If that happens should do wonders for Tarks value - provided we extend his contract

So what value for a manager who can do it without paying ridiculous transfers.

Re: £75 million for Van Dijk
He was the best central defender in the league last year, was incredible against us on the Turf.

Good business for Southampton since he never appeared to be giving his all since the deal fell through last summer.

Agreed, I hadn't seen much of him prior to that but he was unbelievable that day. Won every header and looked like Southampton's best attacker.KRBFC wrote:He was the best central defender in the league last year, was incredible against us on the Turf.

Re: £75 million for Van Dijk
Having watched him live several times I think he is good.
But that’s a massive increase in the market, Tarks has just gone to 50 million.
You think it’s going to bust year after year but no it keeps going up and surprising us.

He was outstanding last year, but he hasn't been ripping up flags since he came back in this season.
Nothing against him so I hope he can live up to it.

Wonder if he will suffer the same condition as previous defenders?
Turn rubbish overnight now he's signed for them?

Re: £75 million for Van Dijk
It's one thing signing the player, another trying to best utilise him in a team that struggles to defend. Ask Michael Keane.
Re: £75 million for Van Dijk
Probably, although it's not a surprise with Jordan Henderson in front of the back four and Mignolet behind.Sidney1st wrote:Wonder if he will suffer the same condition as previous defenders?

Celtic have done well out of him.Signed for £2.5m...they've had £13m from Soton incl. add ons so far, with now another £7.5m to come. Something like £18m profit...vast in Scottish football.

Liverpool building a team to challenge next year?

He is a very valuable cb because he is good with his feet - fashionable. Like Tarks and Keane are. Mee is never going to worth as much because he is more of an old fashioned defender.

Never mind Celtic doing well out of it, Southampton turned down £60m for him in the Summer, half a distinctively average season later, they get £75 million for him.Celtic have done well out of him.Signed for £2.5m...they've had £13m from Soton incl. add ons so far, with now another £7.5m to come. Since 2014 Liverpool have paid over £168.5 Million in transfer fees to Southampton.

Good deal for Southampton, wonder where they plan to spend the money.
Personally think it's ludicrous Liverpool will be half the team when coutinho goes .

Edit
And he gained a rating of 7 from Sky Sports against Man of the Match Ben Mee who rated an 8.

Is this the most expensive Van Dyke ever sold and where does it rank amongst other Dutch masters?

Hertz Van Hire is a steal at a fraction of that for a season long loan

Only jesting with you old bean but £75m for a petulant child who throws his toys out of the pram is fantastic business for Southampton.KRBFC wrote:Must be pants then if he only got a 7 in one game
I doubt their Manager will see much of it though as I have a feeling he isvon borrowed time already.

Re: £75 million for Van Dijk
It won't - players can't sign until 1st Jan and they can't play for 24 hours after signing. They would be able to play him, I think, if they signed him on loan, but not permanently.Tall Paul wrote:Debut at Turf Moor on New Years Day?
A lot of money for a centre half, but he's an outstanding defender.

Though he will join the club on 1 January, Van Dijk will not be able to register as a player until 2 January so will not be available for Liverpool's trip to Burnley on Monday.Tall Paul wrote:Debut at Turf Moor on New Years Day?

Mee is the best at what Mee does. I don't know anyone else who could do what he does for our team so I'd say he's priceless.

In that case, he's welcome to play the rest of his career with us as far as I'm concerned.

Ben Mee is a great defender but very limited football wise.

Re: £75 million for Van Dijk
He’s a great defender but this signing probably signals the end of one of there best attackers don’t think they would of spent 75m if they were not expecting a influx of cash from the Coutinho sale..
Re: £75 million for Van Dijk
It's a bloody goalkeeper they need as both of their keepers are crap..

Re: £75 million for Van Dijk
Defending is of course a huge part of the game but the defenders that are stars and play internationally and for the bigger clubs are generally very good with the ball at their feet. This is where Mee is limited as to be be quite frank he isn’t that good with the ball.
Ben Mee outstanding, brave defender but his distribution is bang average at best.

Ben Mee’s pass completion is 76.1% this season which is probable better than average.arise_sir_charge wrote:Defending is of course a huge part of the game but the defenders that are stars and play internationally and for the bigger clubs are generally very good with the ball at their feet. That’s as maybe but the most of those passes will be 5-10 yards to either side of him.
The likes of Van Dijk, Keane and Tarkowski are more dynamic than that. They are very comfortable with the ball.

According to the stats here https://www.whoscored.com/Teams/184/Sho ... nd-Burnley" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
There’s only Defour, Cork and Hendrick with a better pass success this season.
