What can happen when your football club is sold
There are certainly positive stories but also some seriously bad ones and he's one of the latter - Coventry City

Re: What can happen when your football club is sold
Leaving Highfield Road was a complete disaster. (Obviously, I don't know the specifics about WHY they left)
but their departure seemed to coincide with the commencement of their troubles. Good ground too.
I like the idea of a shirt twice as big as you need, though.
Cover up me belly.

Moved from Highfield Road in 2005. Their problems were the purchase of the club in late 2007. That’s when it all started.ElectroClaret wrote:Leaving Highfield Road was a complete disaster. (Obviously, I don't know the specifics about WHY they left)

Re: What can happen when your football club is sold
Wouldn’t want any club to go under
They are the life of many communities and towns across the country. Sport needs rivalries otherwise it’s pretty boring.
It’s also very cyclical. Look across the championship and league one to see those clubs who have been at the top, now scraping to survive. That could well be us in a few years.
That said am I enjoying Rovers league position, absolutely. But imaging never seeing us play them again. Remember how it felt when we finally beat them at their place.

Rovers have already lost their ground, in reality.
It's in hock to the Venkys.

They have to be THE example as to why club's should never been owned!ClaretTony wrote:Moved from Highfield Road in 2005. Their problems were the purchase of the club in late 2007. That’s when it all started.
A club who remained top flight for so long (Not many clubs had a longer unbroken stint in the 1st division) were brilliantly run and had the first all seater stadium, and then dropped like a lead brick and are still looking rudderless 20 years later.

Would you know if the Richard Overson mentioned is Vinces brother or a coincidence, CT? They did come from Kettering.ClaretTony wrote:There are certainly positive stories but also some seriously bad ones and he's one of the latter - Coventry City

Re: What can happen when your football club is sold
If Burnley ever finished in the top half of the Premier League the approaches to sell could become irresistible and I fear we would lose the connection between the club and the town . Lets continue the spin making us unattractive ( long ball ,underdogs , cloth caps , relegation favorites , financially cautious ,last on match of the day , a real football club etc. ) Let keep it quiet for as long as possible.

I did have to look twice when I saw the name but it’s not Vince’s brother.piston broke wrote:Would you know if the Richard Overson mentioned is Vinces brother or a coincidence, CT? They did come from Kettering.

I was enquiring about Equity Release and the director of one company, Key Retirement, is one Richard Overson. This is the fellow involved at Coventry.
Re: What can happen when your football club is sold
Didn't realise that Coventry fans of my age (45) would have never experienced a promotion in their lifetime. I can remember 6 in my 40 years watching the Clarets, what an experience to miss out on. Possibly Man U, Liverpool, Arsenal and Everton have never been promoted in the last 40 years either!!
Decades surviving in the top flight and then a steady decline over the last 15 years.

Re: What can happen when your football club is sold
We were there too once.
Either by mis management or poor investment - you can debate.
You can be sure its a long painful climb back, it took us best part of 40 years what with relegations and promotions for two consecutive years in the Prem.
There are some on here that have no idea what its been like. Coventry fans need to stay true to their club, that is what matters.

Man U were relegated around 1974 just over 40 years ago but came straight back up

About 3000 boro fans going on this week to help them out - repaying a debt from a reverse support in the 80's - good on em
