Re: Sky reports that's probably it!
Happy with the window, I feel Taylor, Cork and Wood have improved us. Wells is an adequate Gray replacement, so it just leaves CB where I feel we are woefully short if hit by form, injury or suspension. I'm happy otherwise though.
Given we have been bitten twice now in this way, losing Marney right after deadline day and having no replacement thus forcing Arfield out of position, I would be surprised if Dyche allowed this to happen again. At least in Long we have some cover, albeit unproven.

Re: Sky reports that's probably it!
Long can do a job if needed. We are an injury and a suspension away from having Long and Taylor in the centre which will not be good enough IMO.

Not entirely everyone, just those gullible enough to believe a fan and his source.gandhisflipflop wrote:I take it you didn't see the thread a few years back where he single handedly ****** off the entire claretsmad messageboard never to be seen again.
Cork has enabled Defour and Brady to shine so it's an excellent 'tweek' despite being one signing. Taylor and Wood look like great options.Right_winger wrote:We e only signed 1 player who was an improvement on what we had. That player is Jack Cork.
For me, this is close but no cigar to being excellent recruitment. Just need that damn CH.

Everton just signed a Croatian winger. Does that free up Lennon?

Does Boden actually know anything?

Lennon is going nowhere on loan - he can leave on a permanent deal or he's staying put.

Re: Sky reports that's probably it!
I am a little concerned that we haven't signed a centre half but i think folks need to get a handle on the fact that Dyche seriously rates Tarkowski and trusts him enough to become Keane's replacement.
He also rates Kevin Long enough to have recently awarded him another lengthy contract.
I'd trust Dyche's judgement in the central defence area more than anywhere, given his journey as a player and his obvious leaning to building our framework from the back.
People keep talking in terms of like for like replacements but I think Cork's procurement also has a relevance to the shape of the team and the defensive situation.
He wasn't there when Long and Tarks were thrown together at the end of last season. The balance of out midfield is SO much improved from last season, Dyche might feel a fourth specialist CH is less necessary than cover elsewhere in the team. And I think you can add Cork to the list of players who could play at the back if a certain situation presented itself, he reads the game well enough and has played there on the odd occasion at so'ton (a la Danny Blind at United).

Ashley Young....
Re: Sky reports that's probably it!
This is Burnley, the plane will be fogbound so nobody will be winging in last minute

Where did you get that from? I don't rate Young for United but would be an excellent signing for us.jedi_master wrote:Ashley Young....

We were the walking wounded in the final few games, a tad fatigued.

Should have added a question mark KRBFC, just spitballing any potential name in my head. He doesn't seem to get a kick anymore, would be a great loan for us.KRBFC wrote:Where did you get that from? I don't rate Young for United but would be an excellent signing for us.

Re: Sky reports that's probably it!
There are some very complacent people on this thread or are they just happy clappers? How anyone can think that we don't need a cb capable of starting if Tarks and Mee are out is simply staggering. Come on - people thinking that full backs and midfielders will do as proper cover. Maybe in a single game if things go wrong - but for a minimum of half a season - really?
Why take the risk - Is it a mindblock for Sean?
I just don't believe Sean is that daft. Still 2 hours to go.

Boden confirms we're not after Montero, before confirming Lennon is dead in the water and he was the one we were after.

Boden and Geldard both just stated Lennon deal off, now attempting to pull a rabbit out of the hat.

Below would say that lennon was always unlikely and another winger being worked on.

Deal back on for a CB and a tentative winger which could be an eye opener.

Maybe, I'm not interested in trying to pull the bloke apart for doing his job. He probably knows as much as the club wants him to know.Tall Paul wrote:Or it might say that he's making it up as he goes along.
I was just pointing out that the winger we were working on and lennon appeared to be different deals. Someone had reported Boden as saying lennon was off so lights going off but IF he was to be believed then you would assume from his first post the other deal is still being worked on.
Transfer deadline day fun.

I think the key to the CH conundrum was Taylor being tried in that position preseason

Re: Sky reports that's probably it!
I share concerns about the need for a CH to challenge / cover Tarkowski and Mee, but other than that I think it's been an excellent window.
What some people fail to include in their assessment of the window is that we managed to retain Heaton, who is key, and that it would appear that we have a "new" player in Defour.
Few predicted that he would stay at Turf Moor. Not only has he stayed, but it would appear that he is now integral to our plans in a strong mixture of centre midfield players. What would it have cost to replace Heaton and Defour?
Retaining Heaton and Defour must therefore be included in our transfer business (IMO)
