SORRY but female match commentators
Is it because I/we are so used to the male take on a game and their delivery that I find each and every woman`s voice on commentary SO grating????? It`s awful!!!!! To be honest most male commentators get on my wick but Jackie Oakley (who I enjoy on podcasts) and the Wigan vs West Ham female commentator just make it so difficult to watch/listen to the game. No doubting their knowledge is up there with the chaps but nails on blackboards...horrible to hear.

I think if they try to be as strident as most male commentators are it doesn't work as it sounds too forced. Just need to find a style that works - more Barry Davies than John Motson.

I would rather spend an evening with ablueclaret than listen to Jackie Oakley commentating on a game.

Re: SORRY but female match commentators
I think the art of commentary is not just what to say but more when to say it. It seems anyone involved in it currently receives renumeration by the word. Adam Gilchrist is a typical exponent of this but by no means is he on his own.

Whilst I think female interviewers can be top notch and bring a lot to football, as do female match officials. When they commentate they don’t seem to bring the atmosphere/excitement in their voice. And I have enough of wife droning on at home without having to listen to one on the television talking Sh!te

Re: SORRY but female match commentators
Some are ok and some aren't so no different to the guys.
The most annoying is hearing ''I'm sammi jolo' or whatever she's called at the end of travel news. Her voice is one that means I dont hear what she said before like it's all joined up and inconsequential and then you get that grate line at the end.

Re: SORRY but female match commentators
It's the tone and pitch of the voice that are the issue not the sex of the commentator, i agree entirely that a couple of the commentators (not BBC/Soccer Saturday staff) that happen to be women have voices that just don't suit the job they are employed to do, the lady who did the Wigan vs West Ham game yesterday has a voice that starts very high and at moments where there is a near miss or goal it leaves human hearing capabilities and can only be heard by dogs.
Jonathan Pearce and Alistair Mann are male culprits but the worst of the lot is the guy who did the club video for the Play Off Final in 1994, his voice was that bad i watched the video once and never got it out again, completely ruined.
The version of the goals on youtube with the Radio Lancashire commentary is 1000% better.

I don’t like female commentators at all. My fiancé who is female actually agrees with me on this, she can’t stand listening to them. However, I do really like female news anchors/hosts. I think Kelly Cates is fantastic on sky sports and speaks a lot of sense and is very knowledgeable.

That Vicky Sparks who did the wigan game yesterday is bloody awful with that high pitched voice.. volume off when she is on again..
Re: SORRY but female match commentators
Female commentators talk a whole lot of rubbish. Which means they fit in very well with the male commentators. Once of a day, Sky Sports had two sound channels, one with commentary and one with just the crowd noise - you could choose which to listen to. That facility was quickly removed, presumably because too many people were using it.
If they want TV commentary to be anything other than a detraction, they need firstly to remove the commentator's friend, because having two of them means they just want to have a chat; and secondly, educate the commentator that he doesn't need to keep talking. The picture is there - the commentator only needs to add to it, he doesn't need to describe what you can plainly see. If the two blokes behind you in the stand at the game were talking like that, you'd tell them to shut up for certain.
My mother is deaf and watches everything with subtitles, except football because the subtitles cover the action. She tells me to tell her if the commentators say anything interesting. I can literally go the whole 45 minutes without telling her anything.

I don’t mind the Soccer Saturday ones. I think there’s a women on there that’s actually quite good. Usually doing lower league games with a video link.
I’m not a fan of female full match commentary at all. It just doesn’t sound right.

I quite like Gabby Yorath presenting and especially like her interviewing and match punditry is fine like Alex Scott pitch side but yes the high pitch female commentator that suddenley bursts out of your screen in the middle of the championship program is as said higher up grating.

Re: SORRY but female match commentators
Okay:
Football is a man's game. I don't want female commentators, I don't want female officials and I don't like women's football. Some things are just not meant to be 'mixed'. Women have their things in all walks of life and that's good and men have theirs. This is really just pampering to the same people who use the phrase 'not acceptable' a lot. There is nothing wrong in keeping women (or men) out of certain aspects of life. Men don't force themselves on predominantly female sports and pastimes, why should they do it, or is it just because they can.
There you go, it's been said, I don't care what the response is or if people start to point the finger of accusation at me, let's face it, it's just what so many people think but are afraid to say.

Re: SORRY but female match commentators
It's a strange one. Commentators comment on stuff so for example my wife comments on a hell of a lot more stuff than me so surely that makes her by default a better commentator.
We work together and apply our strengths like yesterday for example I cleared the gutters and took a skim off the sticking hallway door and my wife made a fantastic family meal. If them roles were reversed the gutters and door would still need finishing along with the now added repair work to the Mrs hair and fingernails and tea would have been shite.
