Re: Trump and Jerusalem...Insane
My two penn'orth.
There is much more to this than meets the eye.
The background- in 1995, when Bill Clinton was in the White House, Congress passed the Jerusalem Embassy Act which (a) recognised Jerusalem as the Israeli capital and enabled the shifting of the U.S. Embassy from Tel Aviv but (b) gave the President a prerogative/veto (known as the "waiver") to override the legislation. The waiver has been exercised by every president since then, including Trump who signed it on 1st June, despite the "recognition of Jerusalem/moving the embassy" in accordance with the 1995 legislation being campaign promises (I have not been able to find out what H. Clinton said about this during her own campaign but there is no doubt that she too was very much in favour as as long ago as 1999. Given that she was generally even more hawkish than Trump when it came to foreign affairs it would not surprise me to find out that she remained in favour).
It was the Senate which voted unanimously (90-0) to pass a resolution to recognise Jerusalem as the capital and to exercise the authority of the 1995 Act to move the embassy, fifty years on from the Six Day War.
This resolution was passed on 6th June 2017, five days after Trump had in fact signed the waiver to continue the deferment of the move from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem; it was co-sponsored by Democratic minority leader Chuck Schumer who said "I am proud to sponsor this resolution, which reaffirms the Jerusalem Embassy Act of 1995 that states Jerusalem should remain an undivided city and Israel’s capital – in which the rights of every ethnic and religious group are celebrated, valued and protected".
Trump was therefore acquiescing to the wishes of a unanimous Senate and may have been politically outmanoeuvred (accidentally on purpose?), but this has the full weight of the Senate behind it and it is not necessarily a unilateral act.
Meanwhile, Russia recognised West Jerusalem as the de facto Israeli capital on 6th April but nobody batted an eyelid...

Does it matter? It's too much of a cultural shift over too short of period. It's allowed for parallel societies to grow and flourish that have almost totally different values to those of indigenous people. You might think that's a good thing, but me I think it's a recipe for terrorism to grow.UpTheBeehole wrote:And how much was due to births?
If we only brought in manageable numbers, and checked the people who came in, we wouldn't have this problem right now but alas labour decided we didn't need any of that because it's all racist.

Your common knowledge "facts" don't stand up to scruitiny. 1.6m in 2001 and 2.7m in 2011. Not only is that not doubled in ten years, itsn't even increased by half the 2.5m you claim. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Islam_in_ ... ed_Kingdom" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
So why don't you tell the rest of us where it was you heard this bullshit "2.5m in just 10 years" figure? I don't seriously expect you to answer this because i'm sure it was just some stupid facebook posts you saw and immediately believed because you're an uncritical fool, but maybe you'll surprise me and actually provide a source.

What's the reference to 2.5m?ClaretMoffitt wrote:Muslim population doubled between 2001-2011 UK census 2.5m in just 10 years. It's common knowledge... That not even counting the 90s...
It can't be the increase in the muslim population, because in the 2011 census, 2,660,116 people were muslim, and in the 2001 census 1,524,887 people were muslim.
So that's not a 2.5m rise and it's not doubling.
What other lies are you going to come out with?

Some odd stuff (odder than normal!) on here today.
Do IT, UTB and Walton really not know that something going from 2.7% to 4.8% is close to doubling? Can't say I like where Moffitt was going with this info but to insult someone for mentioning that something had "doubled" when they should have said it had "almost doubled" is bizarre.

To say it was him who brought the census into the equation in the first place, yet had absolutely no idea of the numbers was pretty embarrassing.
To get something that wrong is dangerous, especially paired with the blatant prejudices people like Moffitt hold.

Thats not even considering the fact that tens possibly hundreds of thousands will not have been recorded on the census due to language barriers/illegal settlement/house sharing without fixed addresses etc etc, who all will most likely reside in these heavily segregated communities, and of course be prime targets for recruiting radicals.
