Inflated transfer fees- blame brexit!!!

Post by RingoMcCartney » Fri Sep 01, 2017 2:08 pm

According to Tim Farron, MP and Blackburn fan, the record amount of cash being thrown about on transfers is all down to Brexit!

I did hear that the pound dropped to below the euro in the week.... didn't actually check it though.

He mentions that lot in the article!

"“I do recognise as a Blackburn Rovers fan this has affected my team less than some this year – but this is yet another reminder of the real cost there is to Brexit.”

Aah. So perhaps it's **** all to do with brexit and the fact that, thanks to tv deals etc, etc,. There's never been as much money in football as there is now!? And teams, like your shower, further down the pyramid, have to cut their cloth accordingly.

What a desparate desparate Remoaner

It's like me saying I can't support Burnley anymore because the little green men living behind my radiator told me wearing Claret is bad.

Sadly he's correct.
Andone at €18m would have been £12.5m pre-Brexit, yesterday it would have been £17.3m.
I'd think at the earlier figure we could have tempted him with salary.

It doesn't take much working out really.
Buy within the UK and £1 is still £1, but as "piston" correctly points out, a player valued by his club at 20 million Euros costs us a hell of a lot more in fees etc., than he did 18 months ago, and probably puts him beyond our reach.
It's a fact that there aren't the same bargains to be had in Europe that there were.
I wonder how low the pound will actually sink before we've finished?

Ringo says: Farron says the inflated fees are "all" down to Brexit.
The Belfast Telegraph says: Farron says some European to Britain transfers have been inflated. (this is obvious)

As usual Ringo is full of ****.

So let me get this straight. Neymar goes from Barcelona, a city in Spain, to Paris St.Germain, who play in a city in France for a transfer value of £198 million and this is due to Brexit?

No. You clearly haven't read the article and based your post entirely on what Ringo said, and that's really dumb. Unless did read it and you're mocking Ringo and not Farron.

Did anyone say that?
Certainly Farron didn't in the linked article. He actually gave estimated figures for transfers to the UK from within the EU.
Did you read the linked article?
Not entirely sure why Farron felt a need to raise the issue, but he's right.

No I didn't read the article, but have read it now. So basically the point of it is due to the fall in the value of Sterling in other words a higher exchange rate. Very illuminating.

So for only reading the op headlines I prostrate myself at your feet in grovelling apology, whilst Tim Farren can just get stuffed.

I agree with you over point one. As I implied in my post, Farron's only stating the obvious.
No grovelling required. Ringo misrepresented the article and you took him at face value. A lesson learnt maybe? ;)

So all the Remoaners, like sheep, swallow the lie that we, and many other premier league teams, have broken our transfer fee record cos of brexit!?

Nothing at all to do with the game being awash with cash, and selling clubs knowing that, simply raise their asking price!!!

For example - We paid £15 million for Wood from Leeds. Now given leeds is a city located in mainland Yorkshire how did sterling's value have any effect at all!?

Remoaners - willing to fly in the face of reality, if it means there's a chance of having a pop at brexit!!

The Brexiteers have clearly not read the article - perhaps they only understand figures when they are written on the side of a campaign bus. An extra £350m a week for the NHS blah blah blah

The article which is the subject of this thread says

THE PARTY BASED ITS FIGURES ON A PLAYER BEING SIGNED FROM A EUROPEAN CLUB WITH THE TRANSFER PAID IN EUROS.

Unless Leeds asked for the Wood fee to be paid in euros your comments are baseless and irrelevant.

I'd say the increased transfer fees in Europe are not clearly the fault of Brexit, but its certainly playing a part in the fall of the value of the pound.

So lets get this clear. You say that "nobody" has said our transfer record as been broken because of Brexit. But you also say that people are swallowing the lie that our transfer record has been broken because of brexit.

How can people be swallowing a lie that nobody is telling?

Stop trying to pin something else on Brexit and accept that there's never been as much money sloshing around in football and It's reflected in transfer fees. It's not rocket science it's not political, it's simply common sense.

I'm saying Tim Farron is claiming it.

"Liberal Democrats have said.

The fall in the value of sterling since the EU referendum has meant Premier League teams have paid out an extra £114 million in summer transfer fees,"
