Nobody can deny that Jack Walker is dead - and that we would like the Venkys to live long and continue their sterling work.

Now everybody shake hands and let's end the thread.

Nonsense

We all have the ability to measure right versus wrong. Something's there are grey areas, sometimes crossing the line or not will differ, but society and the environment are merely tools that gently mould us, they do not define our moral compass. Some right and wrongs are absolute. Many depend upon the situation we find ourselves in. Some things are deemed socially acceptable in certain environments, but deemed morally unacceptable within the wider world.

But the question of right and wrong can sometimes be very simple. Does the action cause more harm than good? Mocking the death of an individual to taunt others... I'm struggling to find the virtue in this

And I think I'll leave it at that. After reading this thread I think I have lost faith in humanity

As a self-confessed sandal wearing tree hugging snowflake, it hurts my delicate sensibilities to agree with so many people who use terms like "PC gone mad" without irony, but I genuinely buy the "the king is dead" argument. Doesn't the song essentially laud JW as a great benefactor, given that his beloved club's fiercest rivals are celebrating the end of his era?

I mean, I wouldn't sing it at his funeral or anything, but I reckon if I was related to him, I'd be really proud that us lot are still singing about him after all these years.
