Chelsea after our Ash
Re: Chelsea after our Ash
Nonsense. He keeps defenders occupied, his work rate, he wins free kicks and he's actually a very good footballer. Whilst he's not prolific how many minutes has he had on the pitch. He's been used a lot as a sub so don't let the appearance stats get on the way of this. Yes we need another striker but Barnes is a good option to keep.

Have a look at our poor run of form, and have a look at who was starting up front.
I'll give you a clue: he's an embarrassing cheat, diving on the slightest bit of contact.

You mean like when we won at home to Newcastle and Stoke 1-0, for example, with Barnes up front?UpTheBeehole wrote:Have a look at our poor run of form, and have a look at who was starting up front.

Blaming Barnes for team failures is absolute rubbish, Barnes isn't a natural CF but he's done generally well with the service he's had.
Re: Chelsea after our Ash
I suspect you're literally the only person on this board who would rather have Lucas Jutkiewicz playing ahead of Ashley Barnes. But you're entitled to your opinion ...UpTheBeehole wrote:What would we miss? his dives? his complete lack of goals? his passes straight to the opposition?
He's the worst footballer at Burnley in a long time.
Just can't do the basics.

Unfortunately for you, he's the most gifted outfield player we have.

It's interesting,
These threads really show up some posters complete and utter lack of football understanding.
UTB, I can't work out whether your thoughts are serious or whether you're trying to be Britains Next Top Fisherman.

Go on News Now and there is hardly anything else on there. It is the most bizarre story but apparently very true. If we can milk them for some of there untold gazzillions and get above market value then I would say yes and use the money trying to get another striker in.Colburn_Claret wrote:Just read it on the transfer news on sky.
I'd laugh at it , but after they were linked with Crouch, Carrol et al, anything is possible.
They can't ever have watched him mind, because they think he is a target man

I think it's just a case of toys out of the pram because we lost and he has to go to work on a Monday morning. Life's so unfair and he wishes football was not contact like basketball. More like basket case.

Barnes plays as though it's a non contact sport, with the amount of diving he does.

Sam Vokes scored more league goals in one season for Burnley than Ashley Barnes ever has for us.
That's because Barnes is gash.

Barnes has scored 14 PL goals in 5,278 minutes of play, or a goal every 377 minutes.Sidney1st wrote:Meanwhile would you like to take stab in the dark as to who's scored the most PL goals...
Vokes has scored 13 PL goals in 3,342 minutes, or a goal every 257 minutes.
I know which one I prefer.
Re: Chelsea after our Ash
Yes, but Barnes has scored more than Jutkiewicz, and you claim Jutkiewicz was the better player. So it can't be all about numbers.UpTheBeehole wrote:Barnes has scored 14 PL goals in 5,278 minutes of play, or a goal every 377 minutes.

F-uck me it must be a real bind for you watching Burnley - why do you bother ?UpTheBeehole wrote:Sam Vokes scored more league goals in one season for Burnley than Ashley Barnes ever has for us.

Barnes cost the club £500k and has scored some crucial goals for us - he owes nobody at the club and has never let us down.
He's never been first choice striker at the club - and rarely been second choice. He's only playing now because of injuries. Describing one of our players as "gash" is pathetic when he has been as low maintenance and loyal as Barnes. If he had cost £20m with that goal scoring record then you could question it. But at £500k and all the other attributes he brings to the side on top of his goals I'm glad 99% of our fans aren't like you.

If Barnes signed for Chelsea, he would spend the next couple of years sitting on the bench (at best). Now to me, he seems like a lad eager to play not warm benches, so I would stay here if I were him.

Re: Chelsea after our Ash
He'd earn a lot more there though and that could swing it in their favour.
Re: Chelsea after our Ash
I'm surprised how few people seem to recognise his first touch.
One or two have mentioned it, and obviously his main attributes are how he keeps defenders busy and he ability to fall over.
But Ashley's first touch at times is absolutely first class, but finds himself on his own with little help.
