Chris Wood

Post by Quickenthetempo » Sun Oct 01, 2017 8:47 pm

1st half he was superb for us, best he has played in his short clarets career.

Terrorised Ashley Williams letting us get up the pitch. He gave us everything that Everton were missing, a real focal point.

I thnk you know my thoughts on him. He's a top player and IMO the best we have to play upfront in a 4-5-1.

The commentators made me laugh before the game today. They said as he was walking out Woods filled the entire tunnel haha! Not sure how tall he is or how heavy he weighs, but he's a big lad and quicker than players lighter than him. He can use both feet too.

One moment in the first half when we won a corner just from a long ball all because of Wood chasing it down vs Williams. He was fantastic and his hold-up play was exceptional as well.

He’s excellent at winning headers when it’s punted to him. Pretty good with the ball at his feet and he presses intelligently.

Only one poor aspect to his game and that’s when it comes at him and he’s unsure whether to chest, head or control. More often than not they hit him and Vokes is better in that regard.

All round though he’s doing well. Be nice for him to notch a couple more soon.

Think he was a stunning purchase, Gray did us a favour when he wanted to move. much as I appreciate what he did in a claret shirt. No way we would be on 12 points tonight if AGhad started every game. Every cloud..... and all that

Leeds are definitely missing Taylor and Wood. Add them to their side and they'd be top of the league and coasting. They still have players like roofe but we've signed their two best players - not bad from the best club in Europe, eh!

Wood's header led to our goal. He looked like a bloody man mountain! It doesn't matter if there had been 5 men on him he would have won that header.

One thing that really i pressed me was the way he won free kicks by drawing in the defender to make a foul (basically by standing his ground/backing in subtly) it reminded me of what Shearer user to do.

I know I kept banging on about Chris Wood, but I did say this as he was about to sign. However - this is one of the only positives of having most of your best mates from Leeds! :D

I do sometimes wonder if people see what they want to see.

I'm far from convinced.

They can’t see the wood for the trees.

Was excellent for an hour but I would have liked to have seen us bring Vokes on for the last 20/30 mins. Fresh legs and a bloke with a point to prove...

Top striker

His game is more advanced than the rest of our strikers including the outgoing Gray.

A lot of his work goes unnoticed but his stats are extremely impressive.

He was a good player at Leicester but has come on leaps and bounds since.

We are more balanced with Wood up front and allows us to play the 4-5-1 much more effectively due to his mobility, ability in the air and on the floor.

Wood was gr8 today. As for Williams wow! He looked a shadow of the player that played for Swansea..

I thought Wood was decent today but was a little isolated in the second half and didn’t hold the ball up as well as he could. On current evidence we’ve got ourselves a far more all-round centre forward than Gray.

Love when we get close ups of him. He could have ****** up, he could have scored, he could have just given an air shot, he could just have been booked. Whatever the circumstance he has one expression on his face, and it's non-expressive. Nada, zero.

I refer to it as his groot-look

Played well, does the stuff that goes unnoticed well and a super defensive clearance to boot. May have to re-evaluate my marks on him.

I fully expected him to take Vokes' place. He's our best striker now, but keep an eye on this board when Wells starts to get game time. He'll offer us a different option.

I think it'll be interesting.

He played ok but I think he is still finding his way into the team and how it is set up by Dyche. Also there is no way he is going to be left out, especially in the initial stages of his career, after we just stumped up £15 million for the lad.
