Tactics so disappointing
Re: Tactics so disappointing
Tempo is the word we are all looking for. First half we were slow, allowing Southampton players to get into position. Second half we upped the tempo and looked much better.

Re: Tactics so disappointing
In the car before the game I suggested we couldn't pick a more defensive team and we would sneat a 1-0 win. Nearly job done for Dyche but against a crap team we should of slaughtered them.
But it's not Dyche's way and we shouldn't expect attacking play.

Re: Tactics so disappointing
I don't even know where to start with that I'm afraid. All well and good if you are prepared to accept that a 10 game (or more) winless run is included in what you call the bigger picture.
If we start next season on our current form, and are bottom after 12 games, will you still be as happy?
You start off by assuming I'm happy with the way we are playing at the moment (I'm not, but I'm also well aware that we are missing crucial players and having no luck at all)
Then you take a mythical situation, decide to make it as bad as it could possibly be and then ask me if I'm happy?
Yeah, I am actually, because in the "bigger picture" we will start next season in the premier league.
Thats the "bigger picture" that you can't see.
Re: Tactics so disappointing
At the start of next season we’ll have Defour & Brady back plus some new signings. A small squad is always going to suffer when injuries hit.
As a side issue, the sense of entitlement on this thread is staggering, even for the usual suspects.
We missed a trick yesterday, but **** happens.
People calling him Yawn Dyche etc, just **** off and go and do something else with your time. I’ll continue to support my team.

Re: Tactics so disappointing
Never totally safe at 1-0 but with sun beaming down, and it looking like Saints wouldn’t have scored if we’d played all weekend there was no need to change it. What I don’t get is that we rarely start a match with any urgency, we should/could have been out of sight by half time.
We should go out to bury The Toffees next week, and that would stop all the winging.

Re: Tactics so disappointing
The disappointment for me isn't the results its the performances, no tempo, no fluidity, no passing just defensive negative hoofball... we're going to drop points, that isn't the issue but at least drop points trying to win and getting at teams.

Re: Tactics so disappointing
I've been really disappointed with our tactics as well.
We are stuck in our own success.
The likes of Huddersfield and Brighton are in situations where they have to chuck the kitchen sink at games. A draw is not enough.
Burnley, sadly in some ways, are in a good position where a draw isn't the end of the world, so we are happy to hang in there and wait for something to break. Unfortunately nothing has for a long time.
Maybe SD should tell them to go out with a mindset of being in a relegation fight. We'd see a completely different game.

Re: Tactics so disappointing
At the start of the season we were playing some great football, the match against Arsenal springs to mind, but that was when we had Defour. Losing his football brain has really hurt us.
The other issue is that due to the lack of pace upfront the “through ball “ option isn’t there, so we have to get our goals from a cross or the quick knock down option.
Yesterday was dull but now is all about getting the Win which we looked like getting (we can blame the ref, but replays showed our goal was handball) and if we had we can take the pragmatic view of results over performance.
The worrying thing about yesterday was Wood’s and Nkoudou body language at the end, they were warming up for ages and their faces when they didn’t get on told everything.
A sub can handle not getting on when they can see the players on the pitch performing and keeping them out but yesterday was not one of them, Barnes’s goal masked his performance and I lost count of the number of times Lennon got tackled cutting back.
Now it’s all about 40 points and I would like to think that once achieved Dyche can “experiment” a little more.

I think Wood and GK had been told they were coming on prior to our goal, so you could understand their disappointment.
Their centre backs were their biggest weakness so it would have made sense to make those subs anyway

Re: Tactics so disappointing
Ironic that some on here moan about ‘hoofball’ after a match where SD picked a team designed to play more of a possession game, rather than the more direct line-up deployed against City. Granted there were one or two fairly agricultural clearances from the back but playing Westwood was clearly an attempt to retain position and control the game in the midfield area, which succeeded to a degree. We did put together some decent passing moves yesterday.
SD’s tactics came within a nat’s chuff of instigating a 1-0 win, which after a barren run would have delighted everybody. If anything, we were guilty of inviting them on for the last 10 mins, their introduction of Sims was the spark I thought, he gave them some thrust and we were tiring. I do wonder if we’d made a positive substitution soon after our goal, we’d have possibly buried them, Sean definitely took a cautious approach, so’ton looked vulnerable at the back and if we’d introduced Vokes and pild pressure into their box, I think they might have folded. In the end doing nothing proved to be a riskier strategy, and the deserved equaliser didn’t surprise me in the slightest. The bizarre claim for a penalty, a foul, and the referees accidental intervention was all flannel, a bit of a distraction to our own inadequacies on the day. Hope we really go for it against Everton next week, they’re not good away from home at present.

I'm not that disappointed with the bigger picture but think some people are leaving certain bits out. We certainly don't want to get sucked into a mind-set where not winning becomes totally acceptable.

Is that before Hendrick and JBG provided the assist and pre assist for our goal?Murger wrote:Hendrick and JBG should have been pulled for GKN and Vokes/Wood.

Re: Tactics so disappointing
Take the spine out of most teams and they will struggle. We have lost influential players and had to adjust accordingly. We all know we aren't playing very well at the moment but you also have to realise we can't play like we were earlier on in the season. Let's be thankful at the fantastic start to the season we had or else we may have been well and truly in the shite!

That's why I couldn't fathom not bringing wood or vokes on?

it's not the tactics that are disappointing it's the lack of signings to up the required quality that has hindered us, budget boys.

But ain't we little old burnley?? Poorest club in the league etc etc
Re: Tactics so disappointing
Once Tarky and Wood are back in the team I think we'll be a much better side.
Re: Tactics so disappointing
We had players on the bench to make a difference. We had 2 strikers and a pacy winger. All those saying there's no match changing subs available, need to take their entire body out of Dyches arse.

If Sean Dyche ****** on you you'd thank him. Weirdo.Tall Paul wrote:You must have quoted the wrong post of mine then, because the one you did quote bore no relevance to your ridiculous comment.
I mentioned that these are the same tactics that got us up to fourth once, to illustrate that nobody was complaining about them when we had a fully fit squad, were getting the rub of the green and results were going our way.
As for your final comment, whether I go to the games isn't relevant or any of your business, but I've been to plenty this season and will be there next week.
Nobody was complaining? I think they were. Like I said if we got relegated you'd still be bleating on about how he got us to fourth once.
