Jamie Hoyland was great, was he?

Righto then

He may have been signed as a midfielder, but he played many games at Centre Half alongside Winstanley. At times it was akin to watching Laurel and Hardy.

EDIT: I've replied to the wrong quote, Michael Williams was the one Stan referred to as " Not lacking application, a trier, but he'll never win the crowd over "... As for the player pleading after a " Nightclub incident ", I've no idea who that was ... Apologies..

Was it not Steve Morgan that Stan said would never win the fans over ?

He played over 84 times for us and I vividly remember the Longside chanting 'Thank you very much for Jamie Hoyland thank you very much, thank you very very much' to Sheffield United when we played them.

Must of been terrible.

Almost as terrible as your grammar ;)

That was because he'd just scored against his old Club if memory serves, but he went downhill rapidly after that.

I remember on more than one occasion, him running down the tunnel when his number went up to be substituted. :(

He was painfully slow too.

No. It was definitely Michael Williams. It's all covered in Stan's autobiography.

Gud job I is on a footy message board and not doing an English exam then.

It's funny on this board how people turn to spelling mistakes or bad grammar when they can't convince others of their points of view.

I don't need to convince you or anyone else, but I'd bet that more people who had the "pleasure" of seeing Jamie Hoyland play would agree with me and not you. ;)

blatherwick and winstanley were alright for that level. howey was really crap though.

winstanley had a decent career for someone who wasn't that arsed about football.

It's funny how he thinks he could have been part of a successful team at Sunderland when in reality he was an integral part of a god awful team at Burnley. Sounds like he's deluded. If he was that good Sunderland wouldn't have let him go, pretty simple really.

Winstanley was far from the worst centre half we've had. Peter Zelam, Heggerty, Gallagher (though despite being crocked he wasn't the worst despite the bile he got) to name three. Winstanley was prone to mistakes, he also quite often saved his own disaster by sheer will power to get back wih a last ditch tackle.

Neither do I remember Winstanley being one of those "sacked" but he may of been.
The crier who missed the curfew was as I remember Nark Ford.

Howey was absolute tripe. Obviously trying to be controversial to gain interest in his book. Should be added the 'P' list.

I remember a terrible night at Wycombe in which I believe Hoyland bizarrely handballed in the box to concede a penalty. Think we lost 5-0 or there abouts. Pretty sure it was Hoyland.

I was in a hospitality box courtesy of work on 13th December '97 when we were on the end of a 2 nil defeat to wigan at the turf during waddles reign. After the game he and a few of the 'players' came in, including lee howey and proceeded to order pints from the bar, laughing out loud without a care in the world. Most of the Burnley fans there were not amused and they all started giving a bit of grief to waddle but it was like water off a ducks back, pun intended  , and they just carried on supping.

We don't know were born nowadays :)

The majority of players in that squad were mostly always down town on a Saturday night after usually getting beat!
