Scott Arfield

Post by cricketfieldclarets » Sat Jan 20, 2018 3:50 pm

Excellent first half drifting inside and linking up. Fancy him to nick one or set one up. Justified his place again.

You'll always get some folk who will disagree with that.
I was sat near a bloke giving Barnes dogs abuse, the funny thing was he was subbed 5 minutes earlier.

Would agree. Thought he was excellent first half.

In between in the lines in pockets, drifting in from wide. Think he deserves a run in the 10 where I think he would be better suited.

His best game for a while, I thought Scotty was superb in the first half and decent in the second, tried some interplay with Hendrick and it all broke down (I'm not having a pop at Hendrick just stating a fact)

Bloody rubbish. He wasn't awful at all. Put in a great shift today against players of the highest quality. Disappointing in the end but not down to any players being 'awful'.

If you watched that today and thought he was awful then you clearly have an agenda. 7/8 players far worse.

You really should take those glasses back.
Even the commentators on tv said he was class today.

Thought all the boys were good today. Sorry, wasn't having a go at anyone in particular, just think if 1 player is being criticised there were players that were worse than Scotty today.

Great one touch link up play, made some mistakes but put in a good performance. Playing so narrow really tricked Valencia. I don't think he is used to players playing that way.

I'd say it was somewhere in between what you've said and what the OP's said.

He was his usual tenacious self and popped up in some great positions, but his touch and passing at times was poor.

Need a new quality striker in even if it means letting Wells out on loan.

No one seems to have any idea how long Chris Wood is going to be out for

From a TV Stream, I actually thought the whole team played pretty well today. Felt they were at least as effective as United were, and created similar. Thought the passing from defence into midfield was much improved today, Defour and Cork got on the ball, and the 3 in front provided options, whilst Barnes ran the channels very well.

I see Bardsley's getting a lot of low marks, but I didn't see him do too much wrong. For the goal, both centre halves get dragged out of position and then because of 1 small mistake, Bardsley had to defend a large area with runners breaking into it. It's very tough to defend that.

Pretty impressed to be honest, and whilst I don't see games every week these days, I was impressed today, and thought the team were unlucky.

Played ok, but would he be anywhere near the starting eleven if Brady, Ward, Wood were fit. I think not. All in all a good performance today from the team, but I still maintain we should be more positive at home and go for wins, plus subs should have been made earlier.

We certainly looked a better side offensively when SD subbed Arfield and Hendrick. Pity he left it so long.

He was decent, particularly in the first half and he got played in a few times with nice balls from Hendrick and they linked up well.

The only thing that I'd say is that as the game went on, in truth his desire to come inside and take the ball to feet, coupled with Barnes wanting the same thing, meant that we didn't commit defenders often enough. But that's more of a criticism of the balance of the team, than of Arfield directly.

Had a decent game outside the box, stopped trying to do that annoying turn he does which meant he didn't give it away nearly as much. Nothing to speak of in terms of a final ball or a goal threat today though.

Scotty has the football brain of exactly what we are missing since we lost Brady. Unfortunately at the top level it's about the speed you can operate at in terms of pressing and time on the ball which is where Scotty isn't quite up to our top 10 standard.

I love the bloke and the way he plays but he should be 4th choice winger and not the next best we have should Brady or JBG not be available

The problem with this debate is that many posters on here are either very much pro Arfield and looking for excuses to praise him or very much anti Arfield and looking for excuses to have a pop at him.

For what it’s worth, I like Scott Arfield. I like what he brings to the team/squad and would like him to be at Burnley beyond this season.

However, it’s also my opinion that a lot of the time moves break down when the ball reaches Arfield because he lacks the quality and composure at this level to make THAT pass, go past an opponent or pull the trigger.

Squad player? Yes, absolutely.
Do we require better quality in the starting XI on a more regular basis? Yes, I think so.

Thought Arfield had a very good first half yesterday and a solid second.

I'd like to see him stay beyond this season, he can slot in various roles and gives everything, including the occasional goal. He's more than just a squad player. However, I wouldn't begrudge him a last big pay day if he can secure a longer contract and higher wages by running his contract down.
