Re: SORRY but female match commentators
I agree with every thing Goody1975 has posted.
Jonathan Pearce has a voice for Robot Wars, not football commentating.
There's one woman commentator on the BBC Football who sounds like she's 20 miles into a Marathon when talking.

Re: SORRY but female match commentators
First of all there are plenty of male commentators i don`t like.
As for female match commentators I am yet to here a single one I like.
I agree that there are some pretty decent and knowledgable female presenters in football - e.g. Kenny Daglish`s daughter.

Basketball can be very skilful if you are not 8 foot tall. Women's football is fine for those who want to watch it. I don't like it being forced on me as the BBC would wish. I prefer men commentating on the men's game.timshorts wrote:I'd rather play netball than basketball. There seems to be more skill in it.

"fiancé who is female" - I always thought is was spelt "fiancée" if the intended was female - and spelt "fiancé" if the intended was male.colne-claret wrote: My fiancé who is female actually agrees with me on this, she can’t stand listening to them.
Re commentators - I like the ones who are good at their job and know their stuff.
Re: SORRY but female match commentators
I've no objection to women in the game in any area - they can even play in the men's game if they're good enough. As far as I'm concerned, men's football is all about the game of football being played as well as it can be, regardless of age or gender. There are other, inferior, versions of the game (veterans, junior, women's, etc.) specially designed for people who for whatever reason can't be expected to be top line players. But at the top, let's have the best.
As for commentators, the standard is so appalling that a gibbon could do as well. Cardiff v Man City being a case in point - it's very easy to argue that City's offside goal shouldn't have been disallowed, but how any commentator could think that the ref's signal was to allow the goal? Or that Guardiola needed it explaining to him why it was disallowed? They are clueless.

They've tried female announcers on college football in the States. I can't stand it, and always turn the channel.
Re: SORRY but female match commentators
Commentary always better when they are saying Burnley are playing like Brazil and totally deserve the lead/result

Re: SORRY but female match commentators
The lady who commentated on the Wigan v West Ham game is absolutely dreadful. That’s not to say that women can’t make good commentators. As mentioned above Gabby Logan and Kelly Cates are good presenters and a couple of the Soccer Saturday reporters are good. I don’t see why some people have a problem with women in football.
Jonathan Pearce and John Motson are both diabolical.

I would like Bianca Westwood to be given more air time, I have grown to like her style, voice and of course her football knowledge. She would certainly be better on MOTD than many of the male dullards they drag on!

Re: SORRY but female match commentators
I didn't say they CAN'T I said I don't like it. A world of difference. What is 'knobish' about wanting to keep the sexes apart I some areas and if women want to play football then okay that's fine, but not get involved in the male side. It's like when they decided they where going to go to working men's clubs (places I never go to personally but as an example), some of these were men only and they started battering the doors down, metaphorically speaking, to get in just because the law said they could. Why were men suddenly denied the right to a club where only men were allowed as a bit of peace and quiet?Falcon wrote:You're fine to have an opinion.
But so am I, and I think you're a knob. Football might have been 'started' by blokes but who are you to say that ladies can't have any part in it.
I don't begrudge anyone the right to do anything and I have spent most of my adult life supporting equality in all it's forms but I also support the right of individuals or groups of people to have a right to exclusivity, and that includes my right to moan about women in football without being insulted by someone just because they have a different view.
I hate political correctness in all it's forms because it pretends to give people more choice but does so by taking away that choice from others.

Bianca Jackson
The one with the wobbly hip, or at least it appears that way because everytime she finishes her 1st sentence she begins to weave from side to side and back and forth as her voice becomes more and more shrill. It actually hurts my eyes (never mind my ears)
Either that or she like love eggs

And there's another one on Sky that irritates who's name escapes me, but I've nicknamed Chicken Woman, because every time she finishes a sentence she bobs her head forward in a pecking motion

So does this extend to all sports then? For instance, would you ban male commentators on women's tennis matches, women commentators on men's fencing, and do you have any other weirdly arbitrary distinctions on who can and can't commentate on footy? No Italians commentating on English football, no white people commentating on black players etc? Just seems really weird to me that you particularly would prefer to ban women from commentating on footy matches when presumably some of them are much better at it than your average bloke.

Re: SORRY but female match commentators
they're all sh1t. most of the male ones are as well, never kicked a ball in their lives and have no real understanding of the sport they're talking about.
basically, they should just clone barry davies before its too late and have him commentate on everything.

Re: SORRY but female match commentators
Not really, I don't have a problem with any of those things because in the main historically they have been 'mixed'. Foreign commentators of ANY gender I have no problem with. Football has been, until fairly recently, one of the last places where men were free from the ever growing invasion by women into male life (yes I know there have always been female supporters, I met my first serious girlfriend at Old Trafford in a league cup match many years ago) but it is one of the last male bastions and I wouldn't want those barriers to be broken down for the sake of that awful beast political correctness.Falcon wrote:So does this extend to all sports then? Am I old fashioned in that respect? Yes, I suppose I am.
Do I have anything against female equality per se? No I don't.
Do I believe that BOTH sexes should be able to do things to the exclusion of the other? Yes I do.
Freedom of choice is all very well as long as other people's choices are not limited by the freedom that others have. Women are now free to go to working men's clubs. Men no longer have the freedom to have a men only club. There are jobs that can be advertised legally as 'female only' but the opposite cannot be done. There are female only taxis, the opposite is not allowed.
I suppose the feminising of the world is what we are talking about here, not just football, and that is, in my view, a bad thing. There was a time when women were very much second class, and that was totally wrong, but the pendulum is swinging very much the opposite way now and if it is not checked white, able bodied, heterosexual males will be definitely disadvantaged. In the drive for equality for all (a good thing) we are in danger of destroying the rights of others (not good).

Re: SORRY but female match commentators
I agree with a lot of what you say but I do think it's a bit of a stretch to compare a male only working mens club to a job as a football commentator for which really there is no reason anyone can't do it should they have the skill and knowledge.houseboy wrote:Not really, I don't have a problem with any of those things because in the main historically they have been 'mixed'. I don't subscribe to the belief that white hetero males are going to become 2nd class citizens though. Nobody wants this apart from a few extremist feminists. Unfortunately those on the verges always shout loudest but speaking as an aforesaid straight white man I'm really not getting a sweat on about it.

Re: SORRY but female match commentators
You are right of course mate. I sometimes come across as some kind of right wing reactionary when in fact the complete opposite is true (I used to be a left wing reactionary). I am so in favour of everyone having the same opportunities and gender, race, religion, etc. shouldn't be any kind of bar, but every increase in someone's rights seems to take away the rights of someone else and I struggle to balance it all out. You have hit the nail firmly on the head when you talk about hard line feminists. Hard liners, and I include religious fanatics in this, don't want equality they want superiority. Hard line feminists seem to want to punish modern man (not a bad animal these days) for the ills of the past in a kind of 'it's our turn now' revenge and, as I said to a feminist friend many years ago, it's not my fault how women were treated in the past, why should men like me be punished?Falcon wrote:I agree with a lot of what you say but I do think it's a bit of a stretch to compare a male only working mens club to a job as a football commentator for which really there is no reason anyone can't do it should they have the skill and knowledge.

Like I said it's nothing to do with football really it's just a general concern I have. Maybe I've become less tolerant as I've got older.
Some things never change though, despite being the wrong side of 60 (just) I still hate Rovers with the same passion I did when I was 16 ha ha.
