We keep saying that but it just keeps going and going. There has to be a limit though surely or we will reach the point where every game is shown live. Will be interesting though to see the effect of 20 games being shown in one midweek, presumably over two nights.cricketfieldclarets wrote:Will kill the game eventually.

Re: All midweek matches to be shown live in next TV Deal
Might be being an idiot, but it looks like one broadcaster has the option to do this bumper 'all midweek' option, so realistically, BT or Sky.
Won't that mean they need 10 channels for this? How are they going to manage that, just create a channel for one night? Sounds like more hassle than it's worth....

Re: All midweek matches to be shown live in next TV Deal
This threw me! It's 10 games for 2 midweeks, not 20, which means 5 a night, over 2 nights, which they can cope with channel wise. Presume with Bank Holiday they will stagger kick-offs across multiple channels?ClaretTony wrote: Will be interesting though to see the effect of 20 games being shown in one midweek, presumably over two nights.

Sky has the red button, so they have no problem. BBC could do that as well. Do BT have a red button? I've never looked.burnleytom wrote:Might be being an idiot, but it looks like one broadcaster has the option to do this bumper 'all midweek' option, so realistically, BT or Sky.

Re: All midweek matches to be shown live in next TV Deal
There is also no need to have all 10 games on the same week. Spare midweeks are at a premium for those playing in European competitions but the rest of the division could play on the same night as a Champions League gamenight.burnleytom wrote:This threw me! I don't think they're allowed - no top level league games allowed on European nights by UEFA rules.bfcmik wrote:There is also no need to have all 10 games on the same week. Re: All midweek matches to be shown live in next TV Deal
been doing it over here in trumpville since the last deal. The way I read the potential new deal is that the option to show all games will only be available on the midweek games when no lower league games take place
Re: All midweek matches to be shown live in next TV Deal
Here come Amazon so people will have to pay for 3 lots if they want to watch
. It's bad enough paying for Sky and BT.

Re: All midweek matches to be shown live in next TV Deal
I don't see the money drying up anytime soon - the most competitive top flight league in the World. It's absolutely essential we stay in the PL as it will soon get to the stage (if we aren't already there) that promoted teams wont be able to even remotely competeSteve1956 wrote:The start of the money drying up ! Re: All midweek matches to be shown live in next TV Deal
They have realised that anyone with the right equipment can watch any premier league game they want anyway.they are all shown live throughout the world so why not just stick them on the TV anyway. Will not affect attendances the premier league grounds aren't exactly awash with spare seats are they.
About time I say.

Great news for me and other fans who have to travel long distances for home games.
Re: All midweek matches to be shown live in next TV Deal
I give it ten years until most matches are shown on either Amazon, facebook, youtube, google, etc, and it will cost us peanuts to watch it.
IMO Sky might not be able to compete with the above.

You don't have to pay, got rid of sky 5 years and haven't missed it. Would never go back to paying for TV.Commy wrote:Here come Amazon so people will have to pay for 3 lots if they want to watch. It's bad enough paying for Sky and BT.

They could go for the EL option of 6pm and 8pm kickoffs the same night.
They could then spread it over Tues, Wed, Thurs.

BT do that on champions league and Europa league nights now. Won't be an issue.Might be being an idiot, but it looks like one broadcaster has the option to do this bumper 'all midweek' option, so realistically, BT or Sky.

Re: All midweek matches to be shown live in next TV Deal
Amazon & Facebook are potential bidders so not necessarily Sky/BT, but the Telegraph does show the midweek/BH games as two packages so could go to two different bidders.burnleytom wrote:Might be being an idiot, but it looks like one broadcaster has the option to do this bumper 'all midweek' option, so realistically, BT or Sky.

Re: All midweek matches to be shown live in next TV Deal
The more that's on telly, the less interest I have in it. I could manage one 'Super Sunday' game a few years ago but rarely watch anything now there's games on all weekend. Obviously Scudamore wants to be able to say 'look, another record deal', but how many more games does he have to give away now than 10 years ago to keep the cash coming in?
Going to a match is 10 times better than any TV game. That and MoTD is enough for me, as for paying to watch on telly.. jeez, no chance.

Re: All midweek matches to be shown live in next TV Deal
It was always going to happen.
BT give you access to every Champions league game with the red button and Sky give you instant footage of every championship goal during the week already.
It will have more of an impact on attendances than Saturday 3pm kick offs though as people are less likely to travel more than an hour if they can watch it at home.

Re: All midweek matches to be shown live in next TV Deal
I hope Sky Sports get the majority over BT. I'm surprised Sky Sports have the Merseyside and Manchester derbies this Sunday, as BT Sport seem to get the biggest fixtures, whenver I look.
Re: All midweek matches to be shown live in next TV Deal
We might as well ride the gravy train whilst we can.
The moment the big clubs start negotiating their own tv deals is when it will be all over (in terms of competing with them) for clubs like us. Hopefully this will never happen, but you never know.

Re: All midweek matches to be shown live in next TV Deal
You DO have to pay for it - its this attitude that will kill it eventually. People have to realise that you can't just leech content, you have to pay for it otherwise there is no incentive to make or provide it.NL Claret wrote:You don't have to pay, got rid of sky 5 years and haven't missed it. EDIT. Might have been harsh on NL Claret, it depends on whether he has got rid of pay TV and doesn't just take it from other sources.

Re: All midweek matches to be shown live in next TV Deal
Exactly same. I cant remember the last time i watched super sunday. Theres actually too many games. Id be more inclined to watch as i did back in the day if it was just arsenal v man u sunday or liverpool v newcastle midweek etc. One game but you knew entertainment wqs guaranteed. I genuinely dont remember the last sunday game i watched and ive more spare time on sunday than when i used to play myself.NottsClaret wrote:The more that's on telly, the less interest I have in it. Actually think BT sports decent value and enjoy watching the odd european game. But theres no novelty.

True. But eventually it will get go a stage where it does. It happened with serie a and theyve still not recovered fully.ClaretTony wrote:We keep saying that but it just keeps going and going. Theres zero novelty to a game in tv either. Theres so many games on tv and so much money that if and when it does go bust fans will be picking up the pieces with ticket increases and they wont pay it. Imo anyway.

Wasn't the Italian league the most competitive league in the world at one stage and awash with cash?... Now it's shite and broken, and they can't even qualify for the World Cup,this money won't be around for ever....Vegas Claret wrote:I don't see the money drying up anytime soon - the most competitive top flight league in the World. and the big clubs will then be saying they want their share of season tickets for their matches - then we will truly see the what the magic money tree can do for the few - will make la liga in the noughties look very eve and fair by comparisonCFS wrote:Give it 5 years you will have ST's for your team to watch all games on tele.

Re: All midweek matches to be shown live in next TV Deal
So are we all agreed our capacity is about right?
What will probably happen is that attendances will decline. Clubs will not want to play in half empty stadiums so will bring down tickets. They will more than covered the lost match day revenue with the TV money.

Not at all, when the money was around there was a top 5 or 6 and the rest were rubbish. I'm not saying the money will be around forever but there is no sign of it diminishing - the next deal TV will be worth even moreSteve1956 wrote:Wasn't the Italian league the most competitive league in the world at one stage and awash with cash?... Football should be played 3pm kick off on a Saturday afternoon.
Attendances will suffer.
