Born in Preston lived in the shadow of Deepdale saw Tom Finney. Moved to Padihm in the 60's started watching Burnley with a mate from Padiam who had always been a fan. Moved to Crawley late 70's went to see Burnley at Palace... Met the London Clarets who were entertaining the great Ralph Coates joined the LCSC there and then. Have been a Clarets fan to this day.

I was Chorley born & bred. Had no connection with Burnley until I was 11 and a mate's dad (originally from Burnley) took us to the Turf. It was 1992 so a fine time to do so! That was it for me.
Not many Clarets in Chorley so life was difficult especially with Blackburn doing well and the bandwagon that followed.
25 years on, hundreds of matches later, I'm limited to watching every game online at ridiculous hours as I moved to NZ five years back.

Born in West Sussex, my dad is a Claret (though also hails from West Sussex). He started supporting them as a boy, started taking me to matches whenever the Clarets played down South. My first match was at Barnet in 1992, a 0-0 draw but my dad got to meat Brian Miller, his hero.

Since then I've seen Burnley at a number of grounds (and ex grounds) down south. Never been to Turfmoor though. Watching the Clarets can be odd at times if you've got a southern accent as sometimes I feel as if it looks like I'm a plant!

Born in Burnley but I have lived in Holland for the past 24 years! I recently met a Dutch lad on the tram wearing a Burnley scarf ... he had started supporting us after our first year in the Premier League and got over to a couple of games a season.

Born and raised in Blackburn. All mates support Rovers. Dad brought up as claret in Accrington and passed it onto me.

My mums from North Yorkshire, my dads from Glasgow. My sister was born in Glasgow and I would have been too had it not been for a city center mass brawl between Rangers and Celtic fans, when my mum was out shopping, pregnant with me, which made her decide she wanted to move away from Glasgow. My dad found a job in Burnley which was near where my Yorkshire grandparents had moved to some years earlier.

First kit I was given was Rangers, first game I went to was Rangers but I was given a Burnley ticket by my Uncle and I remember us winning 3-1 and someone scored a belting goal, because of the proximity I then got my first season ticket and the rest is history.

Bought the Fish and chip shop in Denholme in 1994 .Although we used to open Saturdays I never missed a home game in the 12years we had the shop.

Born & bred in Keighley. When me and my brother were old enough to start watching footy I guess it would have been a choice between Clarets, Bratfut and Weeds, thankfully my Dad made the right choice, helped in no small part to the next-door neighbours being avid Clarets.

Lived in few other Yorkshire spots in my 20s (Leeds, Wetherby, York) before moving to Dublin 10 years ago. Still get over to 4 or 5 games a season.

Born and Bred in Deal, Kent. My Dad was also born there and still lives there. His hero was Adam Blacklaw so he chose Burnley. His Dad supported Arsenal and his brother Spurs. I liked Man Utd in the late 70's but most of my schoolmates were Liverpool. My Dad took me to the Sherpa Van Trophy in 88 and that's pretty much where it started! I can thank my Dad for a lot of things but supporting the Clarets and going to matches together means the world to me.

Strong in th'arm
And brilliant int'bed!

Was non comittal between us and t'rovers as a very young kid, then out of the blue was given a Burnley hat and scarf set one Christmas when I must have been around 5 or 6.

Here's me and my mate when I were a young 'un. I'm on the right. Definitely.

I'm guessing I was 7 or 8, so the top is from a few seasons previous.

[quote][Born and bred in Penzance Cornwall. I'm 61 now and have supported Burnley for over 50 years. No league club in Cornwall and all the kids support the so called big teams. I picked Burnley and am still as passionate about the Clarets as I was as a kid. Try to get to the Turf at least once a season and away games when I can. There are a few Cornish born Burnley fans and hopefully if we continue our great success there will be many more/quote]

I'm now living just outside Falmouth. Maybe we can travel to a game or two together.

What a really interesting thread with some great anecdotes. I can`t join in because I was Burnley born and bread. (Top o` Town), but it makes me feel proud of the great support we`ve always had from far and wide, in the bad times and the good.. Long may it continue.. UTC NNN.

Anybody who supports BFC for the long term however they began will absorb the whole, community spirit, no nonsense, against the odds, pride in the town and surrounding areas and deserves the same respect. If they are glory hunters they would choose one of the "super powers."

I haven't lived in Burnley for 30 years. Left at the age of 19. I try to get down to the Turf as often as I can and subscribe to Sky so that I can watch them at home when I can't get there. There are far prettier places to live than Burnley, of course. I live in Northumberland where there are many designated areas our outstanding natural beauty, magnificent castles and coastline. I'm reading about Cornish supporters born in beautiful Cornwall, following the Clarets. But when I saw a windy, rainy, Turf Moor, with the obligatory camera pan around Burnley Wood and beyond on Sunday versus Palace it still tugs at my heart strings and I still consider it to be home.

Born in Dartford and live in Eastbourne now, all my family are Charlton fans.
I started supporting Burnley in 1993/4 when we got relegated from div1 under Jimmy Mullen.
At the time I had discovered JDSports who used to sell old football tops for a fiver each which I bought for football training.
One of those tops was the green and black away kit which I took a shine too.
Also at football training was my mate who supported Swindon, who were one place below us at the time and we both ended up getting relegated.
From that day I supported Burnley to wind him up, sadly we never got to a Swindon Vs Burnley game but the rest is history.

Born in South Wales. Followed Burnley as Leighton James was one of the 22 best footballers in Britain according to ESSO. Four gallons used to get you free gifts and stickers / badges / coins collections. Saw my first game in 76 - Hereford away - and being let on the team bus that day is a memory that still lives with me. Have done the hard yards at Aldershot, Colchester and Dartford. Enjoyed the Sherpa Van and the Wigan promotion game. Now living in Oz and every game is live - in the middle of the night.

My grandfather and his twin brother left Burnley to serve in WW2. His twin returned to Burnley but my grandfather had met my grandmother and settled in Totton. They had 5 children of which 3 support Burnley, my Dad being one of them. Both me and my sister support Burnley as does my daughter and 2 of my sisters 4 children. The Sherpa van final was when I got hooked. We all try to get to a home game every season and watch when we can get tickets for Southern/London matches.

I've never been to the UK. Born in Pennsylvania, USA. Now live in Nebraska, USA.

Decided I wanted to follow a Premier League team in 2009. Didn't want to pick one of the big teams, so chose Burnley because they were the little guys punching above their weight. A few weeks later Coyle left and boy was I confused. Still, I've stuck with the team, even thru relegation which was very new to me at the time.

I get up extra early on weekends to follow their games and am excited to do so.

As mentioned by an earlier poster David and Goliath springs to mind. If you saw our little town surrounded by hills and valleys it's nothing short of remarkable. We have a very switched on Board of Directors and to be honest the fact that we are a small club holding our own against the big City Teams goes in our favour when the likes of Chelsea think they are just out for a kick about and we beat them in front of their home support!

[quote="cockneyclaret"] live in Eastbourne now.

There's weird. I'm in Eastbourne and work there.

Anyhow, I got into football in 1970/1, and originating from near Rye, and being 6, I had no idea where anywhere was other than Hastings, Ashford and Haywards Heath. I collected the A&BC football cards (orange backs) and decided that I'd support Burnley and Newcastle, with absolutely no idea that I'd managed to pick the two that were actually furthest from my house. And there it was, and still is.

I remember that Burnley only had 11 players: Mellor, Latcham, Angus, Merrington, Waldron, Bellamy, Coates, Wilson, Casper, Kindon and Thomas. The team didn't balance properly as there were three players that were supposed to be "Outside Left/Right, but no centre forward. I also later worked out that Brian O'Neill was wearing a Burnley kit when he had had his picture taken, and they'd airbrushed (or whatever the equivalent was) a red and white kit over the top of it and made him a Southampton player.

With the aid of two subbuteo goals, I created a league (when I was about 8), and the players turned out on my carpet. Burnley won the inaugural 1st Division and Casper scored about 60 goals that season. They also lost in the FA Cup final to a side of teddy bears the previous year before I had the goals and used the back of 2 chairs, but it wasn't exactly fair when Peter Mellor was about 5 inches high, whereas the bears played "Cat" in goal, who could sit up and practically fill the whole goal.
