The song all the ground would sing!

Post by IanMcL » Sun Apr 15, 2018 3:59 pm

We often have lots goof good offerings but none materialise.

However, the song which all of Turf Moor sang was Swing Low Sweet Marriott, when Andy Marriott did his stuff.

He is long gone. However, we could sing:
Swing Low, we are the Burnley, coming for to carry you home x2

Thoughts?

Given our current elevated position it would be appropriate to go back to singing When Your Smiling. Always used to enjoy that. If we can't smile now, when can we?

To the tune of the monkees - I'm a believer

Then I saw them play, now I'm a believer
Not a trace of doubt in my mind.
I'm in love, I'm a believer!
I couldn't leave here if I tried.

The Burnley, The Burnley...........

We should really be resurecting "COME ON YOU CLARETS"
It sounded absolutely awesome all through the late 60s and right through to about 5 or 6 years ago when it started to drop off. I think most off the stadium will know the words.

The best songs are ones which use the original words all the way through. Like when Stoke sing "Delilah" and when Hibs sing "Sunshine on Leith". Corrupting songs can make them sound a bit naff and cheesy. I'm all for "When You're Smiling" as mentioned above. The Longside used to do a great rendition with proper words all the way through back in the 70's and it was a good 'un!
