Currently inside the Emirates, thousands upon thousands of German fans everywhere around us. Horrible tense atmosphere, Tens of thousands of fans being made to feel very unsafe, including very young children.
This is what I am going on about it is a major f-up and the disruption created is not something you can simply say "tough" to

Re: 20,000 Germans..
I've read several quotes on the BBC website where many Arsenal fans in different sections of the ground say there are Cologne fans everywhere.
Difficult for stewards to deny entry to the 'wrong' fans when Arsenal have such a diverse following themselves.
I have been in Club Emirates twice and a high proportion of fans are tourists or foreign guest of corporate ticket holders.
I don't understand the 2900 allocation to start with as you can get up to 7000ish in the Premier League. It doesn't look like they have the first 5 rows empty either like it used to be in the CL.

Is London still standing? You'd have thought the barbarians were at the gates with some of the ill informed bed wetting hysteria in here yesterday .
First time in Europe for donkeys yrs playing one of the big clubs in London just means thousands make the journeyand match is a bonus . By en large they were rather well behaved . Could u imagine 20,000 rangers fans ? In fact I couldn't imagine less arrests and disorder from 20.000 fans from pretty much any club in Europe

I'm understanding that the Cologne fans with tickets in the home end know they shouldn't be there that's why they are trying to move to the away end.TsarBomba wrote:JFW.
Nobody is being allowed in. There are Koln fans with tickets for the home ends, as well as some trying to get in without.
The sensible thing to do is to move them all in to the away end, as there are reports that Koln fans are fighting with stewards trying to get there anyway.
In one place, instead of being dotted around, the Police can contain and minimise disorder. Ejecting Koln fans, once inside, is not an option. The Police and stewards don't have the manpower.
What exactly are you failing to understand here?
Going forward it sets a precedent that away fans buying up home tickets will not be ejected from the ground but catered for, whichthen encourages it.
So Man Utd fans can buy tickets in the home ends and we'll have to kick the Burnley Fans out of the CFS if theres a lot of them.
In fact now you know it's happening so we may as well keep the home bit of the CFS empty for them.
Oh what the hell have the whole CFS
Oh wait even more came Ok we can Empty the Bob Lord
Oh hold on the grounds full theres no where to go Oh its pandemonium inside
Now in the confusion some fans who came without tickets have got in.
What didn't you get about Hillsborough

The world has moved on a lot now in terms of expectations at games and the people who attend, as we all know Arsenal are not a cheap team to watch and many ticket holders are decidedly middle class and families - it appears that a lot of Arsenal fans decided to stay away from the game last night out of concern about what could happen. As has been mentioned elsewhere if this had been W Ham, Spurs (at White Hart Lane) or possibly even Chelsea it could have been carnage.
All Seater stadia are not designed for the premise of stands open to fans of both sides with pockets of fans here there and everywhere - on terraces it was much easier to separate and move factions - see Sheff Wednesday at the Turf
last night a single nasty incident between fans could have sparked something highly serious

Re: 20,000 Germans..
There's nothing worse than fans running to stewards demanding another team's fan gets chucked out. Unless they're kicking off or acting like dicks, what's the problem? I've had Liverpool and City fans sat near me before on the Turf, it was quite interesting hearing their view on the game.
Anyway, after all the dire warnings and angst, beyond a scuffle with stewards as they went in, did the Cologne fans do much other than loudly support their team? A couple of hundred idiots from Hanover caused more bother than 20,000 of that lot did last night.

That is the job of the Safety Officers - it is what they are held accountable for and if it did they would have been slaughtered and somebody would have to dig very deep to pay - also the probability of charges relating to neglect of responsibilityQuickenthetempo wrote:Every time we discuss football fan problems it's always what could of happened. Re: 20,000 Germans..
Arsenal were warned that up to 10,000 may turn up so should have been prepared. In the old days of terracing they used to open another "pen" if more turned up than expected one I can remember is Forest away in little woods cup.
It got me thinking to next week when we play the "best supported" team in the world. They sold out their allocation, how prepared would we be if say 6000 turned up without tickets?

There is a letter in the Guardian online that I read this morning ( whilst mending my open toed sandals and eating my muesli) from a Cologne supporter explaining the reasons why so many travelled and as a football fan I get it. The sight of them marching through London although impressive was not a patch on the Scots fans walking through Paris a few years ago. The authorities should have been better prepared full stop.

It's a pity that some of those 20000 weren't in the city centre of their own city last new years eve.
They may have been able to stop the rape, assault and sexual attacks of over 1000 German women by mainly recently arrived north African illegal immigrants.
