A white ball.
Sometimes when you looked at it on the centre spot waiting to kick off it was ridiculously white, like a balloon.

Ploughed fields of pitches.
Re: Things you don't see in football anymore
60s era airline-style shoulder bags with club's name.
Mine had "Burnley, 22 years in first division" at a time when there were 22 teams in the first division. And guess what: by the end of that season Burnley were no longer one of them and the bag fell to bits.

Ball boy appreciation, remember when the ball boys used to come on the Turf stand in a circle, get a round of applause and then go to their positions.

Yes! The numbers 1 to 11 and one sub (don't think the sub had a number!).
Military bands marching on the pitch before kick off and at half time.
Letters that later told you the half time scores (didn't we have tannoys?).
Songs you could keep up with, and how many of them were related to WW2 tunes?
Police that were older than you and didn't mind giving you a belting.
Very rarely rolled around on the floor after a tackle, it was too muddy!
In fact anyone rolling around nowadays should automatically not get a free kick.
If you are seriously injured you tend to lie still.
On the plus side:
Police hats being kicked/thrown around.
Darts in people's heads.

Interestingly, I always thought exactly the same when the ball was orange and sat on the centre spot, especially on bright, sunny afternoons.CharlieinNewMexico wrote:A white ball.

Orange balls on snow.
Guys using rolled up newspapers for a toilet.
Rattles (I hardly remember them actually).
Proper full-on tackles.
Playing in rain so bad the spray was like the M6 on a bad day.
Oxo.
Bovril.
Happy Rovers fans.

Re: Things you don't see in football anymore
Goalkeepers having only a few seconds to get rid of the ball once they pick it up.
Goalkeepers having to take a goal kick from the same side of the goal that the ball went out.
'Cheerleaders'
Leaving 2 men 'up' when defending a corner
Chicco (thank God)

Not just me then screaming foul throw at almost every match. Although, did anyone see the Spurs lad (Aurier I think) who couldn't manage to take a throw against Palace t'other week? Must have got pulled up for it at least three times!icu81b4 wrote:Goalie's socks that match the rest of the team,

Random old blokes in the dugout.
Less than a thousand people in the dugout.
A dugout that was just an old bench and not car seats.
